This spot was serene and beautiful with a large glass window overlooking the water. We had fun hiking and canoeing and there were plenty of games for the kids. We never felt crowded and we loved that there was enough room for all of us to eat at the same table.Recommended for: Families with young children.

This is absolutely the most beautiful grounds we have ever seen.......and so close to home. The private lake is breathtaking. Sitting by the fire at night, and listening to the water flowing over the damn is the perfect way to end an evening. It's a little bit of Heaven. Julie, the manager could not have been more accommodating, thoughtful, and helpful. Julie, just want to THANK YOU again for being so kind. Our party included 8 adults, and everyone felt exactly the same. It was very hard to leave, and return to reality. We will be returning, sooner than later. By the way, don't forget your fishing pole............Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We had our annual "Girls Retreat" at Blue Heron Farm in September 2009 and found the home to be better than advertised so much so that we are returning in September 2010. The owner was very accomodating - letting us have an extra day. The home is beautifully appointed, comfortable and there is a wall of books and videos (not that you need them). The beds are clean and comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped and lacks nothing. A couple of us played golf at a nearby course, a couple others shopped and the remainder didn't leave the property. The deck is large and shaded and overlooks the lake where we spent a lot of time canoeing. We didn't want to leave.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

This was a great location for getting our adult children and grandchildren together. What a perfectly charming place. From the moment we walked into the house, I felt as though I had come home. This home was built with comfort and ease in mind. The farm does not have the sterile quality of most rentals. It is truly a well loved and enjoyed home. This was our 7th rental through VRBO and by far the best. The house is beautifully stocked with everything you could possible need. Everything in the kitchen was of the best quality and all appliances were like new. There was always plenty of hot water. There was nothing lacking. The farm is very private, so it was nice to know that the caretaker and his wife were on the property. We did not see them while we were there, but we knew that if there was a problem, we could go to them. While I was content to enjoy the deck with a book, the others found the location convenient to the beaches of Lake Erie, Ohio Amish Country, Cleveland's great Science Center, and even a day at Cedar Point Amusement Park.Local shopping and restaurants were very convenient. Overall, if you are looking for a place of peace and solitude, Blue Heron Farm is the answer. Awake to the birds and go to sleep with the frogs. Those are the only noises you will hear. During the day, swim and fish in the lake and take a canoe to the far reaches of the lake.It is quite expansive and great place to observe the wildlife on the shore. In the evening pick a salad from the garden and have a long leasurely meal on the deck - overlooking the lake. All in all - a perect family vacation. We hated to leave..Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This was our 7th annual getaway, going somewhere different every year. The worst ever. Spiders and spider webs everywhere, inside and out. Ants crawling all over the kitchen counter area. Caretaker placed baits around, but ants remained the entire weekend. Bicycles were locked in a garage and never available. Second floor, shower floor is dirty and worn badly. Heard gun shots all weekend. Fishing was just OK. Lake is very shallow (18-24 inches) in most places. Stairs down to the dock have a loose tread, (3rd or 4th from the bottom) causing me to fall while descending to the dock. There are other people on the property. It is semi-private, not private. No activities in walking distance. We would not return there or recommend it for anyone.Recommended for: Sightseeing.
Owner response: In the four years and over 100 rentals, we have not had a bad review. The farm provides quality lodgings in a country setting, that yes, does have some bugs (mostly outside). We have a 24 hour caretaker for issues that may arise including ants, lock outs, firewood needs, directions, etc. We also provide phone numbers for all persons involved, caretaker, manager and owner. During this stay not one phone call was received nor was anything said to the caretaker whom they saw several times. We are very puzzled by this group as we heard nothing until reading this review. The farm management makes sure that all guests are comfortable and well cared for and is committed to correcting any issues that come up. . We truly believe that this man would not be happy no matter what we provided and had we known that he was afraid of spiders, we would have mentioned it before they arrived. Managers comments: Group rental that was set up by their mother for a weekend getaway. The contract was for Fri-Sun at our regular rate. The mom was confused about the dates and wanted to add another day. In order to accomodate her, we added the extra night at NO Charge.

We stayed here last summer and loved every minute of it. My 3 year old son calls it The Camp House, but you are definitely not roughing it here. You will fall in love with this house from the moment you walk through the door. The amazing floor to ceiling windows looking out on the lake are so beautiful. The house is very well maintained and decorated charmingly. Grab a book off the huge shelf and spend an afternoon reading in the shade on the deck. Oh yes, we will be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.
