We wanted to get away from our busy lives and enjoy some silence, sun, water, and nature. We got this in spades. The house is wonderfully surrounded by trees, giving you the ultimate in privacy. While we were there, virtually no one was out on the lake, so we felt we had it all to ourselves to kayak and swim. Moreover, this contributed to the quiet we craved. The house itself is wonderful: amazingly equipped with everything you need to settle in for the week, beautifully decorated, and immaculate. We definitely felt like "guests" rather than just "renters." There's a lot of great hiking/mountain biking/running areas close by and a trip to nearbye Easport avails some amazing seafood, whale watching (which was awesome), and street shops. Steve and Pat were wonderfully communicative and accommodating. This place is a gem. I'm sure we'll be back.

The house was exactly as promised. Kitchen was surprisingly well-equipped for a rental and the book selection is great. There is good hiking nearby in the Refuge. The trip over to Campobello Island is really easy and worthwhile. We also took a drive along the Bay of Fundy in Canada. Owners were helpful and responsive, including mailing me a jacket I'd left behind.

This is a beautifully isolated cabin on the shore of Lake Meddybemps just minutes from Canada and a short drive to Bar Harbor or Campobello. Can't begin to describe the beauty and serenity of the lake and surrounding area. House is very pleasantly furnished and nicely appointed with most of the things you might think of (or not think of!). The lake was pleasantly warm even given the cooler nights (mid-50's for our trip). Size is good for 4 adults, although single bath (shower is on well, so pressure was only disappointing aspect of the property. The owners are great, and easy to work with. Very forthcoming with information and prompt in all communications. Great little corner of the world up here!

My wife and I stayed here in July 2010. We loved it. The house is stylish and tasteful for a rental, with everything very clean and well-maintained. The architecture is airy and bright, and the lakeside location is very appealing. We couldn't have been happier with it.

Owner response: Thanks Carrie and Peter! We're so glad you liked it. Please come back any time!

My husband was pleasantly surprised by how cosy the cottage appeared to be when we first arrived. He immediately wanted to extend his stay! Ideal location on Lake Meddybemps. We loved the calm kayaking and excellent fishing. Water nice and clear. Roads slight bumpy but not remote as you might expect. Easy to find. We definitely will want to come back. Owners friendly and accessible:) Lovely, lovely cottage....!

Thank you Steve & Patricia What a great stay we had, The house is beautiful and impeccably maintained. The calm peaceful setting is second to none. We hiked and geo'cached the area and it's the best winter finds we've had. We can't wait to return this summer The six separate sighting of deer in the area still have my wife ecstatic. The walks on and around the lake were wonderful we can only imagine how grand in will look in the other seasons. You know what they say about people who are lucky enough to live by the water !..........We'll their lucky enough ! Dana & Kelly

We had a wonderful time on our winter vacation at Pikku Suomi! The house was very clean and comfortable and the view of the frozen Meddybemps Lake was beautiful. Gazing up at the stars over the lake at night was one of our favorite things to do. We went snowshoeing on the lake and also at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge nearby. The peace and quiet were exactly what we needed to break away from city life. The nearby town of Calais had everything we needed to stock the pantry as well as a few good restaurants to dine out. We were also close enough to take day trips to Bar Harbor, Eastport and Lubec. There were a few shops open in the off season, but the scenery and coastal drives were well worth the trip. Jack Russell's Steak House & Brewery in Bar Harbor is definitely recommended!! We would love to return again someday to Pikku Suomi. It has been one of our most scenic vacations by far! Hope to see you again! Heather and Sid (January 2010) Philadelphia, PA/Los Angeles, CA

Pikku Suomi is a beautiful, clean, recently built and well appointed cabin. We enjoyed a very relaxing stay and especially enjoyed being right on Meddybemps Lake. The weather was a nice break from the Texas heat! Stephen and Patricia were great to work with - when we return to Maine, we definitely want to stay at Pikku Suomi again.

I would like to take the time to thank Pat & Steve for sharing their home on Meddybemps Lake. We were there for two weeks in August and a week in September of 2008.. I spent all my summers on the lake as a child so for me it was incredible to be able to be return and experience the lake as we near retirement. We found the home to be perfect. It was clean and well maintained. We found the kitchen well stocked, dining area and living room were set up for comfort and conversation, bedrooms comfy, nice linens and the deck had lots of seating. The outside is nicely landscaped. Having a dock made it perfect for sitting and kayaking. My brother had loaned us his fishing boat so we were able to explore the lake. A word of caution if you are new to the area check with the locals as the lake has many hidden rocks. The house works well for adults, babies or older teenages but we wouldn't reccomend for young children as there is no real beach area for them to play although if you have a boat you may go to the ridge which has a terrific beach for children. We found the neighbors friendly and quiet. My sister-in-law and I took a walk on the nature trail. It is a great hike but remember to wear insect repellent, hiking boots and jeans to keep the mosquitos at bay. We live out in Washington but plan to stay again. We found Pat and Steve great to work with. They respond quickly to any questions or concerns.

My wife and I had a great week at your home. It was refreshing to walk into a home that was as clean and well kept as our own. The lake was thoroughly enjoyed by us and our dog. She swam in the lake every day. The fishing was plentiful and and the views were inspiring. Thanks again for sharing your home with us!!
