Here you can watch the eagles soaring over head and many times landing on the near by trees. Our waterfront home has an open concept with magnificent water and Mt. Baker views. It is nestled in the woods giving it the privacy needed for a peaceful vacation.
The main level has a living room with cathedral ceilings and floor to ceiling windows which flood the home with light and bring the outside in. There is also a massive rock fireplace perfect for cozy intimate evenings. The kitchen is large enough for multiple cooks and the breakfast bar seating is perfect for the 'kibitzers'. There is a den that can be closed off to serve as another bedroom. In addition there is a bath with shower and a guest half bath. On the upper level is a very large master suite with en suite bath, jetted tub, separate shower and double sinks. The Master Bedroom has a new King Size Bed. There are 2 additional bedrooms with Queen Size Beds and another full bath. The main level has another bedroom with day bed and trundle or you can use the Queen sleeper sofa. The full bath is adjacent. There is a large deck with a portion of it covered.

What a lovely home. The Island, the people, the house with its fabulous view from every room was just what we wanted and needed. Thank you, thank you. From the starfish in the tide pools to the jetted tub it was a delight. There was plenty of room for Us and our adult children and grand children. Super kitchen!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: The expansive windows in the living room makes you feel you are actually outdoors. There is lots of light which gives the home the feeling of a place you want to be in for lively conversations with friends and family or just a quiet spot to rest and relax. The kitchen is perfect for the larger group, as there are many work stations. We even had one of our guests hold a cooking class in the kitchen. The fall and winter months gives one a totally different perspective of the island. The crisp air makes a walk invogorating, the leaves changing color in October is always a delight. Coming home to a fire in the two story river rock fireplace warms the bones. The holidays are always a treat here.

There are a group of us "girls" who graduated together in 1981. We got reunited, via emails, in 2006 and decided to rent a house and all meet there. This is now an annual trip for us. We all look forward to it and prepare for it all year long! We usually go to a different location every year. The Eagle's Rest was the house we stayed in for 2009. There were seven of us able to make it that year. (There are 10 in our group, so we always rent a house big enough in case everyone is able to make it, we will have enough room). The house was perfect and there was more than enough room for all of us and would have been also if everybody had been able to make it. We were there in mid July and it was AWESOME!!! The weather was great and so were the daisys! The kitchen was the best equipped one we've had so far in the houses we have rented. It had everything we needed; even with one of The GIRLS preparing us a 7 course dinner one night! It has a nice, rocky beach you can walk down to. (The trail is kind of steep, though). There was even a deer down there one day when we went down. The sunrises coming in the "wall of windows" are stunning, especially with the beautiful views of Mt. Baker and, I believe the others are called "Sisters" mountains. The deck on the main level is huge and even has a dining table on it, as well as comfortable "adirondack" chairs and other seating. We enjoyed sitting out there a lot during our stay. We also chartered one of the boat companies from Orcas Island for a 3 hour island tour. That was a lot of fun. He came and picked us up right on the beach on the west side of Lummi Island, near the Willows restaurant. All in all, it was the BEST house we've had so far on our annual GIRL trips!!! We have even talked about renting the Eagle's Rest again in the future for our trip. If you are thinking about renting it; do it! I don't think you will be disappointed, and Virginia was so nice, helpful and easy to deal with!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My extended family stayed at Eagles Rest and Seaside Cottage in April 2010. It was a lovely setting for the gathering. The two homes are only a minute apart down the gravel driveway. Both were clean and well maintained in terms of anything that would affect visitors. The spacious living room of Eagles Rest looks out over the water and you can see Mt. Baker and smaller peaks and foothills to the east. The stone chimney is impressive and there is lots of space. There is a small cluster of homes along a gravel drive almost parallel to the main road. In April there were few other people there. We had the beach to ourselves. To get there you just walk down a short path. The beach is small but there are sand, rocks, giant logs, and marine life, and it is secluded from other properties. Great for kids and dogs. The property manager, Virginia, checked in on us the second day and brought over missing supplies such as pillows promptly. She was also prompt and courteous in communications beforehand and afterwards and followed through on anything promised. One slight drawback was the proximity of the main road. It is not heavily traveled but some cars seem to be going fast for such a narrow road and dogs and children need to be watched closely so they don't run up there. Cars also can be heard when they pass; in the Seaside Cottage I had to wear earplugs at night, but I'm very noise sensitive and it might not bother others. People walk on the road but it doesn't seem comfortable to me since there is no shoulder and the sight distance is limited. Dogs and children also need to be watched closely so they don't go on other properties, and it's not clear what the boundaries are. In the summer I imagine it would be important to keep any outside noise down, and noise from other nearby homes might intrude if occupants weren't careful. I didn't feel drawn to walk anywhere and I also didn't really feel secluded, but it is probably secluded enough for most. Some of us greatly enjoyed the short hike up Lummi Mountain that's only a 10 minute or so drive away. It's a good little exercise jaunt for hikers but could be significant exercise for non-hikers. It doesn't reach a peak, but there's a beautiful lookout over the water and islands. The homes could be made even more welcoming if there were small touches such as flowers or treats the first night, or if the kitchens were slightly better furnished with basics. But all in all it was a very satisfying stay in a lovely spot.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Eagle's Rest is situated at the end of a single lane dirt and grass road with no properties to the south, water to the east and a vacant wooded lot to the north and no homes visible from it. The home is surrounded by large evergreen trees where the eagle's like to perch. There is only one road around the north end of the island and the speed limit is 25mph. It is frequented by locals and visitors alike who enjoy walking or biking the 7 mile loop as it is by the water the majority of the way. The summer months will find families with small children all enjoying a fun biking experience. The island roads do not have shoulders but drivers are courteous to those sharing the roads with them and there is always space to step off the road. The tranquility and peace of island living sometimes makes those not used to it more sensitive to the occassional external road traffic. We will take stock of the basic flour, sugar, s&p etc. that we provide to make sure that it is full.
