A lane in the heart of Rome, Castel Sant’Angelo just a little more than 100 meters away, the street of antique dealers (via dei Coronari) within a stone’s throw, and St. Peter’s Basilica, Piazza Navona and Piazza Farnese within a few hundred meters. This is Antiqua, a 17th century residence that is ideal for a holiday in the old town centre of Rome.
When walking out the main door of Antiqua, you immediately find yourself in the midst of the fascinating atmosphere of papal Rome. Long narrow lanes bordered by aristocratic palazzos. Public establishments of all kinds: from old trattorias and elegant restaurants to sushi bars and old-fashioned cafés. And workshops that keep the most ancient crafts alive, passed down from father to son: marble cutters, leather goods dealers, goldsmiths and restorers. And just a little further down the road, on the other side of Viale del Lungotevere, is the golden Tiber River with the pier from which you can take a boat for a ride down the river.
Furnished with antique furniture, terra cotta floors and coffered ceilings, “Antiqua” consists of a large double or queen-size bedroom, one single bedroom and one double bedroom, one bathroom, an equipped kitchen (dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, espresso coffee machine), a living room with TV and sofa seating three people, and a spacious dining area. It can accommodate 5-6 guests.

The tomb of the Roman emperor Hadrian, also called Hadrian's mole,[1] was erected on the right bank of the Tiber, between 135 AD and 139 AD. Originally the mausoleum was a decorated cylinder, with a garden top and golden quadriga. Hadrian's ashes were placed here a year after his death in Baiae in 138 AD, together with those of his wife Sabina, and his first adopted son, Lucius Aelius, who also died in 138 AD. Following this, the remains of succeeding emperors were also placed here, the last recorded deposition being Caracalla in 217 AD. The urns containing these ashes were probably placed in what is now known as the Treasury room deep within the building. Hadrian also built the Pons Aelius facing straight onto t
Campo dei Fiori is a rectangular piazza near Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy, on the border of rione Parione and rione Regola. Campo dei Fiori, translated literally from Italian, means "field of flowers." The name was first given during the Middle Ages when the area was actually a meadow. In the Roman dialect, the name of the piazza is written as Campo de' Fiori.[note 1] In Ancient Rome the area was unused space between Pompey's Theatre and the flood-prone Tiber. Though the Orsini established themselves on the south flank of the space in the 13th century, until the 15th century the square remained undeveloped. The first church in the immediate vicinity was built during the pontificate of Boniface IX (1389-1404), Santa
Piazza Navona is a city square in Rome, Italy. It is built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, built in first century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium.[1] The ancient Romans came there to watch the agones ("games"), and hence it was known as 'Circus Agonalis' (competition arena). It is believed that over time the name changed to 'in agone' to 'navone' and eventually to 'navona'. Defined as a public space in the last years of 15th century, when the city market was transferred to it from the Campidoglio, the Piazza Navona is a significant example of Baroque Roman architecture and art. It features sculptural and architectural creations: in the center stands the famous Font

Worked great for us

The property is simple yet clean and well kept. It was a great option for our family of four to have space to spread out and separate rooms for the two young children. The beds were comfortable and everything worked pretty well. It is definitely not luxurious, but everything was exactly as described. The neighborhood and proximity to sights were fantastic. The main negative was the sewage odor which often came from the bathroom (which probably can't be prevented given the age/location of the building, and I've experiened this in hotels as well). Also the wireless wasn't great - you had to sit near the unit to get a connection, probably due to thick walls. Being a third floor walk up was not so convenient either (esp with the strollers), but we knew this going in so were prepared. It was worth that minor inconvenience. All-in-all it was a great place to stay and I would definitely recommend it.

It's all good! Spacious; centrallly located; good internet; good value. What more can you ask? Our hosts were attentive and courteous and found a solution for a late flight back to the UK, even though the apartment was let from the afternoon. Many shops and restaurants nearby. Good bus services down to the main sights, though the apartment is within easy walking distance of the Castel sant'Angelo and the Vatican. The apartment is slightly tired aound the edges and the kitchen is less than modern, but has a charm about it and is more than adequately equipped for preparing coffee, salads, pasta, cold meals and eating bought-in Pizza or other take-aways. The apartment is on the third floor, so we had some good exercise climbing the steps up to the apartment, we well as up to the Cupola in St Peter's and the steps up to the Colosseo and the Spanish Steps and the steps up to ... I forget already. Our family of 4 (2 + 2 tenagers) would definitely return to Casa Antiqua, if we wanted to visit Rome again -- and yes, we did throw the coins in the Trevi to ensure our return...

My family of five just returned from our first trip to Italy. This apartment was better than described, and much larger than I expected. Centrally located, within walking distance of most major sites. My only complaint was that the TV wasn't set-up and I couldn't figure out how to get it to work - of course who needs TV when you're on vacation in Rome?

Hi, what should I write? The apartment is wonderful. It is big enough for four to six people (we are four family members) and has all the equipment to feel very comfortable (we stayed seven days). If Emanuele fix the coffee machine (it seems to be calcified) and the toilet (currently - October 2009 - it leaks some water), the apartment gets a ten out of ten. ;-) Most attractions of this great city are within easy walking distance (at most all of Vatican). Even a tour to Tivoli on a Sunday (no trains on Sunday) is easy arangeable with buses, because a lot (!) of bus lines have stops in a walking distance of three minutes. For people who like to cook for themselves (we do) all necessary shops (e. g. supermarket) are nearby (e. g. on the other side of the street). Last but not least, I must write, that Emanuele is very (!) helpful: For example he printed out our voucher for the Vatican museums, so that we don't had to wait in a loooong queue on a rainy day. Thanks again for that, Emanuele! After all, we can recommend this apartment! Kind regards, Thomas
