My husband and I stayed here for a week in June. The cottage and the North Fork area exceeded our expectations. The cottage is small but had everything we needed - a comfortable bed, nice kitchen for cooking, and a screened-in porch and grill that we used almost every night. You could survive here without a car - there's a grocery store and a beach within 1/2 mile, but we were really glad that we rented a car to explore the area more - we found great rocky beaches, seafood, vineyards, etc. The owner was easy to deal with and provided alot of good local tips. We liked it so much that we went back for a weekend in September.

Best Little Cottage in Mattituck

My partner Giles and I spent a wonderful 14 days in this cottage in Mattituck, N.Y. The owner had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. The beauty of this cottage is the location. It was close to shopping, restaurants and all of the beautiful country roads, farm stands, and vineyards on the North Fork of Long Island. The photos of the cottage do not do it justice....it is much prettier in person. We loved the fact that it has a full kitchen with a GAS stove, dishwasher and washer/dryer (in the basement) My partner, who cooked gourmet meals, found that he had everything he needed to whip up wonderful breakfasts and dinner as well. The owner left plenty of sheets, towels, soap, and many other things including a well-stocked first aid kit. We loved watering her flowers and I even went out and bought 2 huge bags of bird seed to feed the squirrels and birds on her front lawn. It is quiet at night and we would wake up to birds singing in the trees. We would recommend this cottage to our friends and relatives for its quiet, but central location to all the needed conveniences of home. Gas station is 4 minutes away and bank, large shopping center with restaruants, movie theatre, and food stores. We would recommend Love Lane Kitchen in Mattituck for breakfast, and the Touch of Venice restaurant for that special evening dinner on their patio overlooking a boat-filled inlet. For fun we also visited THE BIG DUCK in Flanders.....it is a hoot and nothing like it anywhere, it will make you smile. Also enjoyed the Pindar Vineyards, the Horton Lighthouse in Southold, and the Cutchogue Diner (for a meal that makes you think you are back in the 1950's with chocolate milk shakes and hamburgers made the old-fashioned way with buns grilled with the hamburger, and a soda fountain. We also made a return trip to the Chequit Inn on Shelter Island with its outdoor patio filled with hydrangea bushes and the best cold lemonade and well-prepared food. The ferry ride to Shelter Island, although short, is also fun and the smell of the sea air and passing yachts and other boats makes the trip worthwhile. My partner, Giles and I love this part of Long Island as it is like going back in time when people lived in small towns and were friendly and life moved at a slower pace. We would choose the North Fork over the South Fork anyday.

What a delightful experience! We stayed at the cottage while attending the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black. It took some time to get from Mattituck to the course but being from Montana we were accustomed to driving long distances and after having spent some time in the city we were very happy we chose to stay where we did. The owner was extremely pleasant, helpful and accommodating. The cottage was clean, quite, comfortable and exceeded our expectations in every way. Evenings we spent exploring and enjoying the company of the local inhabitants. We are looking forward to our next stay when the Open returns to Shinnecock Hills.

We had a lovely time at this compact but well-equipped cottage. The screened in porch, outdoor shower and garden added to the experience. The owners were a pleasure to deal with as well.

My family of five stayed in this cottage in early June. The cottage was perfect for our needs. The beds were comfortable and a nice location. The cottage is small but cute and charming. We loved the screened in patio. It was excellent for hanging out in the evening and enjoying a bottle of wine. The owner is very helpful and accomodating. She provided very useful information regarding the area as well. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Great, clean cottage. Close to all transport. We enjoyed BBQing, sitting on the wonderful porch and reading in the hammock. The owner is very responsive and helpful with local tips. We had a wedding in Mattituck and the central location was great for all the different events.
