This privately owned spacious luxury villa is an ideal self catering holiday home furnished to a very high standard. The large, comfortable open plan lounge is complemented with TV/satellite and music system as well as a dining area for eight. Terraces surround lounge, dining and bedrooms providing stunning views overlooking the beach, sea and Castle of St. Joao de Arade. Heating and air conditioning units ensure all year round suitability and comfort. Expansive sandy beaches are on the doorstep and the unspoilt fishing village is a short stroll away. Fabulous for both adults and children. The heart of Ferragudo centres around the local square and cobbled streets, with good local restaurants in the village and along the quayside. Water sports, horse riding and golf are within close proximity, this location offers something for all members of the family. A car isn't necessary unless you wish to explore the countryside as amenities are all within a short walking distance.
The Algarve, Ferragudo: Situated to the south of Portugal, on the southwest tip of Europe, the Algarve has one of the world's most beautiful, unspoilt stretches of coast land and has been described as a unique jewel with the finest sandy beaches and the perfect sunny climate with a world-renowned reputation. The Algarve is one of Europe's sunniest spots and beautiful weather can be enjoyed throughout the year. In the winter months, when the sun goes down, if the evening is cool, then a nice log fire in the villa makes for a cosy setting. For some clients all that is needed is a low key relaxing holiday, for others the prerequisite will be a private pool and a large safe sandy beach for the children to play on, Ferragudo has something for everyone of all ages.
Ferragudo Village with its elevated structure and whitewashed houses, still provides all that's good about tradition and yet manages to meet the demands of its visitors without disruption. We are pleased to welcome back guests time and again.
Getting to Ferragudo: We have guests who arrive at both Faro Airport, Seville and Lisbon. The villa is about 45 minutes drive from Faro and we can organise for you to be met at the airport if you do not wish to hire a car. Car hire is not essential but collection is easily organised at the airport or can be arranged locally in Ferragudo. Some clients are met at the airport and taken to the villa and then hire a car locally for a few days only, if they wish to get out and about. For clients coming into Lisbon and Seville, the drive is about three hours and motorway most of the way. If you decide to drive, we provide information before you travel on directions to the villa.
Train is an option from Faro to Portimao or Ferrugudo but be aware that whilst the trains are traditional and clean in true Portuguese relaxed and chilled style, they do take a little time to get you to your destination.
There isn't a month that isn't beautiful in this location. In the winter months the bright sunny days are beautiful for long walks or for just sitting around in the village square having coffee and light refreshments. In the early months of the year there are often local festivals and it's a joy to see the local residents and their families enjoying the activity. Visitors are always made to feel welcome.
Golf Courses:
The villa is close to Alamos Golf; Alto, Gramacho Golf; Palmares, Penina, Pinta, Vale De Milho and Vale de Lobo golf resorts. We have clients who return to our villa year after year to play, some of them having other family members who prefer to go to the beach whilst the gofers go off blissfully knowing that they have as long as they need to play a round or two of golf. Some of the go.fing enthusiasts take their partners along with them to the golf resort and surprise their partners with lovely pampering sessions in the resort spa or beauty salon.
Activities for the family: The villa overlooks the beach and is within easy access of water sport facilities, a marina, zoos, marine parks, aqua playgrounds, diving, fishing, sailing, golf and horse riding. The beach is long and wide, the sea on the local beach is usually calm and safe for children to swim unlike some of the smaller beaches which surround the coastline. There are four excellent, family orientated beach cafes/bars offering good refreshments and sun umbrellas and lounge chairs if that is what is wanted. Beach volleyball and kite flying can also be seen frequently at the end of the day when the sun is going down. If one is really lucky, you will see a past Portuguese kite windsurfing champions in action on the Praire Grande beach, (the local beach).
From Ferragudo quayside, a small boat will take you for a few euros across to the Portimao marina where you can enjoy more restaurants, a luxurious beach facility or just a stroll along another beach boardwalk. Great for adults and children.

Fantastic Ferragudo!
Fantastic Ferragudo!

We had such a fantastic time at the villa! The week we spent there was the highlight of our month long trip. I so appreciated all of Janis' suggestions, notes and all the info about Ferragudo. It was really helpful. Janis was amazingly thorough and emailed me many times to ensure all of my queries were answered. It was almost as if I were her personal guest. :-) (even though she doesn't know me at all!) The villa was set up so nicely...we had everything that was needed....and the pool.... Wow....the pool was truly a huge plus. The kids absolutely loved it and my son, Pierce, actually learned to swim without flotation devices during our time there. The villa was clean, tidy and everything was orderly and easy to find. Ferragudo is such a charming village and we really enjoyed strolling down the narrow, windy, cobblestone pathways. Our kids loved exploring the village. The gorgeous beach was about a 5 minute walk and lots of fun for everyone. The playground was a huge plus. Not too far from the villa was one of our favorite restaurants, The Piano Garden, with the delightful garden views and delicious curries. The service was outstanding. As for activities, our young kids loved ZooMarine , in particular the dolphin show, where the emphasis was on human/dolphin interaction. We also drove to Silves...an incredible historical town. And we did a day trip to Evora to see the Cromeleque does Almendres, 100 + Standing Stones just outside the city. Wow! At 7000 years old, this magical place inspires the imagination. We hope to go back! I would recommend this villa to anyone. :-)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Every guest has a different experience to tell us. We love to hear how the children enjoy themselves as well as the adults and Pierce's time in the pool paid off, swimming without arm bands - wow!. A new experience for all and we hope to see you again sometime.

We had a really great holiday - the villa met all our needs and exceeded our expectations - it was well equiped and furnished and spotlessly clean. The housekeeper looked after us well. It was a great location for the kids - they loved the pool and the nearby beach. We regularly walked in to the village for lunch or dinner at some lovely restaurants which is just what we like to be able to do. When we didn't feel like going out the gas BBQ came in really handy. We have recommended the villa to our friends and it would definitely be used again by us if we ventured back to Portugal. Thank you and congratulations on having such a lovely holiday villa. Jo, BerkshireOwner response: Jo, again we're so happy that a family had a great holiday. Thank you.

We were a group of three couples escaping the Australian winter - and we thought the Algarve would be the perfect location. We were not disappointed with our choice. The location of this Villa is simply superb - no need for a car to reach beaches, restaurants, fantastic local bakeries, wine shops and community square. The accommodation is everything described, but you find the detail of what is provided reflects the thoughtfulness of the owners in ensuring that your holiday is truly hassle free. From the quality of the appliances, the kitchen gadgets, the beds through to the comprehensive, personal review of where to go, where to eat and what to see. We would not hesitate to recommend this Villa or this magical location to anyone - and we can't wait to get back!!Owner response: We always enjoy welcoming visitors to our villa from all over the world. We have had Australian guests before and despite being from a wonderful country, they have all enjoyed our villa and the Ferragudo location. I'm biased as our place is ideally located for the wonderful beaches, the village and restaurants without having to worry about transportation. It's an easy place to chill.

i would highly recommend this location and property to people wanting to have a relaxing fun filled family vacation. We were two families sharing the villa and it was just the perfect place and location. The spacious kitchen made it very easy for us to feed 6 kids (that includes a 1 yr and 3 yr). The beach nearby was very child friendly. We visited 3 other beaches but Praia Beach was the kids' favorite. The property description was very accurate, clean and well maintained. All appliances were working, just maybe the washing machine needs to be updated. Frankly speaking, it looked alot better in person than it was shown in the picture. Thank you Janis and Lurdes for making our 2012 summer holiday very memorable.Owner response: Thanks for the feedback, the beaches are wonderful for the children because they are so big and so safe and the icing on the cake is that the grown ups can enjoy food and drinks whilst watching them.

Our family absolutely loved our stay at the villa. The property was accurately described and fully met our expectations. It really was the highlight of our holiday in Europe. Thank you so much for accommodating us and for providing some initial refreshments and food. Much appreciated. The villa was meticulously clean and the the assistance provided by the property manager was fantastic and very helpful. Please pass on our appreciation to her. I would certainly highly recommend this villa to anyone who wants to enjoy a memorable holiday in Portugal. Thanks very much. John (Canada)Owner response: John, thank you for your very kind words. We do everything in our power to ensure that our clients enjoy their stay in our villa and are obviously very pleased when our efforts are recognised. To know that this was the highlight of your trip to Europe is really something.

The last time I visited the Algarve, I had everything I owned in a rucksack and my standards for accomodations were, in a word, simple. Forward 25 years and while my standards may not have changed much, my wife and the 8 family members I was planning for certainly had. It would be everyone I was travelling with first time to the Algarve and I was hoping, however improbable,it would be as special and beautiful as I remembered. I fortunately was not disappointed. Coming from New York City, I am a little skeptical of booking private accomodations through internet travel sites. I researched and researched and finally decided on this property, primarily based on the reviews of fellow travellers. Upon returning, I wanted to make it a point to return the favor and post a review because this place is really special. The pictures and descriptions are all accurate, but don't begin to do the villa, or the town, its' proper justice. The food was excellent in the local restaraunts, especially the one at the beginning of the street 'Ferragood' is on (forgot the name but you'll figure it out!). Best meal we had was bar-b-que poolside at the villa under the moon with local fish my brother-in-law caught on a fishing charter and a cooler of cold Sagres. We took a day trip to Lagos & Praia Dona Ana beach which was phenomenal along with a boat tour of the grottos. We also went to Marinha beach which CANNOT be missed and is only about a 15 minute drive from the villa. A stroll through the town of Ferragudo, not just by the water but on 'the hill' is well worth it as I found out one early morning when my 1 year old woke up a bit early. We were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise as we overlooked Ferragudo and Portimao from the cathederal atop the town. As I run out of room to type, I wish I had more to say about the villa, but it truly speaks for itself. It's clean, ideally situated, very spacious (indoor and out), well equipped and artfully decorated. A stop at the grocery store is all you need, the rest is there. Very important as well was the positive vibe given by the owner in all of our communications. Her hospitality and kindness is evident in the villa. The highest compliment I could give would be to say that the villa far exceeded my wife and in-laws expectations...and BELIEVE ME, that is no small feat! Whether you're looking for a home base to explore the Algarve or a spot to just relax and do nothing, this is the place. Can't wait to go back someday...Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: What a lovely review, thank you. It was a pleasure to liaise with you and I was so pleased that Ferragudo gave you a special holiday. I'm thrilled that the villa exceeded your wife and in-laws expectations, we all know the implications of getting that wrong!!!! Ryan, I really hope that we will have the chance to talk again if you ever return to the Algarve.

Celebrated my husbands 50th birthday in Ferragudo, with my family the villa was in a fantastic location. My son and his wife have visited exotic countries such as Thailand and Singapore and they both said that some of the local restaurants were on a par or even better and that they would certainly go back for a holiday. I would highly recommend the villa and the areaRecommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car.

My family stayed at this villa and enjoyed every single moment of the time we spent within the house as well as on the beach and in the village itself. The location is great for adults and children and if you do not wish to explore other parts of Portugal, it's a place which has everything on the doorstep. The villa views are fantastic and there's always something new to watch, be it spectacular yachts going by, local fishermen going out to sea or the local people going about their daily work and play. The villa is very well equipped and comfortable and is kept immaculately clean. Ferragudo village still has traditional charm and visitors and the locals come together in the local square, cafes and restaurants to eat, good traditional Portuguese food. The beach is a huge expanse and the little bars and restaurants provide good hospitality and food for those days when you just wish to relax and enjoy; something that's very easy to do in Ferragudo. If we weren't on the beach we were besides the swimming pool at the villa and again, very relaxing. The barbecues were a treat.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Julia, it was nice to have you back at the villa for the third time. I know your family always enjoy themselves so hopefully we will be in contact again at some future date. You asked about the winter months, with the pool heated and mostly bright sunny days, it's still a nice place to visit.
