Accommodations:  Cottage, Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

Beautiful two-bedroom oceanfront cottage apartment with unbelievable views and next-door to historic Fort Moultrie.

This is the best small vacation spot you'll find. The views from the second floor porch, bedroom and living area are unbelievable. The historic Fort Moultrie property and a large maritime forest extend for over a mile up the beach making for a seemingly deserted island during walks and runs. We have a birds-eye view of every boat that passes through the harbor whether it's a cruise ship, sailing ketch or shrimp boat.

Fishing out front is good and you're almost always guaranteed to see lots of bottle-nose dolphins. Swimming right of the rock jetty is good as we have a gentle slope with small, lapping waves.

You can walk up the beach in the morning to watch the sunrise over the ocean and then sit out front in our Adirondack chairs to see spectacular sunsets over the harbor and the steeples of old Charleston.

Our place is an early 1900's old Southern beach cottage that was built to house Army Corps nurses prior to WWI. While totally updated and in great condition, we've made sure to preserve the old beach cottage charm. It's wonderfully decorated but is all about comfort.

We have lots of books for reading and napping. Much to our chagrin, we also have wireless internet, cable, DVD and an iPod ready CD player. We are literally next door to historic Fort Moultrie that is now a very uncrowded National Park but played an integral role in the Revolutioary War, Civil War, WWI and WWII.

Sullivan's Island is not a tourist town. It is a beautiful and quaint village island. It's mostly made up of full time residents. It is very safe and family friendly. You can bicycle down to the "downtown" for great restaurants, playgrounds, tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, galleries and a small grocery store. Lots of folks think of Sullivan's Island as "Mayberry by the Sea".

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage, Condo

We previously owned the other apartments in the cottage but always loved the second floor unit the most. It has unbelievable views and additional privacy.

Owner's Map of Sullivan's Island

What can I say? I be cool. My name is Roy. I love to run on the beach in the mornings where I get to go swimming and sniff all my friends. My beach cottage is the coolest place around except when my servants lock the gate up on the porch and I can't get out.

    • If there was a higher rating than "Positive" available, we would have used it. Our second visit this Sept. made us wonder why we had waited so long. We will return in Sept. 2010. A beautiful and incredibly relaxing setting.

    • We had a wonderful time on our vacation. We loved the cottage and the view was great. We really enjoyed being near the harbor where we could watch the ships come in and out. It was just a short drive to downtown Charleston and many plantations. We will definitely be returning in the future.

    • We visited the property for our third time in October 2008. This place is a little piece of paradise! We watched every sunrise and sunset in the adirondack chairs. The view is amazing! My husband has many fond memories of this place. As a child he spent every summer on Sullivan's Island. His grandfather actually lived in this same house. We appreciate the hospitality with all the comforts of home. We'll be back soon!

    • This is truly paradise! The history, the charm, the views!! This is our third visit to this property. My husband spent many summers as a little boy on Sullivan's Island. His grandfather lived in this same house and he spent many days playing on the beach and even in the Fort! Many wonderful memories are here. We enjoy staying here for so many reasons. Perfect location with all the comforts of home. We watched every sunrise and sunset sitting in the adirondack chairs! After our week long stay, all we talked about was when we could go back! One of the best vacations we've ever had. Thank you for your hospitality!

    • I lived in Charleston for 8 years...moved 4 years ago...and still miss it so. Finding this wonderful retreat was such a blessing! Having stayed for the first time a year ago, I returned this year with my fiance...we are still having withdrawal one week after our return home. The BEST is the front porch...indeed a slice of heaven. The next best is the fact Sullivan's is what it is...where one need not fear getting tangled in the tourist scene. We'll be back...we can't wait!

    • We discovered this gem several years ago and have been visiting at least three times a year. It's so homey with lovely furnishings, friendly people and the beautiful ocean. Watching the dolphins and ships entering and leaving the harbor makes it extra special -- love watching the ships all lit up a night. And you're just minutes from Charleston -- it just doesn't get any better than this!

    • Great location to get off the beaten path. Cozy, comfortable, well-appointed and very tastefully decorated. Proximity to Ft. Moultrie, and, of course, all of Charleston, is a real plus for a history buff. Sitting on the porch in the evening and listening to the rustling of the palmetto is hypnotic. Superb secluded spot for romantic getaway.

    • This is a wonderfully happy cozy spot on Sullivans Island. It's on the quiet end of the island and there's still plenty of folks to chat with and get to know like the fisherman who are out front and the beachcombers who stroll by with their children and dogs. Having the fort just steps away will encourage you to bone up on your history a little while still having a fantastic beach vacation. I would highly recommend this home and owner to everyone...very personable and pleasant to deal with.

    • Last October I had the good fortune to vacation at this lovely property. I have never felt more relaxed and peaceful! I spent HOURS on the porch watching the vast array of boats and ships entering and leaving Charleston Harbor. Ft. Moultrie is right next door to explore and the Island is quaint and comfortable with lots of places to poke around and explore. This is the place you will want to return again and again!
