Mill Valley is a picturesque California town of 14,000 residents and creative hideaway situated on the eastern slope of Mount Tamalpais. Nestled among redwoods, hills and canyons, Mill Valley is only ten minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge and City of San Francisco, yet less than one hour from Sonoma and Napa Wine Country.
What sets Historical Mill Valley apart is not just the spectacular physical beauty of its setting, but equally its human environment-uniquely combining tranquility and liveliness, privacy and community involvement, urban sophistication and village charm. Starting in 1905 with The Dipsea Race, the first cross-country race in the country, Mill Valley has a rich cultural tradition with the Mountain Play in 1913, the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival in 1957, the Marin Theatre Company, a professional regional theatre in 1966, the Mill Valley Film Festival in 1978 and the 142 Throckmorton Theatre recently revived, although in existence since 1915.
Mill Valley is flanked by the picturesque City of Sausalito, 10 minutes south and the Town of Tiburon 10 minutes east with Angel Island State Park only a one mile ride (via Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry), all on San Francisco Bay. Although Mill Valley is close to San Francisco, it is adjacent to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and only 10 minutes to the Muir Woods National Monument and Tennessee Valley Trail head, 20 minutes to Muir Beach, or Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, 30 minutes to Stinson Beach and less than an hour to Point Reyes National Seashore.
Although one recommends longer stays, Mill Valley is only a 2-1/2 hour day trip to Monterrey and Carmel and four hours to spectacular Lake Tahoe or Yosemite National Park; Yosemite Valley should be on your 'bucket list' and, especially during late spring, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

My husband and I rented this lovely, clean apt. in Aug. and were very pleased with it. It is comfortable and has every amenity one could ask for. Great location for walking downtown, close to a grocery store and on a quiet residential street. We would stay here again anytime.

Why anyone would choose a hotel room over this is beyond me.

I stayed here with my family of four along with a friend and her son for a week. It was a little crowded for six, but the owners provided us with a very comfortable and easy to use (and stow) Aerobed that made it comfortable for everyone. The unit has everything and the owners have gone out of their way to make sure all bases are covered (I opened a top drawer of a dresser, for example, and there were baby supplies). The unit is also beautiful with high quality furniture, appliances, dishes, etc. What we liked most was the fireplace (it was cold in the morning), the well-stocked kitchen, the plants and water feature at the kitchen window (great idea), the office work station that has everything (computer, printer, paper, even new printer cartridges) anyone might need, AND the reasonable price. Why anyone would choose a hotel room over this is beyond me. We also appreciated small touches, like fresh flowers on the dining room table, a bottle of wine, and a pound of coffee when we arrived. It is obvious that the owners take pride in giving their guests a great experience. I have stayed in many excellent VRBO properties all over the world over the past several years and I would say this is definitely one of the best I have seen.

We stayed a long weekend at this one-bedroom cottage in Mill Valley - two adults and two younger children. Everything was perfect, clean, neat and well stocked. There were even a couple welcome gifts that made the stay that much nicer. The place is only 3 blocks from the downtown Mill Valley center. We went to breakfast at the Toast cafe and I highly recommend it. We would definitely stay here again.

My family and I have stayed here multiple times now...it is perfect for us. We have family in Mill Valley and love the town. Our 5 year old son sleeps in the sofa bed and it works out perfectly. The place is clean, comfortable and has everything we need for our stay, and we love the fact that it is walking distance to town, yet it is never noisy or too busy. I have also stayed here with some girlfriends when we have come out to have a girls weekend away and it was again, just right for us. I know we'll be back!

My husband and I stayed at the apartment in early June and couldn't have been more pleased. Our son lives in San Francisco and we have stayed in the city in the past and opted to try Mill Valley this trip. Mill Valley is such a charming and picturesque town with so much to offer. The apartment was perfect and truly more enjoyable than staying in a hotel in the city. The apartment is everything described in the listing and more. A well appointed, clean, spacious apt. with everything you would possibly need for a comfortable stay. We have stayed in many VRBO's in the states as well as one is Paris and this has been our favorite! We will be returning.

Perfect Base for Exploring Marin County & San Francisco!

My wife and I stayed here with our toddler son for a week long vacation / relocation visit to San Francisco. The place is an ideal location to use as a base for exploring Marin County. It is the perfect starting point for excursions to Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Bolinas, San Francisco, and the wine country, all of which are short, beautiful drives from this location. We actually looked at places in those areas and settled on here because of the location next to beautiful downtown Mill Valley. Unlike more secluded getaways, when you get back at night, you and your family can walk around downtown and find plenty of nice restaurants, coffee shops, a bookstore, and other stuff to do. There are plenty of great breakfast spots to kick off your day too. And, in case you forget anything, there's Whole Foods, SafeWay, and a bunch of big box stores just down the way in Marin City. The place itself is very tastefully designed and furnished with everything you would want at a second home for vacation. We took our toddler with us, and he slept in the crib provided just fine. The washer, dryer, and kitchen are all convenient if you're traveling with a little one. There is everything you need if you want to organize a picnic for the beach or even cook a meal at home. We felt comfortable entertaining our friends from San Francisco there. For you runners, there are plenty of pleasant neighborhoods and trails to run too. Just a head-up to fellow southerners: Mill Valley, like most of Marin and San Francisco, is chilly in the summer time. My wife forgot this. :) Think fall in the mountains, not summer at the beach. Take a fleece and some layers. I was comfortable in a fleece and shorts. The weather was a nice respite from the 95 degree heat blast that welcomed us off the plane when we got back. Daniel was a gracious host and very helpful in giving us tips on the area. I would definitely stay here again and will definitely recommend it to family and friends who visit the area.

Wow - what a great experience in Northern California last week! After leaving the hustle and bustle of downtown San Francisco my husband and I chose to stay in Mill Valley for the second half of our 12 year old son's week-long spring break adventure. The Archer's rental was perfect in every way . . . fresh flowers inside and out to welcome us, local coffee and a bottle of wine were the finishing touches to an immaculately kept and well-appointed living space. The rental offered just the right amount of room for the three of us to spread out and feel at home. Having access to a washer/dryer was much appreciated as well the on-street (better yet - free) parking! Mill Valley was a great hub for us to visit the natural beauty of the redwood forests and Pacific coastline one day, followed by a delightful visit to the wine country the next. The local restaurants were delicious and downtown shops fun to experience. Didn't want to leave. Thanks Archers! We hope to visit again sooner rather than later.

This is a great place to stay. The place is even better than the description or photos. It is in the perfect location on 1/2 block to town. It is decorated very nicely and it is equipped with everything you need for a short or even a long stay. All of your needs are met from 8 sets of towels, a washer and dryer, fresh flowers, down to little extra details like fresh coffee and a current selection of DVDs. The owners Daniel and Michelle are really nice people and so accommodating even though we really messed up on our reservations. Mill Valley is a great place to stay for relaxing, hiking, shopping, eating good food or quick trips into SF. With 3 kids, we only use VRBOs now. This one is great.

We enjoyed four weeks at this rental while vacationing in the Bay area. It was our first experience with VRBO, and we were quite satisfied. Everything was just as stated in the property description -- it worked out very well for the two of us, and for entertaining occasional dinner guests during our extended stay. Though there are street parking regulations immediately in front of the rental, we had no problem finding unrestricted parking within a block. Daniel and Michelle were exemplary “innkeepers” -- they quickly responded to any questions or concerns, were very respectful of our privacy, and were unfailingly thoughtful and considerate. We were glad that they live in the same house. We appreciated the location of the rental -- it’s less than a half-hour to San Francisco/Berkeley points of interest, and conveniently located for exploring the Napa/Sonoma wine country. We enjoyed the proximity of Mt. Tamalpais and Point Reyes -- both very lovely drives. We also liked walking to the charming “downtown” center of Mill Valley -- the village has a personality not found in more “suburban” locales. This rental will certainly be at the top of our list when we vacation in the area again!
