Located in Tuscany, between Florence and Siena, the castle offers charming holiday apartments and villas for rent (sleeps up to 32) in a 14 hectares park with ample lawns, olive groves, and large wood. The property offers a large swimming pool with a panoramic view of San Gimignano, an outdoor Hot Tub, a tennis court/five-a-side football pitch, a large area for BBQ, a playground for kids with swings, slide and volleyball net. The particular position of the estate, as well as offering tranquility and privacy with its unique panorama which has been unchanged since 1300, also makes it the perfect starting point for excursions in the surrounding area; historical cities of Florence and Siena are about half an hour drive away. Itinerary: How to reach Castello di Pastine by car
Address: Strada di Vico N° 2 – 4, 50021 Barberino Val d’Elsa (Firenze)
Leave the A1 motorway at Firenze Certosa and take the Firenze-Siena dual carriageway on the right, come off at Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, and continue towards the town, going past it towards Barberino Val d'Elsa, in the direction of Poggibonsi - Siena. Once you have gone through the town of Barberino Val d'Elsa, take the provincial road no. 50 on the right and follow the signs for Vico d'Elsa-Sant'Appiano. At the next intersection, about 2km further on, turn left and follow the signs for Pastine taking the right turn-off at the first fork in the road and turning right again into Strada di Vico. After about 200 m, once past the sign for Pastine, the gate giving access to the property is at no. 2 – 4 on the right.

Other amenities:: The estate is inside a private park which, with its romantic paths and breathtaking perspectives, provides the opportunity for pleasant walks immersed in nature. The 9x18 m swimming pool has areas reserved for each apartment, fully equipped with deck chairs, sun beds and private tents. The tennis/five-a-side football ground is in synthetic grass; close by there is also a ping-pong table, a small skating rink, a volleyball net, sling and slide for kids. The panorama from our private sunset terrace is heartbreaking.
Trekking trails in the woods of the park are reserved exclusively for the use of guests. Not far from the castle there are excellent restaurants, trattoria where you may enjoy dishes that have made Tuscan cooking famous throughout the world, or even attend a cooking class.
Just a few minutes away by car are supermarkets, shops and sports activities (golf, horse riding, bike hire etc…) which our staff will be pleased to help you choose.
Other Activities:: At Castello di Pastine you may swim, play tennis, soccer, table-tennis, volleyball, and enjoy nice walks inside the private garden. The playground for kids located on a nice, quiet area of the private park. Nearby Castello di Pastine there are many activities such as: horse back riding; golf; bowling; cinema movie theater; pubs; live music. In several periods of the year in the nearby towns there are many 'sagra' (typical town festivals with fireworks, live music, medieval representations). There are typical family owned restaurants close to us (in Vico d'Elsa, S. Appiano, Petrognano, as well as Barberino Val d'Elsa, Tavarnelle and San Gimignano) where you may taste the Tuscan food, or even take a cooking class, if interested. Wine tasting tours are a must! Ground floor: large living room, with two entryways and large characteristic windows with views, which is subdivided into three sections: a sitting room with divans, a study, a dining area and kitchen equipped with oven, fridge with freezer, dishwasher and large fireplace. TV/DVD/SAT upon request. First floor: 1 single bedroom, private bathroom with bath/shower, 1 double bedroom and 1 bedroom with 2 beds, 1 bathroom with shower and window. The apartment is equipped with all necessary fittings for leaving and cooking and delivered in a clean and tidy condition. Bed and bath linen are supplied (no pool towels). Abbiamo scelto di ritornare ancora una volta in questo luogo incantevole per potere godere del rilassamento e della quiete che offre la tenuta con i suoi prati e la splendida varietà di alberi e fiori. Oltre alla magia del castello, fin dalla prima volta, abbiamo apprezzato molto la cordialità e l'ospitatilà da parte della famiglia Materi, proprietaria del posto. Sicuramente una vacanza al Castello di Pastine, aiuta a riconciliarsi con i ritmi quotidiani e non abbiamo alcun dubbio sul consigliare questa esperienza a chiunque voglia provare il vero relax, sapendo, eventualmente, di poter lasciare i bimbi lliberi di muoversi e giocare in un ambiente idoneo.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Castello Di Pastine is a perfect setting for a truly relaxing break. My family ( including 2 teenagers) had a lovely time exploring Tuscany and even Rome and Venice, but Pastine was always a welcome retreat after a days sightseeing. The pool overlooks the Tuscan countryside and the loudest noises are the cicadas. Guido was an excellent host who gave us advice on travel and restaurants. The tennis courts came with racquets and balls, the laundry room came with washing detergent! We wanted for nothing. My favourite part of the trip was sipping a glass of prosecco and watching the sun set.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

About the owner: Ciao! I am Guido, the manager 'factotum' here at Castello di Pastine. I was born in Florence on 1975. I spent all my childhood in Firenze, growing up with my brother Nicola, who is now a priest. After High-school, I had the opportunity to go abroad and study in Boston, at Boston University, School of Communication, where I got my bachelor on 2001. Back in Florence, I felt in love of an Italian girl, who is now my wife. We got married on 2005, in a beautiful Church, near by Pastine. Now we have 3 marvelous children, who are our joy. Among my greatest passions/hobbies are: board games and theater (I am an impro-actor, and I have an amateur theater company). *** I am behind Castello di Pastine since 2004/2005. And I love my job.
Why the Owner Chose Barberino Val d'Elsa:
Castello di Pastine is like an island. Being on top of an hill, and surrounded by its private park, our estate offers breathtaking views that can not be described in words, and can not get in their entirety in a single photo. You need to come to understand what I mean. The atmosphere is particular. The estate is surrounded by a forest that works as a big lung, offering fresh air every day. The main building is very old, and dates back to 1500. But there is the evidence of Etruscan architecture (700 b.C.), as well as many prehistoric fossils (shells), that reminds us that millions of years ago, Pastine was about 15-30 meters underneath the sea level.

Castello di Pastine was an investment made by the old company of my father, back in the late 80s. At first it looked like the 'sleeping beauty' castle, since it was was surrounded by brambles and ivy-covered. It took many years to restore it. It was open to holiday rentals starting from the mid 90s.

When you get to Pastine you cry two times: when you arrive, and when you depart. You cry when you arrive, because things are different here...we are not perfect, I have to be honest; there are many things here that could work better (in Pastine, and in Italy), or that could be treated in a different way, with a different system. But this is part of the discovery, I guess...of the beauty of traveling, and knowing something different from your home.
Then you will cry when you depart...because after a while you get used to all these little differences and imperfections ... and you begin to love them, since they are the very ones to make this place unique.
