Relaxing weekend......

Guest: D (Rockford, IL)
Date of Stay: 10/13/11 Review Submitted: 11/12/11

I stayed at Journey's End in Oct 2011 with "The Girls" for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. The Ham Festival was in Cadiz w/live bands. The shopping was amazing and anyone who likes antiqueing will love it there. The house was beautiful! Plenty of room for the 5 of us and all our treasures. Sat outside on the deck in the morning w/ coffee and listened to nothing but the birds. No neighbors to look at just flora & fauna. And then after a day of festival and shopping, the hot tub came in handy. Just relaxing. I will definately return.

Family Vacation Friendly

My Husband $ Kids and Mother and Father spent 4 days and 3 nights at Journey's end. We took our Bass Boat and fished Lake Barkley. It was wonderful the house was emaculant and well stocked and furnished. I was very impressed. The Kids had plenty of room and we had plenty of room for adults to have our own privacy. The Cabin was more private than I imagined at the end of a culdasac all alone. The walk down to the shelter house was a little steep however who couldn't use the workout anyways right. I wish the weather would have been a little cooler but other than that we will return no doubt about it. Would love to schedule a vacation for the fall it would be beautiful with all the changing leaves and cool breezes. Overall a wonderful experience and great place for a family vacation. I highly reccommend Prizer Point Marina if you are looking for a place to take the kids or rent a pontoon we did it while down there and it was great! The beach at the Lake Barkley Resort was not the greatest really muddy, very little sand and shallow. Land Between the Lakes is great way to end the evenings quiet drive and nice to look at everything.

Relaxing

My husband and I stayed in this place in March, 2011 and this is one of the nicest places we have stayed in for vacacation. Very secluded and quiet. We hope to bring our family here during the summer. We loved it. There is lots of room and it is very clean and welcoming. We put the address in our GPS and it guided us right there. The only down side was the main fireplace was not working but that was a small inconvenience. We enjoyed all the antique stores in Cadiz.

The Gal's had the time of their lives!

We took a whole mess of ladies up here for a weekend. We do this frequently, but usually go to the Smokies. I have to say that after staying in this place, the Smokies just seem like a hassle. We were so relaxed. The house was amazing. The lake nearby was a bit muddy due to drought, but we made it through. The hot tub was much used, but i think the chlorine was a bit high because it bleached my swimsuit. No worries on that, though. Better than a dirty tub for sure. The grills work perfectly and I loved the porch swing. The kitchen is big enough for several people so making group meals was very easy. I am planning another trip soon.

Wonderful property!

Guest: Rachel (Nashville)
Date of Stay: 09/03/10 Review Submitted: 09/14/10

My girlfriends and I spent a weekend relaxing at this wonderful home. The property is much more impressive in person! The decks are huge, with plenty of space for playing cards, grilling, and watching the numerous humming birds. I was able to bring along my dog, who had the time of his life! Be advised - although the water is close by, it's not the best location for swimming. We had better luck driving a mile or 2 down Parkview to the public ramp. Also, there are a lot of bees around the house (they looked more like hornets to us,) but in general, they left us alone. Would recommend turning off the outside lights at night and they seemed to leave. All in all, we will most definitely be back!

THINK WE'VE FOUND WHERE WE WANT TO RETIRE

We could not have enjoyed our time at the Journey's End more than we did. The owners have thought of everything and leave your every need fulfilled. Nature walks in the morning (with plenty to see), return to take some time to read or use the hot tub and just relax and let go of all that nervous, hectic energy that you arrived with. Take a drive to town and shop or go over to the Elk/Bison park and drive thru (a great photo opportunity), bison not ten feet from you car, visit the Farmers Market or just go into town and chat with folks who are more than pleasant, Cannot imagine not returning to the Journey's End....it seemed like home. Thank you, Vicky!!

Reunion

My family and I went for a family reunion in a nearby town and loved our stay here. The surroundings were peaceful. We say multiple deer everyday. Close to a town, but not too close. It was spacious and quiet. Would definately stay here again.

The Journey End Log home was a very enjoyable stay for two families of four. The house was nice and the back yard area was wonderful. You feel like you are in a tree house! Drinking coffee on the back porch swing and listening to the wildlife was amazing. It rained the first night we were there and it was great! The sound of the rain in the trees and on the roof was so relaxing! As far a accommodations, it would sleep twelve, but it would be tight with only two bedrooms. But we put all four kids on couches and the floor downstairs and they had a ball! We walked down the hill to the lake and it had receded quite a bit. But it was a short drive to the lake to fish on the bank so it was not a big deal. My friend and I actually walked the 1 1/2 miles to the lake, but got a ride back with our husbands, too many hills!!!! We also went to the local store to pick up a few items we had forgotten and they had a little bit of everything, so we did not have to go any further. Very friendly people too! I would recommend the Journeys End Log Home for a great getaway.

I went up to the cabin with 9 of my friends, a few married couples and a few singles, all between the ages of 25 and 27. The cabin was perfect! It's large enough to accommodate a large group, and there is so much outdoor space to grill out, play yard games, and just have a good time. The hot tub is a nice touch too. It's just far enough away from the closest house to feel like you have complete privacy without being out in the middle of nowhere. I highly recommend this cabin for large groups that want to get out of dodge for a few days, relax and enjoy each other's company over a few cocktails.

If you're looking for peace and quiet while having enough amenities to keep things comfortable, you've found the right place. Simple touches made our 3-night stay very wonderful... The covered hot tub (perfectly clean), the koi pond (also clean, and with a couple of resident toads!), the huge grill, fenced in asphalt driveway (great for kids on scooters), and a fully furnished kitchen (with dishwasher). Having the huge covered deck with two large picnic tables provided ample eating space for 11 of us. Everyone enjoyed the wild turkeys, deer, hummingbirds, and chipmunks. The 3-car garage was nice also, as our vehicles were safe from the weather. T.v.'s and air conditioning were a nice touch. We brought a couple of coolers of food (and a cooler of beer/soda) and never had to eat out. Cadiz isn't that far away, though. The log home location allows you to travel either north or south to visit various Lake Barkley/Land Between The Lakes destinations. This was a great vacation spot!

I just got back from a girls weekend at this house. It was absolutley perfect for us. The house, grounds, decks, and hot tub are amazing and in perfect condition. The gas fire place was one of the best things about the place. There were plenty of little amenities not listed that make the stay even more enjoyable. The owner was very professional and easy to work with. I would recommend this house to anyone that wants to spend time somewhere secluded in the woods. I hope to go back in the fall to enjoy the trees and the seasons changing.

The first thing to say is the house is very nice. We had a dog, and it worked out wonderfully. The house's 5-zone gas grill and hot tub were used extensively. The upstairs fireplace wasn't operating during our stay, but that was a small inconvenience. One thing that needs to be pointed out. This house in is not on the water, and the inlet that is the public picnic area(the access road is next to the house)is fairly small. There should be some note on this site stating that if you are visiting in the off season (as we were - 3rd week of September) the level of Lake Barkley is lowered by about 10-12 feet (the start of the level lowering is mid-August but the effects take about 4 weeks to really affect activities). This leaves the inlet at the picnic area a waterless and muddy wasteland. If you intend to rent a boat or pontoon you MUST go to the north end of the lake (Eddyville) or go to the west side of Kentucky Lake to get to navigatable waters. The herons and egrets standing only knee-deep all around Lake Barkley makes an interesting, and telling, picture of just how shallow they make the lake. We were the in the third week of September and most everything is shut down - including Cadiz. If you are renting this house, please keep in mind a few things. 1). Trigg county is a dry county. 2). Cadiz is SMALL and quaint. 3). Local dining options are VERY limited both in selection and hours of operation (some places closed at 3:00 on a Thursday "night"). So bring most everything with you - the House's grill is fantastic, and there are a lot of places there to sit outside and enjoy the evening. The house is isolated because the housing development is about 5% sold - you have no neighbors. Morning walks through the development are quiet and nice - lots of birds, turkeys and deer every morning. All in all, we enjoyed the house. Cadiz is not much for what we needed. Be prepared to drive 30-60 minutes to enjoy Land between the Lakes. So if you need a quiet get away with not much to distract you, this house fits the bill.

Owner response:Thank you for your comments. I would like to add a couple of details to the comments: Trigg County is a dry county but there are towns that have alcohol available such as the town of Gracey that are in close proximity to Cadiz. The town of Cadiz is small and quaint but really offers a lot. From gas stations, drug store, department stores, grocery stores and antique shops. There is a McDonalds,Sonic drive thru, Subway sandwich and several restaurants including Barkley lodge and Prizer Point restaurants. Hours vary and the Barkley Lodge is open until 9pm. The land between the lakes is approximately a 30 minute drive and well worth visiting all year round. The Corp of Engineers does control Lake Barkley and they do begin to lower the lake at the end of summer. I would also like to add for all renters that we have several phone numbers available to contact us anytime during your stay to help you fulfill your vacation enjoyment and answer any question you may have. I am glad you enjoyed the home. It is a very lovely and relaxing home to stay in and enjoy wildlife.

Journeys End Log Home was a great place for two families to meet for a summer get-away. The house was nice with all the ammenities needed for cooking and relaxing. The courtyard area was a great enclosed place for kids to play as well as the adults. We enjoyed grilling and eating outside as well as relaxing on the porch swing and the various other seating areas. Fishing down at the cove was fun with a picnic at the pavilion. This is a great home to consider for your vacation!!!
