Large lake front house perfect for family vacation, family reunion, or week long vacation with friends. Relax, renew and play in a unique vacation spot. Fantastic lake front yard (3/4 acre+)with 150 feet of fantastic lakefront with shared dock and porch with beautiful views of Lake Chautauqua. Located next to Chautauqua Institution (Packard Manor). Five minute drive to Chautauqua main gate, 10 minute walk to Elm gate.
There are five bedrooms (two rooms are interconnected) and three bathrooms, plus additional sleeping in finished attic. Broadband Wi-Fi and cable TV included. Very kid friendly, 3/4 acre lot with lots of grass for games. Pets permitted upon request and depending on rental schedule (adtl cost). The house is a 90 year old original farmhouse.
Rental includes shared dock and use of dinghy and 1 buoy. Bring your own powerboat, sailboat, kayaks, etc. or rent from marinas around the lake.
Wonderful for all seasons. May, September and October are especially nice. Extensive cultural (opera, theater, symphony, live music, historic open air amphitheater, lectures, classes for all ages) and recreational (boating, fishing, cycling, birding, golf, tennis, antiquing, wineries) activities around the lake. We have family members in several locations of northeastern Ohio and one family group in Connecticut. The location of this home in Mayville, NY has provided us an excellent location for an extended family "live-in" each year for the past three years and we are already committed for 2013. The home is in an idyllic setting on the shore of Lake Chautauqua, and it truly feels like home. The five-plus bedrooms and three baths very comfortably provide private space for our individual family units which total 9 adults and 3 kids. We have found no other arrangement that has provided the same opportunity to spend an extended weekend together and enjoy our own home cooking. The neighboring countryside, old cemetery, shops, wineries provide many opportunities for amusement, hiking, bike riding, wine tasting, etc. I cannot say enough positive about this home which has brought our extended family closer together each year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I do want to say how much we enjoyed staying there last summer. It's a classic old house with lots of room for everybody. It was a perfect week for us. Some of the things we especially appreciated were: (1) the large wonderful porch which seemed to always have enough breeze to ward off the insects; (2) the large and well maintained property grounds; (3) having WiFi connection for our use; (4) the great tire swing - our teenagers spent many, many hours playing on it; (5) the proximity of the location next to the Chautauqua Institution; (6) the professional way all the transactions were handled We would come back in a heartbeat if (and when) we could work it out with our families.Did you find this review helpful? Our house at Chautauqua is a special gathering place for families. We are a long time Chautauqua family that has been coming to Chautuaqua since the 1920s and we have owned this house since 1965.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Staying at our house provides the best of both worlds - you have a large lake front home with spectacular views, beachfront and a dock. We are the closest house to the Institution which can easily be accessed by foot, car or boat. However you do not have any of the cost or parking issues associated with staying in the Institution.
