Lanai view of our very traditional beach cottage, so Hawaiian!! Faces Ocean.
Location: Private Homes, Central Kihei, Kihei, South Maui, Maui, Hawaii, USA (1 short block from Kihei Town, easy walking distance)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Very Private, Sandy Beach, Hawaiian Beachfront Home.
Private home, approximately 75 yards across spacious lawn with palm trees to a low dune and sandy beach. The dune area is a regular destination for turtles to come ashore and lay their eggs.
The house is adjacent to a 4-bedroom house also available for rent (see VRBO Listing No. 73607). Quiet residential area, with a hand-cut lava-rock wall ensuring privacy, but only a short walk to a shopping and restaurants.
This home was built on one level and made of redwood, with beamed ceilings and large windows. A large lanai faces toward the beach. A grounds keeper lives on-site.
The yard contains lemon and banana trees and other tropical plants. The large lawn area between the house and the beach (shared with the adjacent house) is State land. The beautiful property has rows of palm trees and a banyan tree (great for shade), that is over a hundred years old.
The beach is on a shallow lagoon with a fringing reef, where locals fish and gather seaweed in the tidepools. Beyond the lagoon is the open water, facing west to beautiful sunsets. Whales can sometimes be seen and heard beyond the reef during the whale season. To the northwest the West Maui Mountains dominate.
See VRBO Listing No. 73607 for photos of the exterior and beach.

Just a short walk across the lawn area and you are on an uncrowded beach. Usually, just local people use this area for great fishing, windsurfing, paddling, sunbathing with very shallow water, great for the children. You have the ability to rent a 4 bedroom, 2-1/2 bathroom home next door on the same property, great for large family gathering. Both homes rented together can sleep up to 12 guests (16, with children). Both homes also have an IPOD player. Wonderful property for making some very special memories. Children especially love this property. Adults love it, too!

We had a wonderful experience staying at this home. The house itself was beautiful. There is a beautiful and large back yard for this kids to play in. The ocean is but a minute walk. The house is in a great location to explore the rest of the island; close to aiport and other beaches. I recommend it highly

In all honesty, Hawaii would not have been our first choice for a vacation, but we made it our destination as we came to attend a family member's wedding. What happened was most unusual for us - we absolutely shed all our everyday stresses and relaxed. Maybe it was the smell of the sea air, the balmy breezes, the sound of the surf...or all of those things combined...but the bliss of actually sitting on the lovely patio without the pull of some responsibility was overwhelmingly soothing. As California natives the beach is not unique to us, but this beach kept calling us back. We oohed and aahed at the whales, popping up and spouting water out their blow holes and doing all the other things those massive creatures can do as they swim along. Also, as we walked down the shoreline, we spoke with local women gathering seaweed to pickle it and saw a group of grade school students learning about the ocean first hand. There was no hustle and bustle - just take it as it comes pleasure. We did leave the property to go to the Surfing Goat Dairy tour and recommend you visit the dairy, buy the cheese but forget the $10 per person ten minute tour. We rented Harley's for a day and that was terrific too, but nothing was as special as just enjoying the home, its cozy relaxing environment and its nearly private beach. Some of the things we discovered at the home that we didn't really pick-up on from the description was the fact that the extra sleeping area in the living room is not a futon or a fold out sofa. Instead it is a real queen size mattress that you pull out from a cabinet - it was extremely comfortable. Also, the house has all sorts of chairs, boogie boards, and even beach towels. Our recommendations for when you stay there are: (1) be sure and eat at Stella Blue's at least once and (2) go to the grocery store called "Times" something, I wish I could remember the name better but it has a vast selection of fish & meat and the produce is terrific. (It's within walking distance and almost directly across the street from Food Land.) (3) Bring water shoes if you have them because the seaweed feels creepy under your feet. Well I am going to close this review now, because if I keep thinking about the property and all the pleasurable times we had, I am just gonna find myself booking another vacation there.

Perfect little home for a small family with children of any age to enjoy all that Maui has to offer. The house is located on a great property with a large Banyan Tree in front of it, and several large Palms swaying in the tropical breeze. We even picked some fresh Mangos from the tree adjacent to the home. The beach is located right in front of the property and is great for a nice long stroll and a quick dip to cool off. Within walking distance to Longs drugs, Powerhouse Gym, Times Market and the rest of the Azeka Shopping plaza, and a quick 2 min drive to the Safeway and another large shopping plaza just up the hill. South Maui's best beaches are 5-10 min drive from the house, and Lahaina is not far either. So it is centrally located in order to explore the entire Island. On another note, the bbq had a faulty lid and with one quick call to the owner it was replaced with a brand new grill the next day. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

We travel all the way from Maine to stay in this wonderful beachfront home! We stayed in this home about a year ago and plan to stay in it again this winter. The location is perfect. The home is right on the beach and set away from the main road but within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The home was very clean and cozy with plenty of Hawaiian charm and outdoor space for grilling. If you have a larger group, there is another home next door owned by the same owner that can be rented along with this property. Great hotel alternative! If you are looking for a more intimate and authentic experience while in Maui, I suggest staying at this home.
