After 2 days of strenuous hikes in Olympic National Park, we looked forward to our evenings at Compass Rose House. The quality of the house and its grounds exceeded our expectations. Most vacation rental homes only offer the bare essentials in cookware and utensils; however, the Compass Rose is fully stocked. The beds were also very comfortable, and there are lots of books, including hiking guides which proved to be helpful. The location of the house is prime for access to the alpine hikes of the park as well as to grocery stores and gas stations to stock up. One important thing to note is that the stairs/ladder to the upper loft is quite steep and requires that its occupant be in good physical condition; however, our party consisted of three people in good shape so this was not a problem for us. Our only wish was that we had more time on our trip to enjoy the house, the grounds, and all of the amenities!!! Thank you Suzann for providing such a wonderful accommodation, we hope to come back one day soon.

I had high hopes for this property based on all the reviews and it greatly exceeded my expectations. As promised the property is located on a large parcel of land with magnificent views of the Olympic Mountains. The house was immaculate and a wonderful spot to celebrate our anniversary. It was conveniently located 10 mins from both Port Angeles & Sequim, both locales offering wonderful restaurant options. If you wanted to cook the rental property had absolutely everything needed to do. Great base for daily trips to ONP as others have mentioned. Suzann was wonderful to work with and we would definitely recommend this property to our closest friends and family.

The photos barely do this home-away-from home justice. Peaceful. Serene. Well appointed. Perhaps the nicest place we have ever stayed. The owners are kind and accommodating. The kitchen is fully stocked. The view is unsurpassed. Everything you need is here - even a washer and dryer (which really makes the trip home easier.) We hope to return to the beauty of Olympic and the Compass Rose.

This is without a doubt our greatest find on VRBO! We travel extensively and this is definitely the cleanest, most well appointed and well maintained property we've visited. The setting is ideal..... quiet and serene. The view of the mountains is breathtaking! The fresh eggs from the chicken house was a nice treat. The icing on the cake is having such graceful hosts that live relatively close by. Very kind and conscientious people. We couldn't recommend this VRBO more strongly!

Our family had a wonderful stay at this beautiful cabin! The cabin itself is small but spacious, with an open concept that makes it feel much bigger. It has the log cabin feeling, but is only a few years old and has all the modern furnishings you could want. The cabin was very clean when we arrived, and we had plenty of towels, bed linens, etc. There is one bathroom, but it is huge! And there is a washer/dryer, which was a great bonus. We absolutely loved the natural light through all the windows in this cabin, the huge deck (with dining table and hot tub!), and also the fire pit with logs to sit on around it. And the view of the mountains -- incredible!!! One night we grilled out, ate at the table outside, and then roasted marshmallows over the fire to make s'mores. A perfect evening! The owners were nearby and answered our every call and question -- a big thank you goes out to Suzann and Martin. We appreciated their availability and their willingness to meet our every need. The cabin feels remote, but is only about 10 minutes from both Port Angeles and Sequim. It was a perfect jumping off point for our adventures in Olympic National Park and the surrounding areas. The only thing we want to mention as a heads up to future tenants -- there is a ladder (very steep steps) to the loft sleeping area. It is pretty much impossible to carry heavy luggage up there, and it may not be safe for children and/or elderly people to climb up it. The master bedroom and the bathroom are both on the first level, so those who can't make the climb still have options.

We escaped the ridiculous NC summer heat to visit this amazing, natural setting in the Pacific northwest. The home is located on a large piece of property so it offers peace and quiet and the chance to truly relax. When we first arrived, there were some clouds to the south. In the late afternoon, the clouds dissipated and the views of the snow-capped Olympics was awe-inspiring. It's easy to just relax and stare at the mountains and lose track of time. That is, until you remember that there are so many things to see and do just a short drive away. Olympic National Park has such natural diversity that it's hard to decide where to spend your time. We explored the nature trail in the rain forest, walked the beach with numerous sea stacks and harbor seals to observe, played in the snow on Hurricane Ridge, and hiked to the top of Pyramid Peak overlooking beautiful Lake Crescent. And after every adventure, it was such a pleasure returning to the Compass Rose House. The home is so comfortable and well-equipped. We cooked breakfast and dinner there every day and enjoyed eating on the deck with the black-tailed deer grazing close by. The crisp weather only made it that much easier to gather around a cozy campfire or jump into the hot tub for immediate warmth. What a fantastic place to stay in a gorgeous, spectacular setting.

Our last stop on our 3 week tour of the Northwest, and it was superb! The house is exquisite, well designed and equipped for a chef!! Loved having sharp knives,an espresso maker and a great kitchen! The beds were very comfortable, towels thick, furnishings top notch, the setting idyllic, but the view from the hot tub is beyond belief with it's views of the snow topped mountains! There was a plate of cookies waiting for us on arrival and we followed the newly mowed trail to the pond and the blossoming lupines. We did leave long enough to journey to Hurricane Ridge and were awed as the clouds parted and we got the panoramic view. The roadside bear was frosting on this cake! Highly recommend this listing and the other on the property!

My wife and I have been together for more than 29 years and have been married for 22 of them. To celebrate this anniversary we rented the Compass Rose House for a three day weekend. I wish we had done these years ago, I can’t imagine any place any better. The Compass Rose house is close to perfect. The house is beautiful, in fantastic condition and has everything you could need. We didn’t see anyone else while we were there, which is another thing we were looking for. We looked at other places before making our selection; there was nothing in the area that compares to Compass Rose. We will be reserving it for next year’s anniversary soon. It’s fantastic.

Loved our stay. Went and took a hike to the Olympic Hot Springs--highly recommend! Had a "pool" all to ourselves. The boys enjoyed their little "cove" (in the Compass Rose House upstairs) and making s'mores by the fire. The hot tub with the view and later the stars will be a favorite memory. Thank you for the cookies and the extra touches. You have a beautiful place and we'll be recommending your idyllic hideaway. Hope to be back in the future.
Owner response:You were one of the most considerate and respectful families we have ever had. We appreciate your comments because it reaffirms that we are indeed creating enjoyable, comfortable, nature-oriented homes. We would gladly welcome you back.

We feel blessed to experience this place a second time. The Compass Rose and the hospitality of it owners sit at the top of our list for vacation get sways. In a world with fast pace change and a volume control with no end in sight, we feel great comfort and peace knowing that there are places of beauty and tranquility such as this

My wife and I wanted a quiet get away for Christmas, so we looked into a vacation rental near Port Angeles. I ran across Suzann's and Martin's listing on VRBO and thought it looked nice. To be honest the pictures of the Compass Rose cabin do not do justice! The Cabin is beautiful, the property it sits on is spectacular, and it is quiet! The Compass Rose cabin is well stocked with dishes and cooking ware, the radiated heat floors are amazing and the fire place makes it absolutely cozy. Fishing in Lupine pond, though not successful, was relaxing and enjoyable and there are some big fish in there! The view from the hot tub is grand and makes for a very relaxing afternoon. The cabins are in a quiet area, but only a short drive from everything you could want, including great hiking, surfing and the amenities of Port Angeles and Sequim. I really can't say enough good things about our time and Suzann and Martin are both friendly, delightful people. It is certainly the hope of both my wife and I that we get to return and enjoy another get away at one of Martin and Suzann's cabins.

The cabin is absolutely beautiful and the views are second to none. We loved this quiet, quaint, and comfortable little cabin because it offered a serene sense of relaxation that the pictures can’t show. It’s in close proximity to great restaurants, some of the best parks in the world, and interesting shops. We look forward to returning as soon as possible.

If you spend most of your life in a big city, as we do (Las Vegas), then what is it worth to you to wake up in the morning, walk out the door onto dew-moistened grass, listen to absolute silence, lift up your head and look at the Olympic mountains across dark forests and bright green meadows? What is it worth to look across the yard at dinner time and watch a couple of deer sauntering into the woods? This cabin is spacious, clean, and well maintained. It has a high-speed internet connection and a huge number of TV channels (although if you spend most of your time indoors at this place then you're missing the whole point!) The owners left us a loaf of delicious sweet bread of some kind, and a jar of fresh blueberries. Everything was wonderful, and I highly recommend this place.

What a wonderful place! The pictures on this website do not do it justice. We were awed the moment we drove up. Awed even more as we entered the house. Tucked away in a quiet place. Surrounded by green. Beautiful sunsets to watch. Excellent star gazing. A place to roam. Deer coming to visit at dusk. Clean. Comfy livingroom. Well equiped kitchen. Comfy bedrooms. Great outdoor hottub for soaking after a long hike. Big windows! Sequim and Port Angeles are close by for groceries, shopping, and dining out. Good location for many areas of the Park. Owners are very nice and professional, and close by if you need to call them for something. We have rented several houses in the northwest during our travels, and the Compass Rose House is truly a charm. We would definitely stay here again when visiting this area in the future.
