This vacation rental surpassed our expectations. Easy to find, yet secluded and peaceful. You can hear the wind in the pines! Watched the elk roam past the dining room window. Close to the town of Williams. Kitchen has everything you need. We truly enjoyed our stay here.

Excellent Time had by All!

Guest: AveDog (United States)
Date of Stay: 12/27/11 Review Submitted: 01/01/12

Two families converged on this charming property in the forest, not quite sure what to expect. We all walked away vowing to return. Seven people (four adults, three children) were very comfortable here. One King, One queen, two rooms with twin beds, and a futon in another room. The littlest one wound up in a very tight, but adventurous loft above one of the twin bedrooms on a mattress we put up there. Two very comfortable bathrooms. We had been warned about water conservation, but felt no restrictions, or discomfort. One tip. Bring bottled water. The imported water at the cabin is fine, but we brought bottled water, and re-filled with fresh spring water at the Grand Canyon. We had planned to dine out at least once, but liked this place so much that we wound up just relaxing there and using the nice kitchen to prepare meals, and dined at the table looking out at the forest. Firewood was there as promised, and the pot bellied stove kept us warm at night. We especially loved the taller than normal counters. It is a bit out of the way, and yet, somehow in the middle of it all. Nothing but beautiful forest for our back (and side) yards. We were about 20 minutes from Williams, and about an hour from the Grand Canyon. It is also about 30 minutes from Flagstaff, and an hour from Sedona. We took the Grand Canyon railway on day one. (Fun, if you want to slow things down and get a quick feel for the Canyon. If you take it, the railway is very kid oriented, and bring money for tips). We spent the next two days exploring spectacular Grand Canyon vistas on the West side, then the East side. We also swung through Bearizona, a great 1 1/2 hour diversion, especially for kids. They say a great vacation is when you leave wanting more. We want more. Fun that is.

Owner response:I'm so glad that you took advantage of the fully equipped kitchen. That's one of the nice parts about renting a house vs. a hotel -- you can relax and eat what you want to, when you want to. You're right -- the view from the dining room table is spectacular! Thanks for choosing the Elk Meadow Cottage. We hope you will return when you can.

Exceeded our expectations

Guest: Marie V.
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 08/29/11

Our visit to Elk Meadow Cottage far exceeded our expectations! The home is beautiful, kitchen was fully furnished, the beds were AMAZINGLY plush and comfy. We loved the peaceful location. There is a hiking trail nearby which we enjoyed each day. We had a party of 7 (4 adults and 3 kids) and it worked perfectly for us. We enjoyed playing games, putting together puzzles, sitting on the deck, hiking, and taking day trips to Flagstaff, Williams, and the Grand Canyon. We found the property easily in the dark with the awesome driving instructions we received. A few things others might appreciate: 1) gas was less expensive in Parks than Williams and 2) our elementary aged kids really liked Bearizona as did the adults!

Owner response:Thank you so much for the reminder about Bearizona. It is one of the newest attractions in the area. Another favorite of younger kids is the Deer Farm Petting Zoo.

Wonderful Summer Getaway - Centrally Located

Guest: Jeff (Port Washington, Wisconsin)
Date of Stay: 08/06/11 Review Submitted: 08/14/11

We just got back from a wonderful week in Northern AZ at this immaculate and centrally located home. We would definitely recommend. Just be prepared to really be out in the boonies, away from everything! It is very secluded and quiet. If you need/want wireless internet service, you'll have to take your phone down the road a piece - it was actually kind of nice to be forced to disconnect for a while. Activities that we did with our 9 and 13 year old while we were there:- - Ski lift ride up Humphrey's Mountain in Flagstaff (Arizona Snowbowl): Would definitely recommend. Great views and relatively cheap. - Lowell Observatory: Just OK, but then again we're not big telescope buffs. - Bearizona: Was actually our kids favorite place. Get to ride through in your car and get up close and personal with different animals (Bear, Bison, Wolves, etc.), then go to a 'zoo' and see a bunch of baby animals. Good time. - Grand Canyon: Obviously a must see and one of my favorites. About an hour from the cabin. Hiking a trail - while tough - is a great idea. Gives you a different perspective on the Canyon. Did Kaibab and Bright Angel Trail - both were good. If you have kids, have them participate in the Junior Ranger Program - our learned a lot and got badges and patches for their efforts! - Meteor Crater: Just OK - was on our way to Petrified forest, so was a convenient stop. - Petrified Forest and Painted Desert: Probably my favorite - wasn't expecting it to be, but it was really cool. Great scenery. Highly recommend hiking the 1 mile Blue Mesa trail - best place in the park. There are some decent places to eat in Flagstaff (about half hour away) - Beaver Street Brewery was our favorite - but we actually did most of our meals in the cabin. Flagstaff has both a Wal-Mart and Target with groceries - much cheaper than eating out and the cabin has everything you would need for preparing meals. Are also a bunch of games in the game room and movies for us to watch. Our evenings were spent playing Clue, Uno, making puzzles and watching movies. Great family time. Again, we would highly recommend staying here - it was a wonderful getaway for our family!

Great Summer Vacation House!

Guest: Lisa R. (Kansas City, MO)
Date of Stay: 07/31/11 Review Submitted: 08/07/11

We just got back from our fantastic trip to the Grand Canyon area. This home was great. All bedrooms were nicely done with very comfy beds. The kitchen was perfect for cooking in the evenings after long days seeing the sites. If we did it all again, we would plan more time to stay and enjoy the home and relax in the pines. Our only disappointment was the lack of Elk appearances around the house. They remained elusive for bulk of our stay. For those considering this home I would highly recommend it! Bring some comfortable chairs to sit out on the expansive deck...With one cushioned folding chair we found ourselves wanting. For the owners of this house some additional towels would be great!

Having organised our trip from France for our familly which includes 3 young children (5, 9 and 12 years old) and their Grand'ma, the challenge was to find a comfortable and robust place to leave with no bad surprise or contingency: everything was as described and in a perfect state. The kitchen was fully equipped and we were able to cook according to French standards for all of our 6. The place (Coconino forest) fits well for a rest place: temperature is cool in comparison with Grand Canyon summer heath. We have already recommended this place to our colleagues and friends.

Nice Easter Getaway

Guest: London (United States)
Date of Stay: 04/21/11 Review Submitted: 04/28/11

We spent this Easter at the Elk Meadow Cottage and had a great time! Very appropriate name because we arrived late at night and saw 5 Elk standing next to the road. The kids loved that. There were 7 of us total and we were all very comfortable. My husband is very picky about things being clean and fortunately this house was impeccable. We never cooked in the kitchen but I saw that everything was there if we wanted to do so. Our baby loved watching all the Disney movies there, my dad loved reading in the game room while the rest of us played games. There is a cute bookshelf with novels, travel books and also puzzles and games. Williams is a cute town that is close. We ended up going to the Little America hotel in Flagstaff for Easter brunch and that was excellent. This is a great house to unwind, connect with family and get away from it all. Bring shoes to hike because there is a trail right outside the property:)

Date of Stay: 03/11/11 Review Submitted: 03/23/11

We just came home from a great week at Elk Meadow. The cottage was clean, had more than enough space for the five of us and was in a great location. Our children loved playing in the games room and in the loft area. There is so much to do around the area. We went to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Petrified Forest, Walnut Canyon, Meteor Crater and there was still so much that we could have done. Thank you Jody for your advise and recommendations. The kids loved getting the junior ranger badges. The Parks in Canada don't offer these, I wish that they did. If you have time to listen to the ranger talks, you should. If you stay at this cottage, you will not be disappointed!

Date of Stay: 10/21/10 Review Submitted: 12/10/10

We really enjoyed staying in this home while visiting the Grand Canyon. It was a very welcoming and relaxing home. Everything was in perfect order. My parents stayed downstairs and my husband, daughter and I stayed upstairs. Our daughter loved the game room. There was plenty of room and we had everything we needed. We spent a week seeing the sights. We took the Grand Canyon Railway to the Grand Canyon on our first day because it was rainy and cold. The next day we returned to the park by car. We spent the next day on a LONG trip to the North Rim. It was oh so worth it. Beautiful, and something we really wanted to do. We spent a day seeing the sights around Flagstaff--Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater, Wupatki Monument. We spent a day at The Petrified Forest. We were able to do everything we planned to do. Special thanks to Jody who made this trip possible for us. We really appreciate your help!

Great Spot, Great Cottage!!

Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 08/24/10

We had a GREAT time staying at Elk Meadow Cottage! There were six of us all total. The house was pretty and it had everything we needed. It is situated in such a great part of the State of Arizona. We used it as our base camp to travel out every day to a different location, the furthest being Page Az., but we always had breakfast and dinner at "home". We also made sure that two of those days we got "home" early just to hike the trails right around the house and see the wildlife right in our backyard. Elk, Mule Deer, Fox, Chipmunks and Jays visited us everyday just about. We landed in Phoenix on a Saturday morning, drove to Parks and stopped along the way to see Montezumas Castle and Well, then through Sedona, shopped at Walmart for foodstuffs and settld into Elk Meadow. Sunday was a trip to the Grand Canyon, (1hr), Monday was Painted Desert/Petrified Forest and Meteor Crater (1 1/2 drive), Tues, up to page to raft the Colorado (3hr drive) stopped along the way to see the Dinosaur Tracks near Tuba city, Wednesday, Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater and Slide Rock (all within 45 minutes of each other), Thursday, hoover Dam and Oatman (2 1/2 hrs to Dam), Friday back to the GC to say good-bye. Saturday Travel back to Phoenix and back Home........what a great trip and what a great house...we even celebrated my daughters 10th birthday that week in the house! I cant wait to go back to Parks Arizona! Thanks Jody and Bob.

Owner response:So glad that our home could be part of your "experience". I thouroughly enjoyed answering all your questions about things to do in the area and providing "insider tips". Thank you very much for the opportunity to get to know you.

Pictures do not do the cabin justice. Perfect house in a perfect setting. Visited at the end of July. Weather was fantastic. Hiked the Kaibab forest - trail starts right next to the house. Sat out every morning and had coffee on the back portch while looking at the beautiful mountains in the backyard. Saw a herd of Elk in the forest. Chipmonks, squirrels and lots of birds flock around the house. Did day trips to Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff, Williams and much more. All easy to get to and close proximity. Grilled on the porch at night. Slept soundly. Owners were VERY attentive and accomodating. They also provided excellent sightseeing hotspots (think we did them all). Go and you won't regret it. Thanks again for a WONDERFUL time.

Owner response:Wow, you really did do EVERYTHING! We, too, so love to sit on the back deck and watch the wildlife go by! This is really a little piece of paradise! Come again. Thank you, Jody and Bob.

secluded home near Grand Canyon

Guest: Ed & Fatima (Arcadia, CA)
Date of Stay: 07/05/10 Review Submitted: 08/05/10

We couldn't have asked for anything nicer for the start of our vacation than to be close to the Grand Canyon, and at the same time in a beautiful location secluded from the busy city. In just a few days, we were able to travel around the area and do some wonderful sightseeing, including the new Bearizona, the Deer Farm Petting Zoo, not to mention the Grand Canyon. All were a short drive - the kids loved the various things to see that they didn't have to sit in the car for 4 hours to get to. The house was beautiful and relaxing. Board games were supplied to keep the kids entertained in the evening, and a fully stocked kitchen made dinner and breakfast easier. We even had a chance to BBQ dinner one evening on the patio. Thanks to the Glasers for making their home available. It made our trip a lot more enjoyable.

Owner response:Thanks for mentioning one of the newest attractions to the area -- Bearizona. It's great for 'kids' of all ages. The younger ones especially love the Deer Farm Petting Zoo. One guest told me that they saw a deer being born on their visit.

A Wonderful Family Vacation in a Beautiful Home

Guest: Art (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/30/10 Review Submitted: 07/12/10

If you're planning a family vacation with small children, the Elk Meadow Cottage is the perfect vacation home! Our family of four (mom and dad and two boys, ages 8 and 4) spent six days in Northern Arizona this summer, and the Elk Meadow Cottage was an ideal home base for all of our sightseeing adventures. The house is better than advertised. The setting is serene and idyllic -- you're nestled away in the forest, just far enough away from the hustle and bustle. You'll love the peace and quiet. And once you're inside, the house is big and cozy at the same time. The house is beautifully furnished, and with plenty of bedrooms, a game room, a family room, and two big bathrooms, you're not going to want to leave! The owners really make sure everything is prepared for your visit. The house is immaculate and well-maintained. All the amenities are there -- a big kitchen, plenty of clean towels, and a convenient laundry room. You'll be ready for anything you've got planned on your vacation. We visited several major attractions in the area (Grand Canyon, Slide Rock Park, Sedona, Flagstaff, Meteor Crater) and after each busy day of sightseeing, it was great to return to the cabin in the woods. You'll love the town of Williams (just 20 minutes away) -- great shops and restaurants, lots of Route 66 folklore, and the Grand Canyon Train (great fun!). And be sure to catch the gunfights too. We couldn't have been more pleased with our Northern Arizona vacation...so many great memories. If you're planning a Grand Canyon getaway, you've got to stay at the Elk Meadow Cottage!

Family Vacation, Elk Meadow Cottage

Guest: Kimberly (Fulshear, Texas, USA)
Date of Stay: 06/12/10 Review Submitted: 06/30/10

We loved the house. It was just as described and a very good fit for our group of adults and teenagers. The kitchen was well equiped with dishes and accessories. We loved the location and enjoyed our visit to the Grand Canyon and surrounding attractions. We would recommend this house and would love to return some day. Hopefully, future renters will not have to deal with the housekeeper! She was not helpful and, in fact, very rude! Even though the number of people in our group was provided on the reservation, there were not enough bath towels upon our arrival. I made a friendly call to her to find out where I could find another towel. She told me where to look...none. She then said she would try to get to the house the next afternoon. My "sixth" person would not have a clean towel. She then slammed/hung up the telephone in my ear and was rude/sullen when she did arrive at the house to leave out the towel. Wouldn't it be easier to provide extra towels in the bathroom cabinets so that renters would not have to deal with this woman or, perhaps get a new housekeeper? On the other hand, the home owner was very nice and easy to deal with during the reservation.

Owner response:We are so happy that you enjoyed the house and the area. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the housekeeper. UDATE -- we have hired a new cleaning crew. Thank ou for choosing the Elk Meadow Cottage

We throughly enjoyed our visit to Arizona, and staying at your cottage was one of the highlights of our trip. It was so comfortable and pleasant. What a beautiful setting. We all agreed we would love to stay again. We hiked the trail behind the house. We could not believe how many stars could be seen and how dark it is without city lights - what a treat. We met Dominic at the corner store. He was so nice. We just had a great time. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We rented this property over spring break and it was perfect for us, our 2 kids and grandma. It has 4 bedrooms, a playroom and a small loft my daughter loved to climb up in. It is a beautiful home, well equipped and very comfortable!! I'm very picking went it comes to neat and clean accommodations and this house definitely met my standards!! It was a perfect central location for all our day trips, including the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater and Sedona. It is a quiet and secluded house surrounded by nature's serenity. I would definitely recommend this property. The owners were great and easy easy to deal with. This definitely deserves a 5 star rating!

We stayed at the Elk Meadow Cottage over Easter weekend--what a lovely home! The photos don't do it justice---the home is spacious--lots of space for our 3 generation group of 5 people. Everything was clean and well cared for. A wonderful base for excursions to the Grand Canyon, Williams and for exploring Route 66. Strongly recommend this home to any/all looking for a home base in the Grand Canyon/Flagstaff area. Don't miss Twister's Diner in Williams---great 50's diner!

Owner response:We also have enjoyed Twister's Diner in Williams. There are so many wonderful restaurants in both Flagstaff and Williams that you can't go wrong. The unique "Route 66" charm of Williams is one of the things that endeared this area to us, too. We're glad you enjoyed your stay.

Wonderful house to rent!

Guest: Kaylisa (Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 03/28/10 Review Submitted: 04/10/10

We are folks who are hard to please. However, when we walked into the Elk Meadow Cottage, there was such an inviting feeling about the home. The pictures do not accurately capture the cozy and spacious home. It is well kept and very clean. It is also close enough to all the local attractions, like the Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater. Coming back to the house, instead of having to go to a hotel room, really made it feel like a vacation. The owner was responsive from start to finish. The only drawback was the cleaning lady, who was rude when she had to come over late on our first night because we needed extra linen. It would be important to make sure the cleaning lady puts out enough towels and linens. All in all, a wonderful home to stay at and we would consider staying there again if we were ever to go back to that area!

Owner response:Thank you for the wonderful praise for our vacation home. We are so happy that you enjoyed the house and the area. We are very sorry for the confusion over the linens and towels and have instructed the cleaning crew regarding expectations for having the proper amount of linens and towels. We would love to have you as a guest on any return trips to the area. thank you!

We will be staying here again for our next trip to the area. Great to get away from all the tourist and have a peaceful place!

We had a very nice stay at Elk Meadow Cottage. It is a comfortable, very well maintained home. The setting was more than we expected. Being on national forest land added a wonderful connection to nature. We saw numerous deer and other wildlife. There were two 11 year olds with us. They spent very little time in front of the T.V. opting instead to play in the forest or other games using their imagination. It was also a great home base for trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff and nearby Indian ruins. We had a wonderful time.

We had a wonderful time staying at the cabin. It was warm, comfortable, and inviting. It was tucked far enough away in the woods to allow for quiet and privacy, yet still within a few miles of the freeway for easy access to Williams, Flagstaff, or the Grand Canyon. The wildlife in the area was fantastic (we saw 5 deer) and our only regret was not having more time to just stay at the cabin and relax. I would definitely recommend it to others and look forward to returning soon.

What a great retreat! The location in Parks made it perfect for our family to enjoy a weekend away! Beautiful scenery, a well-kept up home, and a layout that made it ideal for us to be able to have some space to relax and enjoy the outdoors! We would definitely stay there in the future and would recommend it to others looking for somewhere comfortable to escape to in the summer or winter!
