Color is everywhere in Mexico, streets and markets, food and flowers, homes and gardens. Our casita is no exception, and it clearly reflects the exuberance of rich colors freely combined in the unique Mexican way. This Mexican relationship to color is alive in our light-filled one bedroom casita, recently converted from a wing of our antique colonial home in the historical center of San Miguel. The main room with gas fireplace combines living/dining area, and kitchen with full sized fridge and stove. Sunshine beams in through skylights and two glass paneled double doors open out to your own private patio, the perfect place to enjoy meals alfresco. The bright sun filled bedroom with queen size bed has skylights for star gazing and a window facing the courtyard's fountain and flowers. The en-suite bathroom is decorated with a colorful hand painted ceramic sink. Casa Mandu is a large walled garden property containing the Casita, the owner's home, a historic adobe hacienda, and a two bedroom Garden Villa rental unit. As well, a guest suit in the main house with queen sized bed and attached bathroom is available for short term rentals for guests of our Casita or Garden Villa. The lush walled garden behind the main house is a quiet retreat for all. Our bubbling fountains will soothe away your cares as you read or relax in the shade of our 100 year old mesquite tree. Pomegranate, avocado, orange and lime trees also compliment the garden and butterflies and hummingbirds visit daily.
Maid service is provided daily and is included in the rental price.
Located in the Historic Center of San Miguel, a 3 block, level walk finds you in the main square. (El Jardin). Colonial architecture, historical landmarks, fine restaurants, cinemas, pharmacies, artisan markets, art galleries and supermarkets are all within easy walking distance.
The Canadian owner lives on site and can advise you on dining out, places to visit and arranging transportation to and from any of the area airports.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2006
After traveling the world and living in many countries - Canada, England, France, Italy, India and Brazil, I discovered San Miguel de Allende in Mexico in 2006 and decided to unpack my suitcases and settle down. The Spanish colonial architecture delights my eyes as I walk the cobblestone streets. The sun shines daily and the climate suits me to a T. There is an incredible expat community in this town, many are travelers like myself, artists and writers. I enjoy the banquet of cultural activities the town has to offer, live theater, music festivals and art openings. And San Miguel has one of the largest English libraries in Latin America. As an avid reader this is a big bonus for me. It took two years to convert my old adobe house with large garden into a guest house with three units. Renovating and decorating is my passion and I have built and remodeled homes in Canada, England, and France.
Why the Owner Chose Centro Historico
Our property is located in the heart of the historic center a few minutes walk to everything, yet the garden provides a quiet welcome oasis in which to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the lush vegetation. I wanted to be in the center of town, close to everything.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Right in the historical heart of San Miguel, I can be in the Jardin in a few minutes. There is no need to have a car since everything is close by. Walking the quiet cobblestone streets, lined with flowers, on the way to my favorite cafe reminds me always to be grateful that I chose San Miguel as home. Magic happens here on a daily basis, and at Casa Mandu I am right in the center of it all, but our garden oasis is the perfect place to relax with a book or just sit and watch the butterflies flit from flower to flower.

The Casita at Casa Mandu is the perfect place to stay, specially if it is your first visit to San Miguel de Allende. And this is so, not just because it is very conveniently located, beautifully decorated and extremely well kept, but also because Ruth is the perfect hostess. She will tell you about all the best places to visit and the most interesting and fun things to do. I just want to say Thank you Ruth! you made my holidays unforgettable. San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful town and Casa Mandu, the Casita, Ruth, Rufina and Cat Mandu a great team!

A better hostess doesn't exist! Ruth not only lived up to the many testimonials about her but surpassed them. We could not, would not haveenjoyed our time in San Miguel as much as we did without her guidance, advice, recommendations and discussions. We are thankful that she's not just a great hostess but one of the most energetic, interesting people we have ever met. We are very grateful for all that she did for us. We loved being at Casa Mandu and in fact have already booked to return next year.

Ruth's wonderful casita at Casa Mandu lived up to our expectations and more. It was perfect walking distance to everything in town and was warm, cozy, comfortable and immaculate. We loved the bright colors and especially enjoyed the private patio--perfect for reading or having a meal. Ruth was the perfect hostess--always willing to help, while respecting the privacy of her guests. We would definitely stay here again!

My wonderful 32 days at CASA MANDU

Yes, I stayed 32 days. I stayed in the Casita part of the time and in the Guest Suite part of the time, the owner, Ruth, bent over backwards to accommodate my long stay. I went down to decide if I wanted to move to San Miguel. I'm doing it, in fact have rented an apartment and will live there very soon! Choosing Casa Mandu had a lot to do with my decision. You can't choose a better location. You can take a short walk to the Jardin going south, or a short walk going north to Guadalupe, a very fun and safe neighborhood as well. You can also walk to Fabrica Aurora from Casa Mandu - everything is easy from there. Or take a taxi for $2.50 if you get tired. Can't beat that! I felt totally SAFE, walking around town, coming and going from Casa Mandu, any time of day or night. I also felt very "looked after" by the owner Ruth. Not only did she go to great pains to accommodate my long stay as I said, but arranged a 60th birthday party for me, inviting her friends that she knew I'd have a lot in common with! Unbelievable. Ruth answered every imaginable question immediately via email, and was so much fun and pleasant to be around. Her staff is wonderful and felt like family by the time I left. Since there are 3 guest choices to stay in, you can either see the other people or not, depending on your mood. I felt like I could either be totally alone to relax, or I could comfortably talk to the other guests, IF you could catch them:-) In San Miguel, everyone is out walking and enjoying everything the wonderful town has to offer. Endless choices. Fantastic restaurants, certainly no shortage of interesting things to discover. I just loved it and recommend this property highly. The photos do not do it justice. It's just beautiful - the landscaping, the decorating, and especially the friendly relaxed atmosphere. Go if you get the chance, you'll be so glad you did. San Miguel is a welcoming, safe town. I had no problems, the taxi drivers are nice, it felt totally comfortable. Guess I wouldn't be moving there if I didn't honestly feel this way. Casa Mandu is the perfect choice.

If I had complete control in designing a home away from home, I couldn't have made it any better than Casa Mandu. I wanted to relax and renew ...and the house, the garden, Ruth, and San Miguel were exactly what I was looking for. You won't be disappointed. As beautiful as they are, the photos only begin to express the peace and comfort of this wonderful place...I will be back.

Thank you for a lovely stay in the Casita of the Casa Mandu. San Miguel is an enchanting city and enjoying it like a local was made possible by your convenient location to city centro. You gave as splendid recommendations to restaurants, tours and entertainment. But the highlight of my visit was most certainly your home. Beautiful, comfortable and such a warm welcome. I hope to return soon.

Thanks so much for your gracious & accommodating hospitality. I fell in love with my casita...the colors, the gardens, the quietness, the skylights! The location was perfect. I was worried about traveling alone, but I felt safe & secure. What a treat to sleep with my window & doors open every night! Thanks also for patiently answering all my questions...from internet access to massage recommendations to where to eat squash blossoms! I will definitely be back!
