Typical little Umbrian village with one road that winds all the way up to the top where you find the main piazza, place to park and Via Montegrappa, my street. Only 500 inhabitants, with one church, one school, one bar, one restaurant, and even a little grocery store. The house is the highest in the village so from the windows you see the rooftops and chimneys of the other houses and the beautiful panorama beyond. The fireplace works like a dream. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom with a little terrace. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove and all necessary cooking utensils. You can even cook in the fireplace.
Sambucetole is a perfect central location from which to explore other Umbrian cities like Orvieto, Perugia, Todi, etc. There is wonderful olive oil produced right nearby and you can visit the frantoio and buy directly. There are surrounding wine producing areas as well, such as Montefalco and Torgiano (where you can visit the wine and olive oil museums). The locals can provide you with their homemade wine and freshly hatched eggs and black truffles should you desire and the local shepherd has fresh pecorino and ricotta.
This is a perfect soggiorno between Rome and Tuscany, not bombarded with tourists. Yet peaceful and beautiful... |
