The Harrison Modern worked out very well for us. The location in the Capitol Hill neighborhood is both convenient to downtown Seattle and is well situated relative to restaurants and grocery stores. We really appreciated your restaurant recommendations. Jamjuree on 15th was terrific--the best Thai fooe we've had and with very reasonable prices. Table 219 (now Americana) for breakfast was also exceptional. And we tried to go to Barrio, but weren’t able to get a reservation--next time we'll plan ahead. The apartment worked very well with plenty of room for four people. The kitchen was well stocked, everything worked worked well.

It's always nice to have the comforts of home on vacation, while still being able to take advantage of everything your destination has to offer. The Harrison Modern scores high on both counts. The apartment was very comfortable for us and our three-year-old son. Being able to cook and do laundry on-site was a real convenience. The Capitol Hill neighborhood is great, with plenty to do and see within easy walking distance. And downtown Seattle, with all its attractions, is also an easy walk from the Harrison Modern. If you need to go further out, there's quick access to the city's buses and trains. One of Seattle's real strengths as a city is its walkability, and the Harrison Modern's location really lets you experience that, without venturing too far from your "home away from home." All in all, it was a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
Owner response:Thanks for the review David, we are very lucky to have such a great location. I hope to see you back soon. Ian

Stayed in Seattle for 2 nights between Vancouver and Portland. Visited the Boeing Factory on the way which was fantastic and spent most a day at the EMP Centre and did the Underground Tour. Really enjoyed the city and wished we could have stayed longer. Apartment comfortable with all amenities we required with restaurants and supermarket close by.

Had a wonderful care free stay at the Modern. Location is close to everything and the surrounding neighborhoods are interesting to walk through at any time of day. Please note that 12th street is very busy and you will hear very interesting conversations late at night as people walk home from the clubs/bars/restaurants/coffee shops. We certainly were entertained by this though some nights it did bother us a bit when trying to get to sleep. Nothing that Ian can do about this so just enjoy the show! Also note that there is no central AC; Seattle typically may not need it but it can be awkward if you expect it. We were fine as we spent most of our time outside. Only suggestion - the lovely big flat screen tv only has very basic cable; it would be better to have more tv choices available or the ability to pay for on demand programming. We enjoyed the accomodations and the location greatly and would recommend it to family and friends. We would stay here again.

This was our first experience using HomeAway and overall it was a good one. Staying at the Harrison definitely allowed us to get to know the city on a more personal level. It was easy walking distance to many restaurants, coffee shops, etc. It is Capitol Hill so biking back to the Harrison can be a challenge! The property was clean and well maintained. We stayed in the 2 bedroom which had the private outdoor area which was wonderful to sit out in the evening! It was very simply accommodated but covered all basic needs. The kitchen could be better equipped for cooking meals as far as cookware (not enough pots and mixing bowls, no cookie sheets, no pepper which you wouldn't expect to have to buy) The master bedroom mattress was way too soft without any support. The unit had hardwood floors everywhere which are great except that there is a unit above and you heard constant footsteps at all hours which made it difficult to impossible to sleep in the bedroom with the twin beds. If you're not a light sleeper and like soft beds then you love it! As I said, overall it was a good experience.

I rented the apartment for myself, my husband and our daughter (12). The apartment was clean and functional and of a very nice size. Access to the laundry room was very convenient and helpful as we were there for a week and being able to do lundry was great. The night we wanted to BBQ, the grill was out of gas. A quick call to Ian sorted that out as he brought his grill over and we used that. Great service! We had company one evening as well and it was nice that the kids could run around in the private garden area for a bit. Having the offstreet parking was also helpful as parking is at a premium. It is quite a hike up and down the street to get to buses and the grocery store. After the first time walking to the grocery I found out that I could park for free in the garage behind the QFC for 90 minutes - the cashier validates the ticket. This was a boon. We enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay again (exect that it's rather expensive, but then everything in Seattle is!).

Hello, I highly recommend staying at this property. The location was perfect and 4 of us were very comfortable. The apartment was immaculate, especially the bathroom. If you are looking for a place to get out and walk to see Seattle, have fun in the local establishments during happy hour, and retreat after a long day to enjoy a meal together, then this is perfect. The kitchen is very well stocked and the layout works perfect for everyone hanging around while you cook. My only suggestion is to buy a new barbecue and the twin beds could use some updating...I would ask prior to renting if the mattresses have been replaced like the king size. The owner obviously maintains this property extremely well and the set up for access is very professional.
Owner response:Thanks for your detailed review. After receiving your comments about the twin beds I have replaced them on August 17th, 2011 with Sealy Posturpedic mattresses. I have also replaced the burners on the BBQ. I very much appreciate the feedback without which I would not know items are needing to be replaced. Thanks you. Kind regards Ian

We were in town for a sad event, but staying at the Harrison Modern helped turn everything around and we had a delightful time! The place was clean and modern and very comfortable. Softest mattress I've ever slept on. Ian made us feel very well cared for, and the location was perfect for us! We could walk everywhere, which is a treat when you come from Texas. There were shops and restaurants and all kinds of street life in every direction, but "the modern" is tucked into a quiet little spot filled with flowers and darling homes right in the middle of it all. We ate Italian, French, Thai, Ethiopian, seafood and burgers. We hung out at tiny coffee houses and read newspapers and watched the people and their dogs. But the best was on our last night; we found a place on Broadway called Dilettante/mocha cafe. It was amazing! All they served was chocolate and martinis! Really! So fun! It was truly the dessert for our trip. Just keep in mind that this is not a place for little kids or people with disabilities. But the laundry room is brand new and first rate. Thanks Ian, we had a wonderful time. We will be back for sure!
Owner response:Thanks for the great review, I'm glad you liked the new king bed and the neighborhood. I hope to see you again soon. Regards Ian

We found the property to be very clean upon arrival, and comfortable. It was within easy walking distance of a very good grocery store (and a discount card helpfully provided!) and some great coffee stands. It allowed us easy access to the Seattle University area including some great ice cream, pleasant park area, and very nice views. There is a reasonably furnished kitchen, access to a shared laundry area, and a very pleasant backyard patio area. The home is furnished nicely with Ikea-style modern furniture. We found the large bed to be softer than most, but quite comfortable! Through no fault of the owner, we found TV choices on cable to be abysmal. Instead, grab an umbrella or a hoodie and go exploring!

I rented at Harrison Modern with a group of colleagues for a week during an academic conference. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The property was just as described and was located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. It was an easy walk/bus ride to the convention center, and provided lots of restaurant/bar/bookstore opportunities for our evenings. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

We stayed with Harrison modern in October and loved the apartment so much, we stayed there again this past February. We have stayed at 2 of the apartments so far and love them. They are tastefully appointed and always updated. Ian installed a new flat-screen tv during our stay in October, and in January he put in a New king-sized mattress. The units are taken very good care of, so if you choose them, be like us and take care of it... we are planing to use them again. Other places in this great neighborhood were competitive and we almost tried a new place, but Harrison Modern was available and we trusted them, knew what to pleasantly expect, and knew we were getting the best in the area.
Owner response:Thanks for your review, It was great to have you back with us. We take great pride in the property with regular updates and maintenance to keep it 5 star - All the apartments now have flat screen HDTV's

My family of 5 spent our CNY holiday in Seattle visiting friends and relations. Having had stayed at the Modern Harrison Apartment for the 12 days had contributed more good and happy memories to our holiday flash backs. It is a modern, trendy, spacious, clean and bright apartment with all the things you need as at home. The location of the apartment is suprisingly convenient to all places, as such, food, grocery, shopping, restaurants, post office...... just about anything you may need. Easy access to the freeway entrances. Landlord, Ian, is a very friendly and helpful person!! This will definitely be 'the vacation home' for us on all of our future returns to Seattle.
Owner response:Juliana, Thanks for your wonderful review, I feel very lucky to have such a great building in a fantastic neighborhood. It was lovely to meet you and your family, I hope you will visit Seattle again soon.

What a wonderful two-weeks, spent exploring all that Seattle has to offer from the Harrison Modern. My husband and I gave the gift of travel to each other this Christmas and Seattle is on our short list of most livable cities. We were fortunate to have discovered the Harrison Modern, as it proved to exceed our expectations in every way. The apartment is neat, clean, spacious, open floor plan, minimalist-modern decor with a well equipped kitchen. Kudos to you both, for providing high quality cookware for guests like us, who like to try our hand with the gems found at the many farmers markets. The basement laundry is a gift and makes packing light, doable. Linens and towels are a cut above most hotels and vacation rentals. Thanks for this little-appreciated creature comfort. The best thing about this immaculate, well decorated, low density location is you get the best of both worlds - a quiet residential neighborhood and only a three-block walk up the hill to the distinct neighborhood microcosm of 15th, that is low key, great restaurants, coffee/tea and a QFC (grocer) with a neighborhood feel. Great wine shop on 15th, north of the QFC, the owner has eclectic taste, great values and hand-writes his own tasting notes. Coastal Kitchen is a great breakfast venue until 3:00 pm. If all you desire is caffeine, Victrola would be our pick, with 5 other options, within two blocks. Try Smith for happy hour. Continue down 15th, away from the QFC and you will find one of the cities greatest food co-ops the Madison Market, one block up hill,on Madison. Walking from the Modern along 15th makes you feel like you are part of the community. Head downhill, Broadway is home to recycled clothing, two wonderful art-house theaters the Egyptian and Harvard Exit and the Capitol Hill Farmers market. Head South on Broadway to a fabulous park or North on 15th to Volunteer Park, home to both a Conservatory and the Asian Art Museum. The Volunteer Park Café, nestled amidst the residential neighborhood, just downhill on Galer, makes the best scones on the planet and has a chicken coop and raised-bed garden in the backyard. Need to expand your range, Seattle buses are great, easy routes to the University District, Wallingford and Ballard. Don’t miss the Sunday Farmers Market in Ballard! Thank you both for providing a wonderful apartment from which to reignite our passion for the wonderful mecca that is Seattle. We look forward to a return visit!
Owner response:Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful review. I am thrilled you had enjoyed Seattle and your stay with us. I look forward to seeing you on your next visit. Regards Ian

Harrison Modern was great. The designated parking would accommodate two cars, which was extremely helpful. The place was attractive in that nice clean modern look, the beds were comfortable, and it was great to have laundry accessible. We used the tv since it was the beginning of World Cup Soccer - but our favorite was the small, very pleasant back deck for morning coffee. The neighborhood was quiet with markets and coffee conveniently close; walking in the neighborhood was enjoyable. We'd go again in a minute.
Owner response:Thanks Sue, we look forward to seeing you on your next visit.

At the end of a superb 5 week vacation in N Oregon & Washington we were delighted to arrive at 1111 East Harrison street. It was clean, stylishly furnished (excellent Art work), well equipped & very comfortable-the bed was SOO lovely!! Outside was a leafy, private garden for evening relaxation. When visiting a city we like to avoid sterile tourist hotels & prefer to live in a residential neighbourhood where it is possible to absorb the real character & feel of the city-we so enjoyed the ambiance & vibrancy of Capital Hill. The apartment's location was ideal for local shops & eateries on 15th and on Broadway. The leafy roads, well kept & colourful gardens, lovely homes & proximity to green areas such as Volunteer Park made this a very attractive area indeed-it reminded us of the Notting Hill district of London. Access to central Seattle was easy using buses 11/12 from 15th Ave or 43 & 8 from E John. We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Seattle --a real home-from-home AND a very helpful landlord.

We converged on the Harrison Modern from Oregon, Alabama and Eastern Washington for my Mom's Total Hip Replacement surgery that took place 1.11 miles up the road at Swedish Hospital. The surgery was a success. The Harrison Modern was cozy, clean, comfortable, and convenient -- the perfect home away from home.We rented the two main floor units that adjoined each other through the laundry room. The kitchen had all of the equipment I needed to prepare family favorites, the linens were clean and in good repair and the neigborhood was lovely. We walked everywhere! My children want to stay at the Harrison Modern next time we come to Seattle and I do too!

Our group of three women stayed in Unit 1111 for 5 nights in March. We had a great time at the apartment -- everything was just as we expected, and very comfortable. We loved having a living area where we could all gather to hang out or to work, and a kitchen for easy breakfasts. We even had local friends over for a home-cooked lunch during our stay, much to everyone's amusement. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfortable, and the location was great. The back patio/yard area was an especially nice feature. We were delighted to have an alternative to staying downtown. I visit the Seattle area many times a year; I look forward to returning to this convenient, comfortable rental.

Our family of 4 stayed here for 6 nights whilst visiting Seattle for the first time - a “home away from home”. The apartment is very spacious 2 bedroom with a private garden area out back. It is very tastefully decorated and Ian has ensured every need and comfort is catered to - even a discount card for the local grocery store on Broadway. Joes Bar (café not a bar) became our daily destination (also a favourite with the locals) – walk up to Broadway and turn right, keep walking until you get to E Roy Street intersection - all of a sudden you step from the “eclectic “ part of the neighbourhood into a “quaint” little area. Joe Bar is on the corner opposite the old theatre – its small, with not a lot of seating but the staff are friendly and the coffee and food is great - we never went anywhere else after discovering this little haven. Don’t hesitate to book Harrison Modern - you will love your stay.

The bedrooms and bath are great as are the washing machine and dryer. We didn't get to use the patio as much as I would have liked but will do so on our next visit. Our favorite coffee shop is just up on 15th...Victrola. Great neighborhood...not a lot of noise...and lots of good services nearby. I highly recommend!

We had a lovely stay at the Harrision Modern. A neat, well-kept and elegantly decorated place, with all the amenities you'd need for a large group (we were a group of six including two children.) Basic needs, plus all the fancy restaurants you could possibly want to try out-- are all within a 10-20 minute walk. Green, quiet, pleasant neighborhood. Convenient to all major attractions. We enjoyed walking around the area. Be sure to walk down to the tiny but beautiful community garden on East Thomas, less than 10 mins from the apartment-- a hidden gem. PS: A rare apartment rental that does not charge a security deposit.

The neighborhood is peaceful, whether you're sitting on the long porch to watch the world go by or strolling through tree-lined streets to admire flowering gardens. A walk in any direction is rewarded with scenery, people, and shops. I highly recommend the Harrison Modern for its location, amenities, and furnishings. All of the arrangements -- key, parking, laundry, etc., -- were clearly explained and everything worked perfectly. Management is obviously competent but practically invisible; we had complete privacy. It was the perfect spot for Sisters' Week Off. We're already talking about next year!

We spent five days in Seattle and everyday was a joy because of this rental. It sits in a cozy safe area of Seattle (Capitol Hill area). It is roomy with a great patio. You are an easy three block walk to Broadway which has great resturants and night life as well as parks. There is on premises parking which is a must in Seattle. You can be downtown or in the Pikes Market area in ten minutes. Wonderful place to stay and much better than a hotel.

A fantastic place to stay in Seattle - brilliant location, easy parking, a really nicely appointed apartment and good value to boot. We all loved it!
