This beautiful home sits on a high bluff on the Eastern side of Carson Valley, with unsurpassed panoramic mountain views. Set in 5 acres and very private, it has attractive landscaping all around the house.

The home itself has a delightful Western and Spanish flair, encompassing approximately 3,000 square feet, that includes a 'great room' concept with an enclosed patio, and separate sun porch.

Warm ceramic tile and hardwood floors complement a stunning pavilion-style, open beam ceiling in the great room, which has a large fireplace and opens up to the spacious kitchen. Designed by a gourmet cook, it boasts both gas stove and electric stove and grill.

French doors lead out onto an enclosed glass patio to the west, perfect for watching the sun set over the Sierra Nevada mountains.

To the east is a lovely sunroom with privacy and stillness and views over the hills towards the Pinenut mountains, where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch to catch the sun.

This is a place where wild horses come to play, occasionally grazing only 100 yards from the property; where hawks hover on the updraft from the valley; and where rabbits and quails are at home. If you are lucky you may hear the distant howl of the coyotes at night.

To the East of the house you can pick up trails to enjoy long walks over the hills towards the Pine Nut Mountains, and on a winter night you can see the lights from the Heavenly Ski Resort in the high Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the entire valley with its glittering lights in the villages below.

Down in the valley you may also visit David Walley's fabulous Hot Spring Resort, get a massage, enjoy the wonderful restaurant, swim or sit in the hot pools and meet locals and other vistors where you can swap stories and make new friends.

For more strenuous exercise, Minden has a magnificent public swimming facility with an Olympic-sized pool and water slides.

Within 30 minutes, there are beautiful golf courses, ballooning, horseback riding and wonderful hiking trails in the mountains and around Lake Tahoe. The nearby village - only 3.5 miles away - has many excellent restaurants, quaint small shops as well as three expansive supermarkets and is only half an hour's drive from Carson City, the Capital of Nevada.

For the winter sports enthusiasts, there is a multitude of choices of Ski Resorts all the way around Lake Tahoe - one of the most beautiful Lakes in the world - at 6000 feet; blue and ice free all year round.

Well behaved dogs are allowed in the house.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1994

I grew up in Denmark and was educated in Denmark and England. I came to this country in 1980 when I married my American husband. I worked in the public Health Care Sector, first in Denmark, then in this country where I was a social worker with the Hospice organization. I am the author of the book: Days of Goodbyes. In 1994 my husband and I built our dream home in Gardnerville and retired here. After his death I have decided to return to my home on Cape Cod and can therefore rent out my Gardnerville home.

Why the Owner Chose Gardnerville

This beautiful home was not meant to be a vacation home, though many of our family and friends from this country and from Europe have enjoyed vacations here. But after my husband's death I no longer want to live in two homes and therefore return to my home on the East Coast where my children live.

The Unique Benefits of this House

This is a very pleasant house to live in and the views from all windows are magnificent. The air is clean and dry and we have about 300 sunny days a year. There are wonderful hikes in the hills and mountains. The house sits on 5 acres and provides privacy. The villages of Gardnerville and Minden are 3.5 miles from the house. There are nice restaurants and a splendid Swim and Fitness Center.

Beautiful, Comfortable Home with a Fabulous View (Needs a Few Minor Fixes)

Guest: Ray (Honolulu, Hawaii)
Date of Stay: 12/30/11 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

Large, comfortable and wonderfully furnished, this is a great place to stay. Quiet. Impeccably clean. Four minor problems that can be easily addressed: 1. Bring bottled water to drink and cook with. The water from the tap has a strong chemical taste. 2. The blinds in the master bedroom should be replaced. (One is missing entirely.) 3. The gas stove in the kitchen is usable, but the igniters on the three burners you aren't using will go off on their own. That's a little disconcerting. 4. The kitchen pots, pans, knives and utensils could use a refresh. My wife and I stayed for a week and it was a joy. Look for the rabbits and quail in front of the kitchen window!

Perfrect House for Family Reunion and Niece's Graduation Party

Guest: Angi (Southern California)
Date of Stay: 06/02/11 Review Submitted: 06/19/11

We recently stayed at Ragnhild's home in Gardnerville NV with my husband and I sharing the king bedroom and my mother and father taking the bedroom with the twin beds. We were all very comfortable. The house is clean and very spacious with excellent views of the Sierra Nevadas. The kitchen is amazing and we enjoyed it as we celebrated my niece's graduation, fixing a wonderful meal and enjoying it at the huge dining room table. We spent the evenings laughing and talking in the living area. There are two large enclosed porches to enjoy as well. The Carson Valley is beautiful and the house is close (1/2 hour drive or so?) to beautiful Lake Tahoe, also to Carson City, Virginia City (gold mining town) and other beautiful lakes and rivers tucked in the Sierras in both NV and CA. We love this area, coming every year to fish the Walker River to the south of Gardnerville in CA. This is the first time we rented a house in the area and Ragnhild treated us very well, promptly answering all my questions and meeting all my needs.

Owner response:It is always a great pleasure to hear from guests that they have enjoyed my home. I am very greatful to hear from guests and I thank you all for feelig at home and taking great care of this lovely place. Ragnhild

A Fantastic Family Getaway

Guest: Linda from Massachusetts (Massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 08/12/08 Review Submitted: 05/31/10

This was the perfect hideaway house for our family vacation. We used this beautiful and comfortable home for our base of operations in the Lake Tahoe area. Over eight days, we were able to go boating, hiking, horseback riding, ski diving, bike riding, all within a twenty to thirty minute drive of this enchanting mountain getaway. At night, we watched the Olympics in the open living room and took starlit walks in the hills around the house. The house is remarkably private and it feels like you are the only ones living in this mountainous wonderland. The views are spectacular and they excited us every morning to go out and experience the rugged beauty around us. We also took advantage of a spectacular spa only fifteen minutes away from the home. Of all the places our family has stayed, this home has served as the most relaxing getaway for all of us. The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen was well configured to allow us to cook a hearty family meal. The area is magical and the views from the windows make you feel like you are living in the midst of an exciting adventurous getaway. Our boys are getting older and they have often felt like they want more space when they travel with us, but this home gave us space to both spend time as a family and do our own things. My husband could play golf while I was at the spa and my boys were ski diving. We could then meet back at home base and have dinner and watch a movie. It was the best family vacation we have had because of the amazing opportunities in the Lake Tahoe area and the beautiful home we were staying in. I give this place my highest recommendation.

Great house and vacation spot

Guest: Phil Q (Clearwater, Florida)
Date of Stay: 03/04/09 Review Submitted: 05/13/10

This was truly a great house for our vacation - the house was immaculate, very light and spacious, and the views are spectacular! The area is fantastic in terms of nature and activities, with Lake Tahoe close by, woods and mountain treks. We went to the hot springs spa that is about 15 minutes from the house and had a great day there. One day wild horses came within a few hundred yards of the house - not something we have experienced anywhere else. Sitting on the top of a hill, this home is simply a great place

A really excellent place to stay and the weather has been fabulous. Nice and quiet, a comfortable house with a very welcoming host; just looking out of the windows at the spectacular views in the morning was a great way to start the day. There was lots of visiting wildife in the garden to relax and watch in the sun - rabbits, quails and other birds as well as a few drunken bees buzzing around the apple blossoms. The Heavenly Gondola ride up the mountain in Tahoe showed us more great scenery and even now (in April) a few late skiers were getting the top of the mountain to themselves. It was very tempting to hire some skis and go for a quick run. The furthest we travelled was an hour to Reno to the famous Peppermill Casino, but otherwise we never went more than 30 minutes in any direction for more views, restaurants, shopping malls and outlets. There was more to see and do than we attempted, as we mainly wanted somewhere pleasant to relax, but with the option to go somewhere interesting if the fancy took us. When the mood did take us, we simply searched for our destination in the GPS we hired with the car, fastened our seat belts, and set off on our adventures. Highly recommended and we'll be back again in another season to see how it changes.
