Amazing time at Southern Cross

I organized a family reunion of sorts at Southern Cross. We had a wonderful time. The cabin itself is very impressive. Everyone was very happy about the quality of the cabin (very swanky). And it was such a great value. The cabin is very spacious. The view is amazing. The furniture is all leather and all quality. The bedding was slightly dated but very comfy. The bathrooms were huge and luxurious. The showers had multiple heads coming at you from different angles which were fun. The coolest part of the cabin might be the theater in the lower level. The screen is huge and the seats were awesome (we had people sleep there because it was so nice). I have done several cabin trips and if I do another I am not sure how I will top this one. I will probably just do it at Southern Cross again! Only issue we had was that the cable was not working but a quick call to the owner and that was taken care of. No one really noticed because there was so much else to do.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Justin for your review. I happy to hear we met your expectations for your vacation and your family reunion. We enjoyed having you as our guests. Let me know if I can ever help in the future.

First of all, the cabin is beautiful and we all had a wonderful time. I am a little disappointed with the owner. As soon as we got there we noticed there were not enough sheets for the pullouts. We called Kelly’s number and received no response. We called a second time and still never heard from her. We also had issues with MANY ladybugs in the upstairs rooms. I itch just thinking about them! My parents are a little older and they stayed in the bedroom on the main floor. Several lights were out in the bathroom and they couldn’t see much at night. I did not think this was very safe and they were not the only bulbs out in the cabin. One griddle in the kitchen was also not working. My mother checked her phone messages (she lives in NY) when we returned from the cabin. Kelly left a message with a different number to call. I wish she would have emailed the person who booked the cabin, or at least tried to call the cabin to let us know of the change in number. When I returned from vacation I waited to hear from Kelly. I thought she would call to see how our stay was (we did call her twice). I never heard from her. I then sent an email with all the issues and waited for a response. I was not going to write a review, but as of today I still have NOT heard from Kelly.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Hi Tara, Thank you for your review. First, Please allow me to say I am very sorry for the misunderstanding. We strive to make all of our guests feel as if they are at home and I am sorry you encountered these issues. The reason for the change of contact was because I was going to be out of town during the holiday and I wanted to make sure you had the local staff's direct number during your stay should any problems arise. Before your arrival I called both numbers that were given to me when the reservation was made to give you the information. However, the cell number listed had no response therefore I called the only other number I had on file and left a message. I am very sorry you did not receive the message until a later date. I also never received any phone messages from your party. I returned all phone messages I received while I was out of town within the same day. Again, I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. As far as the other minor issues, I will address it with the staff members to reslove the issues. Thank you for bringing it to my attention so we may better serve our guests. We appreciate you as our guests and if I can ever help in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kelly, I would like to start out by saying everything was absolutely PERFECT!!!! I can't express enough how much my family and I loved the cabin (even though we called it a LODGE) it was decorated for Christmas which was a plus for us because there were thirteen in my party and we were there for a family Christmas. We have been doing this for the last three years and I will have to say this was the best one so far, we had plenty of room and all the amenities were as described in your description. The kitchen was the highlight for us because we spent a lot of time there cooking and eating and we didn't want for anything, it was fully equipped for a very large party. Everybody had a wonderful time and they all wanted to let everybody know how pleased they were with everything. The theater room was very nice but I would suggest the recliners be elevated so the people in the back could see the screen. We used it for our Christmas games so everybody could have a comfortable seat. I would also like to say the showers were very nice and all the bedrooms very comfy. You were very helpful with all my questions and yes I was worried because I didn't get to see it before check in but believe me all my worries were put to rest when I drove up and seen what a beautiful place I was at. To the owners- Thanks for sharing Southern cross with my family and I and we hope to be back in 2013. Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year!!! P.S. I would tell guest that the key pad to get in is on the side and not at the front doors.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway.

The place is absolutely beautiful inside and out, with stunning views. It is fully equipped and there was plenty of room for everyone. We enjoyed all of the amenities (the theatre room, hot tub, sauna, billiards room, gourmet kitchen, etc.) and never left the property except to go for a stroll around the golf course. Everyone had an excellent time. We will definitely recommend Southern Cross to all our friends.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Teresa! It was my pleasure helping you find the perfect vacation for you and your family. Especially considering all you had been through in the past! We are looking forward to having you year after year! Let me know when you are ready and I will be happy to help. Happy New Year, Kelly

I feel like I have become an expert in cabin rentals over the years and after staying in so many different sizes and locations. I am confident in saying that this cabin was excellent! Because a cabin is used over and over and over again, there will be a few minor issues. When you stay during a peak season there isn't always a lot of time for those issues to be fixed between visitors, but I was very impressed with the cabins condition and it was very clean. During our stay there was one of the 14 seats in the theater that did not recline (front row, first seat) and the downstairs fireplace did not work (I'm sure it had not been turned on yet). Other than that I can say that everything was in working order. I was very impressed with the fact that there were two coffee pots, two toasters, tons of dishes, coffee cups, glasses and utencils. There was even a crockpot! Kitchens are always my pet peeve in cabins because most places barely stock them and never provide anything but the basics. That was not the case at Southern Cross. There was also tons of extra blankets and pillows throughout the house. The only thing that I would suggest as improvements of the property would be seating on the lower deck and extra rockers on the top deck. Also the movie theater room would work better with the theater ascending up a slope or steps so that you can see over the heads of the folks in front of you. It took me a bit to figure out the volume controls on the theater and the less technical of our group could not figure it out. I'd suggest instructions on working the volume to be placed near the instructions for using the equipment. The room was super comfy and fun. We loved watching football and the VP Debate on the big screen. A second wifi access would be helpful on the main floor. Check-in and check-out was so easy and Kelly was a pleasure. I have rented in a variety of ways and having the cabin information provided so far in advance made it so much easier to plan out the trip, especially with 4 different parties traveling from different locations. We are very grateful that we were all able to spend time as a family very comfortably in one location. FYI: The cabin and the view make a wonderful backdrop for family photos. The fall colors were amazing and none of us wanted to leave. We all hope to return next year and stay in the same cabin...it may be the first one we will stay in twice. I highly recommend Southern Cross!Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Danny for your review! We are happy to hear we have met your expectations! Its always great to have guests that love the cabin and enjoyed their time there. Happy to know it was the perfect family vacation! Looking forward to having you return! Kelly

We stayed here in June 2012, (16 of us) It's a great house, feels secluded. Lots of trees around the house adds to privacy. The bedrooms are wonderful, nice sized, and comfy beds. Big bathrooms, ensuites, (warning, no blinds or curtains on bedrooms, or bathrooms). The dining room is great, you can fit a large crowd around the table, and with the barstools around the counter and additional bar style table next to kitchen there is plenty of room. Kitchen was well equipped, New toasters and coffee makers, although a few more of the small appliances could stand to be replaced. We loved the movie room, although it could use a new projector or lens (as there was a yellow spot on the lens) The movie chairs are comfy, and the kids loved it. The driveway is roomy, and plenty of room to park. The roads to the house have a few twists and turns, but nothing too crazy. We did have a lot of wasps buzzing around while we were there, and did notice a lot of insects drilling into side of the house (probably a big problem with log homes) There was a few things that needed updated and repaired. The oven heats unevenly, the video game machine in the pool table room is broke, sauna is on lower deck is broken, & in bad shape (they should just remove it, it's an eyesore) Things that would make this house better would be: Chairs or seating on lower deck. Blinds atleast on bathroom windows. A table to eat at on upper deck. Gas grill. Board games, or Dvd's for the movie room are always nice (not a necessity, but would make it even better) Guest book was completely full, we couldn't even add to it. Overall we really liked house, the biggest cons were the things in disrepair.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Tammy for your review. We enjoyed having you as our guests in Southern Cross. Since your stay the video arcade game, projector, and sauna have all been repaired and are all in complete working order. We hope to see you again in the future. It was my pleasure helping you plan your stay with us. Kelly

We booked this cabin for the 2011 Christmas holiday for 17 people, including small children and it was the perfect size. No one felt cramped here, plenty of space to stretch out and entertain. The game room and movie room got lots of use! Gorgeous views and we even had family portraits taken in the cabin inside and out. Gave it four stars because a few minor things could use updating, bedding, small appliances, some cookware...but overall this cabin comes equipped with everything needed to have a great family vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

My family stayed in this cabin 12/21/11-12/28/11. The cabin is beautiful, however, very poorly maintained. The light fixtures throughout the cabin were 4 inches deep with dead bugs. The bedding in ALL of the rooms were very worn and downright nasty with STAINS on everything from pillows to sheets. Mildew in showers. Roaches on kitchen counter, upstairs bedrooms were infested with lady bugs, mainfloor bedroom, a wasp and a bee were buzzing around. Also, in that bedroom there was sawdust on the dresser due to some creatures. Hot tub did not work properly, oven did not heat properly in kitchen (which was a problem with our big crowd!) Only one side of the toaster was working. I could go on and on with nonworking items. For the cost per night of this cabin, it needs a huge look see from the owner. VERY DISAPPOINTED in the NOT clean and NOT maintained property:(Owner response: Thank you for your review. We take all of our reviews very seriously and we do everything possible to make sure our guests have a great experience. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. These issues were addressed and any necessary corrections have been completed at this time. Thank you again for your visit.

We booked this cabin for a family reunion to celebrate my parent's 55th Wedding Anniversary. We were not disappointed. The views are spectacular. The furnishings are nice. Plenty of room for everyone. But I can't say enough about working with Kelly. It is so nice to know that your reservation is being taken care of and any questions are going to be answered. We ranged in age from 20 months to 78 and there is something for everyone here. We loved it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Nancy for your great review! It was all my pleasure helping you plan your trip over these last few months. I am so happy your parents loved the cabin and will remember celebrating their 55th Anniversary in our home. What an accomplishment!! Thank you again for being our guests and if I can ever help you in the future, please feel free to call me. See you soon! Kelly
