Quiet and Cozy!

Guest: James (Gladstone, Oregon )
Date of Stay: 05/03/12 Review Submitted: 05/16/12

Great location on a very private North Shore beach. You will not find any Hotels, Wal-Mart’s or chain restaurants in this quite neighborhood but you will find a beach that you can have all to yourself. For the best snorkeling walk down the beach to the right about 100 yards at mid to high tide when the wind is down. There are plenty of Turtles and you may even see a native Hawaiian fishing with a throw net. The house is representing very well by the pictures and it is kept very clean so we would like to give it no less than a 5 star rating!

Owner response:Aloha James - Thanks for appreciating the quiet and privacy, the snorkeling and the cleanliness! I'm very glad that you enjoyed our great location and beach, as well as the beach house itself. Thanks for your visit and review, aloha, Stephanie

A Perfect Place!

Guest: Wogdog15 (Nevada)
Date of Stay: 04/08/12 Review Submitted: 04/26/12

This home was a delight, it is right on the beach and is represented perfectly by the pictures. Our stay was absolutely amazing, we felt like we never wanted to leave. This is a true old-school Hawaiian Gem. We swam with turtles, rode boogie boards, BBQ'd and spent many wonderful times on the lanai. When we come to Oahu in the future this is where we will stay, cannot wait to come back. We played croquet on the lawn and enjoyed sunsets and sunrises on the beach. Haleiwa is 10 minutes away and had all the amenities we could ever need. If you want to skydive or ride a glider, Dillingham airfield is just minutes away. We swam at Waimea nearly every other day and took surf lessons from Uncle Bryan in Haleiwa. Very thoughtful, knowledgeable and efficient owner. If you want a truly rejuvenating time on Oahu, come to the North Shore, and definitely come to Ku'u Home Mokule'ia. Mahalo Stephanie!

Owner response:Aloha "Wogdog" family! Thanks for selecting our beach house for your stay, and it sounds like you had many wonderful family experiences there. I'm glad it worked well for you and your family, with our beach, lawn and lanai just waiting for some fun times like you had! And you took advantage of the area's offerings, too. Thanks again for coming to stay and Mahalo from me, Stephanie

Location, Location, Location

Date of Stay: 02/21/12 Review Submitted: 04/08/12

Al & DeDe Eugene, OR 2/21/12 - 3/21/12 Aloha Stephanie, We found your "Ku'u Home Mokule'ia" beach house even better than we had imagined. The description in the VRBO web site was spot on. What wonderful memories we have of our stay there. (Four weeks was not enough.) We appreciate the care and thoughtfulness you have taken in keeping the home authentic by maintaining its original Hawaiian atmosphere. Your knowledge of the area was valuable to us and you provided everything to make us comfortable. We enjoyed hanging out in the back yard overlooking the beach. It is perfect for bocce ball, turtle, whale, bird and surf watching during the day, sunsets and cocktails by the beach in the evening. The location is great for walks on the beach and walks down the access road with its minimal traffic. Dillingham Airfield, Farmers Market at the old sugar mill, Waialua and Hale'ewa are all within an easy 10-15 minute drive from the house. We loved the whole experience and are looking forward to returning. Your concern for our comfort and well being was really appreciated. Mahalo and Aloha! Al and DeDe

Owner response:Aloha Al & DeDe - It was a pleasure to meet you and have you stay! I'm very glad you found our place "even better" than you had imagined, and that you have wonderful memories of your visit. We endeavor to keep the ambiance and charm of the beach house from its early years, while providing comfort and modern conveniences. You were great guests; I'm happy that you liked it, and plan on returning! Mahalo and Aloha to you two, and see you again! Stephanie

Tropical Cozy Nest

Date of Stay: 01/15/12 Review Submitted: 01/27/12

This is a wonderful place to stay. It lived up to all our expectations. The house was vintage and so cute. It had all the amenities we wanted. The fact that it was right on the beach was a plus, plus. We walked right out the door and went snorkeling. Other days we went on a hike, visited Pearl Harbor, went to Waikiki and the Polynesian Cultural Center. All are well worth the effort. We also went up to Turtle Bay for an enjoyable lunch in the outside dining area. The weather in January was very pleasant. We certainly would stay there again.

Owner response:Mahalo for staying! Thank you for appreciating our vintage beach house, and all that we have to offer, including the location. Yes, January is a pleasant month, and you certainly did a lot, plus enjoy our place. Please do return; we'd be happy to welcome you, and connect, again! Aloha, Stephanie

Relax and Unwind

Guest: The Apollonis (Oklahoma)
Date of Stay: 09/25/11 Review Submitted: 10/17/11

My husband and I enjoyed our WAY overdue alone time vacation. The house was great, we really enjoyed the beach and yard during our stay. The turtles would come and say hello everyday & join us on our quest for the perfect seashell. We are looking forward to the next time we are able to visit. The location is great! Right on the beach (snorkeling was LOTS of fun), close to Haleiwa (good food & shaved ice) and if you feel the need to jump out of a plane...it is just down the road! :-) The fresh flowers and fruit were the perfect touch for our arrival and no detail was missed. Thanks so much for allowing us into your home, we really enjoyed our time there.

Owner response:Aloha, Apollonis! Yes, it was time to get away, relax and unwind, just the two of you, and I'm so glad that you decided on our place. With the turtles beckoning to you, you enjoyed sea-shell hunting and snorkeling with them! I'm happy that you liked our house, yard and beach, and its proximity to Haleiwa too. It was our pleasure to have you stay, and we'd love to see you again! Aloha, Stephanie

Breathtaking views and your own beach right outside your door!

Guest: E.R. (Los Angeles, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/21/11 Review Submitted: 10/13/11

We wanted to celebrate our 8th anniversary and our 3 year old daughter's first trip to Hawaii away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. We've visited Oahu many times and often stayed in Waikiki. This time around, we wanted a quiet and relaxing vacation. With amazing views and a private beach right outside your door, this beach house offers exactly that. The beach (which is steps away from the house) is pretty secluded, where we only saw a handful of people occasionally strolling by. There were so many things we loved about this house. But what we will truly miss is waking up to the sounds of the waves every morning, and having our meals in front of the bay window to watch the waves (and sometimes the surfers). Our daughter loved playing in the sand and watching the turtles that frequent the beach. Thank you, Stephanie, for sharing your family home with us. We see the pride in ownership of this great house. You are a great hostess who embodies the aloha spirit. Aloha and Mahalo. A hui hou.

Owner response:Aloha! Thank you for selecting our place, for your 8th anniversary celebration and the first visit for your sweet daughter to Hawai'i! I'm glad that you enjoyed hearing the waves in the morning, your meals in front of our big picture window (yes!) and the breathtaking views and "your" beach by day. (Child-approved, too!) It is always a pleasure to share our place with like-minded people, those who desire a quiet, relaxing vacation, and who appreciate our home, with its own amazing views and beach front experience. Aloha and Mahalo to you, too, and, always, a hui hou! Stephanie

Sooo hard to leave

Guest: Jude (Centennial, CO)
Date of Stay: 08/29/11 Review Submitted: 10/19/11

Stephanie's home was a dream cottage for us --- bright, comfy and cheerful, a place you just don't want to leave . . . and we rarely did! This charming vintage home let us feel like we were part of old Hawaii. The house, lawn and beach were exactly as the pictures show. The ocean view from the living area will be in your memory forever with the beach about two breaths away from the door. Beach walking in both directions goes on and on and the beach was almost empty except for Labor Day weekend … to be expected. Turtles, feeding right in front of the house, all day long. Lapping waves, always. Two days the surf was really high so the waves roared and crashed. Otherwise, it was ideal swimming. One morning we met up with a snoozing turtle on the beach and another morning we saw the sand markings where eight turtles had pulled up on the beach to the sleep the night before. Gorgeous weather. We had it all. Stephanie has equipped her house so well with everything you could ever want: beach/water toys; snorkeling gear; beach chairs; every conceivable kitchen gadget, dish, pot and pan; office supplies; lots of reading material; videos; and Wi-Fi. One day I decided to challenge the house. There must be something it didn't have. Nope! In addition, ceiling fans cool the house wonderfully. We had warm weather - high 80's and low 90's most days - and the house was always comfortable. With a glass of wine, watching the sunset every night on the grass overlooking the ocean, it was like being in a movie. Breakfast and dinner by the big oceanfront window. Ohhh, the view. And sleeping was heavenly. The ocean lulled us to sleep every night. I did, however, wake up one night to a thundering ocean. The surf was up! And I went outside to watch the crashing waves under a magical starry, starry sky. Then very early that morning surfers paddled out to ride those crazy waves. We loved that entertainment as well as the daily skydiving from Dillingham Airport, just down the road. But nothing took our eyes off the ever-present feeding turtles for very long. We've been on the N. Shore several times before so we didn't spend much time beyond Haleiwa (except for the great farmers' market on Sunday morning. Be sure to go.). But the beaches toward the end of the road were new for us . . . gorgeous and nearly empty. Stephanie is a superb hostess - helpful and thoughtful with lots of information, tips, and local goodies! Mahalo Nui, Stephanie. We'll be back. Just wish it could be next week!

Owner response:Aloha Jude and friend! Thanks for letting us know how much you enjoyed your stay at the beach house! Walks and waves and swimming and turtles, oh my! Yes, the view will remain a significant part of your memory, from inside the house and from both the lawn and beach. We are happy to have people who appreciate our vintage beach house, and location, with all they offer, and we will happily welcome you back soon, Jude! Mahalo nui and aloha, Stephanie

Rest and Relaxation

Guest: Lorrie (Ft. Collins, CO)
Date of Stay: 07/22/11 Review Submitted: 08/24/11

This was our 30th wedding anniversary, and we are so happy with our choice to stay here. The house is cute, comfortable and clean, and its location right next to the ocean is fantastic! We particularly enjoyed seeing the turtles play in the surf as we sat on the lawn in the shade. On our last day, we were lucky enough to see spinner dolphins fishing nearby. We also really enjoyed going to the local farmer's markets and snorkeling. Stephanie gave us a lovely gift basket to celebrate our anniversary, and she was very welcoming and helpful in getting us oriented. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet vacation in a lovely location.

Owner response:Aloha Lorrie - it was a pleasure to help make your visit and anniversary a special time, at the beach, and you had the very unique, and most rare experience, to see spinner dolphins from our house, celebrating your stay too! The daily visits by turtles are always a treat and the local farmers markets are wonderful too; so glad you enjoyed your snorkeling and our quiet location. Perfect for "rest and relaxation." Thank you for staying and wishing you two an on-going 30 more years of happiness! Aloha, Stephanie

Great family home away from home!

Guest: Bech Bound Buckeyes (Westerville, OH)
Date of Stay: 07/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/24/11

We spent 10 nights here and chose the house based off the descriptions and location in VRBO. We were not let down when we arrived, it was great! We also chose the house so we could spend time with one of the members of our party that is stationed at Schofield. The distance from Schofield is perfect and allowed for us all to spend quality time together as a family, daily. In our clan there were 5 (3 Adults, 2 Kids) of us and we had a great time. There was plenty of room and everyone had their own space. We spent many nights grilling out and eating as family, enjoying the sounds views and sunsets. The kids favorite activity was to take daily snorkeling excursions behind the house with the turtles. There was plenty of gear for all to enjoy; masks, chairs, boogie boards, etc. The very short walk to the beach and ocean (IN THE BACKYARD) made for a great place to sit and drink morning coffee or an evening night cap. The sights sounds and views all melt the stress away. At night you can lay in bed and be put to sleep by the sounds of the ocean . . . The neighborhood is perfect and quite. The home is not on the major roads, so you do not have to deal with highway traffic noise. The location truly allows for you to enjoy all the North Shore and Oahu have to offer!! You can do as much as you want or as little as you want. Once you get here, you will not want to leave. We did not want to! This is definitely a home away from home and is perfect for a family vacation. We will be back and look forward to the next trip!

Owner response:Aloha Buckeye friends! Thank you for staying and I'm so pleased to know how well our beach house worked out for your family! It is good to point out the convenience to Schofield, for some family-togetherness, as well as feeling that you all were able to have your own space in the house. So glad you enjoyed your family grilling and eating, and beverages, all with views, plus the quiet, while your children enjoyed the snorkeling, with the turtles! I'm glad you too found it to be a "home away from home" - that is my hope - and I'd be happy to see you again and have you return! Aloha, Stephanie

Wonderful Vacation "Home" away from home

Guest: JellyBeanLoud (Salt Lake City)
Date of Stay: 06/02/11 Review Submitted: 07/13/11

We found this wonderful home when we were planning our 1st trip to Hawaii in 2009 and fell in love! We found it to be so peaceful, relaxing and homey. We were only sad that we had planned it for the 1st part of our trip, as it was a great place to just relax and sit on the beach. So when we were planning our trip for 2011 we decided to make this our final stop before heading home so we could unwind fully. We spent 10 wonderful days here on the beach, swimming with the turtles and having a great place to come home to after a day spent exploring. The owner is wonderful to work with and is truly interested in making sure you have a wonderful time while you are there.

Owner response:Aloha and thanks, Jelly Bean! It was wonderful to have you return. It really shows that our beach house was what you wanted! We're glad you were able to have a longer, more relaxing stay, too. The house and beach (and me) await you, if and when you might like to return! Aloha, Stephanie

Stephanie, it was a pleasure living in your house for a week while vacationing in Hawaii... No better place to stay than on the quite side of the North Shore just in front of the beautiful ocean... Your home is so lovely... I love the kitchen, the bathrooms... taking a shower with the doors that open up to the outside view of the gorgeous ocean & plants was so much more refreshing than just a regular shower... & main bath has a bathtub... : ) The second bedroom & bathroom has its own area upstairs & gives a little extra privacy for couples OR children... The living room is perfect for social gatherings & what a view... also, the main eating area with the beautiful large table for breakfast, lunch or dinners is great for couples or a large family.... speaking of view... no matter where you are in the house the view is spectacular.... : ) Your neighbors are very respectful & quite... The beach is amazing... !!! The ocean water is perfect.... Swimming was so wonderful... I think I saw 3 people on the beach the whole time I was there.... talk about private.... : ) Yes, Terri & I survived the Tsunami... Although we were there during this terrible time... it was so amazing how sweet, you the owners & the neighbors were that came to our rescue to inform us on what to do next... The entire island had a great organized evacuation process... In the end everything worked out great... No one was hurt & there was no damage to your lovely home... Of course, our thoughts & prayers go out to everyone in Japan....!!! Thank you so much for the organic cookies...& the sweetest pineapple ever....!!! Yum.... Yum....Yummie.... : ) For sure I will be back to have the pleasure of staying in your home again... We had a blessed experience.... : ) All our love & aloha, Rochelle & Terri

Owner response:Thank you, Rochelle and Terri, and Aloha back to you! We are pleased that everything worked out well for you, especially considering the rare tsunami evacuation, and we wish the best, also, to the people of Japan. We were fortunate with the limited wave action on our beach and the front of the lawn. We certainly invite you both to return, and enjoy an even more peaceful repose at the house and beach! Aloha, Stephanie

Anonymous 11/7/10. Wonderful, quiet, relaxing vacation location. House and property are as described in the listing. Owner was excellent in providing us with all info we required. We would recommend this property to anyone wanting a "country style experience" with the beach and a beautiful oceanview thrown in. Surfing didn't look too bad either. Thank you for making my mom's 65th birthday extra special at your beach house.

Owner response:Aloha, and thank you for staying and celebrating your/your mom's birthday! I'm glad you found it to be a wonderful, quiet and relaxing Hawaiian "country" beach vacation location. And we hope that we are able to make occasions a bit more special when possible! Aloha to you both, Stephanie

To our delight, we have stayed in this charming, clean, genuinely Hawaiian beach home many times & look forward to many more breezy starry rejuvenating stays. Unlike most other NoShore Oahu locations, its beach with reef is swimmable even during winter months, and snorkeling is excellent all year. Close to Haleiwa town & under an hour to Honolulu. A true gem to enJoy!
