WHAT A WEEK...a perfect beach week on Sullivan's Island!!

Guest: Pamella V. (Columbia, MD)
Date of Stay: 11/26/11 Review Submitted: 12/06/11

Yes, I know it is November and this month can bring you just about any kind of weather...which we experienced...two days in the 70s followed by a day of rain, then howling winds...yet, this did not interfere or diminish our stay. Overall this week after Thanksgiving was PERFECT!! I was at times in awe of the picturesque views from the porch, the contentment of just sitting still and having this wonderful place to call home. One of the best decisions we made was not to have a car (having rented a car at the airport for just one day to buy food and beverage for the week). On Sunday we returned the rental and taxied to Mt. P where we picked up 2 bikes at Mike's Bikes...pedaled the 3+ miles to the Island. After the weather glitch...which was still pretty cool to watch from the comforts of indoors...we spent much of the morn on the front porch watching dolphins. PJs until noon is never a bad thing!! This followed by walks (the length of the Island to Breech Inlet) and biking...into Mt. P to Vickery's on Shem Creek, to Isle of Palms for breakfast at Sea Biscuit...all around the Island dreaming of island living. Having lived in the area for 8 years, departing in 2003, my returns have been few...this was my 3rd trip back...twice with my husband. We'll indeed be back sooner than later to this blissful retreat. Keith is just great...always available for suggestions (that's how we learned about the bikes!)...a very gracious host indeed. You won't go wrong staying here...just please leave a week for me and my husband for our return :-)

Owner response:I appreciate the kind comments and appreciate all the incredible folks that our little spot seems to attract. David and Pamela were no exception. My guests become like family that come to visit year after year.

BEST VACATION....

Guest: Dale & Rebecca (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 09/17/11 Review Submitted: 01/28/12

BEST VACATION of our 29 year marriage!! We’ve been to numerous places for vacations – cruises, Hawaii, and many other beaches but this was the best by far. The views are unbelievable from the bedroom and living room but sitting on the porch and watching the dolphins play and the pelicans dive and just relaxing was the highlight of our stay. There are plenty of things to do in nearby Charleston and we enjoyed many of them as well. Great restaurants and walking thru the historic Market are just some of our favorite things to do. Watching the many shrimp boats and fishing boats as well as the huge barges and cargo ships was great. They seemed close enough to touch but yet you could hardly hear them as they made their way to Charleston. Sitting on the beach, going for walks, collecting shells was wonderful and it seemed as if we had the beach to ourselves. The relaxation and peace we felt there were the healing balm we very much needed after losing my Dad earlier in the year after declining health for several years. Keith was very attentive to our needs and we couldn’t have felt more at home if we were in our actual home! We’ve already booked another week in this piece of paradise.

Wonderful week in a wonderful place! True old beach experience!

Date of Stay: 06/11/11 Review Submitted: 06/18/11

The ocean breeze was constant, the view mesmerizing (ships continuously passing, sometimes looking like they were so close you could touch them) and the peace wonderful. This is a true days of old beach place with the modern conveniences. We had a great week and this is a wonderful place to stay. Thank you Keith for being a very responsive host. We really enjoyed our stay, and the water bucket for paw washing was great!

Perfect Spot For Rest & Relaxation

Guest: Sue & Alan (Lancaster, PA)
Date of Stay: 04/09/11 Review Submitted: 04/19/11

Ideal beach scene-watching day-long dolphin activity, the quiet passage of freighters and sail boats, & beachcombing, on an island where breezes always blow. When looking for something to do, take a stroll next door to Ft. Moultrie for a close-up of Civil War history, or drive 15 minutes into historic district of Charleston for carriage or walking tours & museum visits. Suberb dining to be found on island (High Thyme) or in city, but if cooking in, you must look for amenities in Mount Pleasant. Simple but very comfortable for sitting & sleeping-2nd floor front & back porches allow for super air flow. So nice to have linens provided, along with kitchen necessities, like condiments, paper products, laundry supplies, soaps, baggies. Flowers greeted us in all rooms-most welcoming. Can't wait to return next year! My grandchildren would love this place. The photos do not exaggerate.

Civil War History & Beachfront Splendor

Guest: Susan (Lexington, KY)
Date of Stay: 04/02/11 Review Submitted: 04/23/11

We didn't realize that the Civil War began precisely 150 years before our visit, but by the time we left, we'd learned a lot. With Ft. Moultrie beside this beautiful place, and Ft. Sumter just across the water, we had a first class view of Civil War re-enactors, as well as pelicans, dolphins, sailing ships, wind surfers and even a wedding at the beach. Sullivan's Island is a unique and laid-back place to spend a week, and our upstairs apartment/condo gave us a fantastic and comfortable spot to relax. Thank you for sharing, Keith!

Owner response:Besides having absolutely incredible views and great accommodations, our cottage apartment is truly a history lover's paradise. Lots of places have been the site of a single historic event, however, our location has been the site of numerous historic events for over 250 years! In April of 2011, there were over 300 Civil War reenactors encamped next door at Fort Moultrie in commemoration of the 1861 start of the Civil War. The reenactment of the firing from Fort Moultrie upon Fort Sumter (both in clear view from our cottage) was a history lesson to us all. Keith

What can I say that others haven't already said? It is everything they say it is. We loved the location, the comfortable space, the beach, the boats going in and out of the harbor, the covered deck, and on and on. So close to Charleston, but in its own unique environment of Sullivan's Island. I feel so blessed to have found this place for our week away.

Fabulous week with our dogs!!!

Guest: Carol & Craig and Ti' Amo & 'Deo (Orlando FL)
Date of Stay: 11/06/10 Review Submitted: 11/14/10

This cottage is everything as advertised and more! It is clean, comfortably furnished, amply equipped and quiet. We felt very safe staying here. The owner was kind enough to allow us to bring our 2 Silken Windhounds - they loved bird-watching from the front porch and romping on the beach. Note: all dogs on Sullivans Island (residents and visitors) must be licensed, so make sure you visit the Town Hall website for details and get your dogs licensed. We spent many relaxing hours hanging out on the front porch..reading, lounging, watching a variety of watercraft, the dolphins by the jetty and enjoying our happy hour cocktail while watching the beautiful sunset. Not many places can offer viewing of the sunrise and sunset, but you'll find that here. In addition to the incredible choice of restaurants in Charleston for us two-footers, we sought out outdoor patio dining options so our dogs could join us. As of this writing, here are a few restaurants allowing dogs on their outdoor patio: Home Team Barbeque, Sullivans Island (just down the street from the cottage); in Mt. Pleasant you'll find Red's Icehouse on Shem Creek and Dog & Duck welcoming pets; and in Charleston is Parson Jack's. For a leash-free dog park experience unlike any we've ever seen is at the James Island County Park The dog park is HUGE and our hounds had a blast. We enjoyed our stay so much, that we've booked another week in April 2011!

This past week on Sullivan's Island was great. Seeped in history, our rental was charming. Keith greeted us with a pumplin at the door and orange roses in the kitchen. This was my lab's first experience at the beach and she loved it. We will go back next fall. Perfect relaxation.

Truly a must see!!!

Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 07/22/10

My daughter took a picture of the view to the ocean from our porch and it is now my screen saver. I still cannot believe the view we had. It was just the two of us along with our Cavalier King Charles Chloe and we all loved it. Chloe would stick her nose out between the rails to smell the ocean and my daughter and I loved hanging out just to watch the passersby. Within 10 minutes you could be to Mt. Pleasants for groceries or restaurants and then another 10 mintues got you into Charleston. The condo is extremely comfortable and cozy. Wonderful for a family and a dog. Hope to revisit next year! Thanks Keith!! :)

My New Home Away From Home!

Guest: Stacey (Atlanta, Georgia)
Date of Stay: 06/19/10 Review Submitted: 07/24/10

How much do I love this place? So much that my husband, son and I visited for one week last month and we've already reserved two weeks for next summer! After relaxing on the porch each night, I fell into a blissful sleep...usually dreaming that I won the lottery and convinced the exceptionally gracious property owner to sell out to me! The harbor view is amazing. We saw dolphins, jet skis, sailboats, speed boats, shrimp boats, Coast Guard ships, container ships, cruise ships, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, the Morris Island Lighthouse, Fort Moultrie, Fort Sumter, etc. The location is so special that visitors from other parts of the island pop over to take a peek. The rocks along the shore are a popular spot for evening photo shoots. But, there is NEVER a crowd. And, the condo has private access to the beach and adirondack chairs. What makes Sullivan's Island so awesome is that it is a place of historical significance with a laidback, peaceful vibe - a true beach town that is not overly developed/commercialized. But, it has several good restaurants and a couple of little stores for stocking up on staples. Charleston is an easy drive (15-20 minutes?) to countless top-notch restaurants and stores with ample parking. I am counting the days until our stay next summer. In fact, I'm even inviting my parents to join us for a few days. There is plenty of room for them in the comfortable, well-equipped condo, and I know that they will have a blast! If you are thinking about booking a stay, I say do it now. You won't regret it!

I used to live in Charleston, and it was fun to return and stay on Sullivan's Island which I knew well. I loved this "condo". The view over the ocean and channel into the harbor was amazing (so much ship and sailing activity!); the access to and the beach itself perfect. I loved the charm of the condo, funky, simple, extremely comfortable and practical. It is easy to get to all the areas around Charleston from here. I do hope to return.

If there was a higher rating than "Positive" available, we would have used it. Our second visit this Sept. made us wonder why we had waited so long. We will return in Sept. 2010. A beautiful and incredibly relaxing setting.

We had a wonderful time on our vacation. We loved the cottage and the view was great. We really enjoyed being near the harbor where we could watch the ships come in and out. It was just a short drive to downtown Charleston and many plantations. We will definitely be returning in the future.

We visited the property for our third time in October 2008. This place is a little piece of paradise! We watched every sunrise and sunset in the adirondack chairs. The view is amazing! My husband has many fond memories of this place. As a child he spent every summer on Sullivan's Island. His grandfather actually lived in this same house. We appreciate the hospitality with all the comforts of home. We'll be back soon!

This is truly paradise! The history, the charm, the views!! This is our third visit to this property. My husband spent many summers as a little boy on Sullivan's Island. His grandfather lived in this same house and he spent many days playing on the beach and even in the Fort! Many wonderful memories are here. We enjoy staying here for so many reasons. Perfect location with all the comforts of home. We watched every sunrise and sunset sitting in the adirondack chairs! After our week long stay, all we talked about was when we could go back! One of the best vacations we've ever had. Thank you for your hospitality!

I lived in Charleston for 8 years...moved 4 years ago...and still miss it so. Finding this wonderful retreat was such a blessing! Having stayed for the first time a year ago, I returned this year with my fiance...we are still having withdrawal one week after our return home. The BEST is the front porch...indeed a slice of heaven. The next best is the fact Sullivan's is what it is...where one need not fear getting tangled in the tourist scene. We'll be back...we can't wait!

We discovered this gem several years ago and have been visiting at least three times a year. It's so homey with lovely furnishings, friendly people and the beautiful ocean. Watching the dolphins and ships entering and leaving the harbor makes it extra special -- love watching the ships all lit up a night. And you're just minutes from Charleston -- it just doesn't get any better than this!

Last October I had the good fortune to vacation at this lovely property. I have never felt more relaxed and peaceful! I spent HOURS on the porch watching the vast array of boats and ships entering and leaving Charleston Harbor. Ft. Moultrie is right next door to explore and the Island is quaint and comfortable with lots of places to poke around and explore. This is the place you will want to return again and again!

This is a wonderfully happy cozy spot on Sullivans Island. It's on the quiet end of the island and there's still plenty of folks to chat with and get to know like the fisherman who are out front and the beachcombers who stroll by with their children and dogs. Having the fort just steps away will encourage you to bone up on your history a little while still having a fantastic beach vacation. I would highly recommend this home and owner to everyone...very personable and pleasant to deal with.

Great location to get off the beaten path. Cozy, comfortable, well-appointed and very tastefully decorated. Proximity to Ft. Moultrie, and, of course, all of Charleston, is a real plus for a history buff. Sitting on the porch in the evening and listening to the rustling of the palmetto is hypnotic. Superb secluded spot for romantic getaway.
