Come visit the Kailua, HI beach town where President Obama and his family vacationed in December 2008. We are located in the world famous beach community of Kailua, on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii, where there are two highly rated beaches within minutes of each other, Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach. A short five-minute walk from our cottage and you will be at Kalama Beach park which is connected to the stretch of Kailua Beach.
Despite sharing the same beautiful stretch of white fine sand, and stunning views of the Mokulua islands as Kailua Beach, Kalama Beach Park is smaller and quieter making it easy to relax, whether you’re gazing at the gorgeous expanse of water and the commanding views of Mokapu Peninsula, reading a book, or just snoozing. In addition, the beach has lots of shady spots, so you don't always have to be out in the sun. Kailua Beach Park is a ten-minute walk from the cottage. Just go to Kalama Beach Park and walk east for 10-15 mins. on the beach to get to Kailua Beach Park or walk even further east to get to Lanikai Beach which is a three-minute drive away. Be sure to check out both!
The cottage studio is a 600 square feet detached dwelling from the main house with its own entrance. It is decorated in a modern Hawaiian-style and has a kitchenette with full size refrigerator, microwave, electric skillet, coffee pot & toaster. The dining area consists of a bar height table & two chairs. The entry way has oak laminate wood flooring and the area for the bedroom is covered with carpet. There is a covered parking spot directly in front of the cottage studio for easy loading and unloading. The cottage does not have a washer and dryer but a laundromat is just down the street. Instead of cooking inside, try grilling on our charcoal BBQ grill which is located on the back patio, charcoal and lighter fluid and condiments are provided for your use but please replace what you use.
Travel sized shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, sunblock, and fresh towels are supplied along with two beach towels, two beach mats, two beach chairs, a small cooler and a beach bag. Boogie Boards and childrens beach play items are included in unit. Two sets of adult size snorkels, masks and fins can be provided for an extra charge of $10/each set per week.
Soak up the sun, swim/surf/snorkel in the ocean, or enjoy a beautiful hike to a tropical and remote waterfall in the nearby Koolau Mountain Range. Our quaint beach town of Kailua offers many "local favorite" choices for dining, shopping & entertainment. Guests are welcomed with complimentary coffee and condiments. Why the Owner Chose Kailua
We chose Kailua because both Kailua & Lanikai beaches are listed in the Top 100 Best Beaches. Kailua is the premier desitnation for windsurfers, kayakers and snorkelers. Kailua Bay has a protected reef, perfect for snorkeling and other water adventures. It has beautiful beaches and two secluded islands in the distance.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio
Kalama Beach Park is a 5 minute walk from our cottage and is part of the stretch of beach known as Kailua Beach. It offers restrooms, showers and is pet friendly. It is the best windsurfing spot, with shady spots for relaxing and easy access to renting kayaks, snorkel gear, boogie boards and bicycles.
If you're lucky, while swimming, you may be greeted by a Green Sea Turtle. A short paddle leads to Popoi'a "Flat Island" a protected bird sanctuary.
Part of Kailua Beach, this beach park has restrooms, showers, shady spots, and is pet friendly.
Three major grocery stores, banks, restaurants, Macy's, Pier I, and other shopping.
Clean, safe, well lit facility. Has money changers for quarters which accepts $20 bill.
This trail offers views of the Ko'olaupoko watershed and views into some lush gulches. Moderate level of difficulty. 1.25 miles
Owner's Map of Kailua
My husband and I grew up in New Jersey but we love the beach! Ultimately our honeymoon in Maui made us decide to move to Hawaii. Once here, we found ourselves driving over the Pali Hwy every weekend to Kailua& Lanikai Beach. The soft, white, sand, the calm, shallow, crystal clear water, the windy breezes all added up to the perfect stretch of beach. There was no question; we had to have our own Hawaiian cottage close to Kailua Beach.
I hope you enjoy our proximity to the beach and Kailua town. If at all possible, take a day trip to Maui, Lanikai or Big Island as they are spectacular too and each has a different "feel" to it.

We can't think of anyplace more perfect to celebrate a significant birthday! What a lovely piece of paradise...Some favorites for our family of four: Kalama Beach! Morning walks & afternoon boogie boarding, North Shore-snorkeling at Shark's Cove and the gorgeous drive, Pearl Harbour & USS Missouri, Hanauma Bay-get there early & at low tide, Waimea Falls park for gorgeous gardens & fun swim but most importantly-the sun, water, sand and great family memories. Do the pictures look too good to be true? They aren't! From the soft, comfortable bed to the short walk to the beach, everything in the add is just as described.
