We stayed at the Wasilla House for 3 days at the end of our time in Alaska, and despite really looking forward to our stay there were a few niggly things that let the property down. The pictures were obviously taken when the house was first built, and the house has since been filled with the owners possesions - which made it feel like we were intruding on their privacy during our stay. We also weren't told that a lodger lives above the garage, and the $120 cleaning fee for our 3 days would have been ok, but we were greeted with old soap with hairs attached in the shower, as well as dirty coffee cup and coffee maker, and filthy dishes, which didn't give off the best feeling. The location was ok, but it's really just a suburban house - I think we were just expecting so much more so were a bit disappointed. However, the kitchen is wonderfully well stocked with cooking utensils and herbs and spices - the 'fire' kept us warm while watching the Northern lights, and despite us adults having a few misgivings, the kids absolutely loved the property. The table tennis was a big hit, and we had many monopoly games, card games, and fun family times sledding down the driveway. We also enjoyed watching the neighbourhood moose, birds and squirrel, and Suzie the dog was hugely appreciated by our kids - she was a definite highlight. So in the end we had a lovely couple of days - thankyou.Recommended for: Families with young children.

Our family stayed at this house for a week and a half while in Wasilla for a family wedding the summer of 2010. It was an incredible house, even more beautiful than the pictures depict. It was incredibly clean, well-maintained, and the kitchen was so well-stocked with utensils, spices, pots and pans, and tableware. There was an absolutely fabulous gas grill on the porch that we used often, generally to grill salmon and halibut our family had caught while charter fishing (plus our family brought home 150 pounds of fish, from the same charter fishing trip). The house was well-stocked in everything, including bed linens, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, etc. The house easily accommodated our large family, as far as sleeping arrangements, table space and kitchen space. The listing description and photos were all very accurate. The property manager was very accessible and helpful in answering all our questions, and the owner was very sweet and generous. We would not hesitate to highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in the Wasilla area. This was actually our first experience renting a vacation home, and unfortunately I think we'll never have such a wonderful experience again--unless we are able to come back to stay at this house, which we would love to do again some day. We used the house as a "base" for our excursions, both in the Wasilla area as well as farther. Places we saw (all of which we would recommend to others): Thunderbird Falls, Mt. Alyeska, Hatcher Pass, charter fishing out of Whittier Harbor, whale watching out of Seward (saw glaciers there as well as other places), museum in Anchorage, Musk Ox farm in Palmer, and the Iditarod Trail Headquarters in Wasilla. It did involve a lot of driving in some cases, but that is par for the course in Alaska. It was so wonderful to be in Alaska during the "midnight sun". Again, we can't recommend this house enough.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you, Monica. It was a pleasure to have your group as guests.

My husband and I along with our two sons and their families rented this beautiful home in July. The home is VERY comfortable and our grandchildren really enjoyed the gorgeous backyard and the ping pong table in the garage. We would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Alaska. The grandchildren and the young adults appreciated the wifi availibility. The house is in a great location to enjoy all sights in northern Alaska.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
