Shanty Creek is an absolute Winter and Summer wonderland. It offers so much more than other Michigan or Midwest ski and golf resorts. There are two ski resorts with over 47 runs of fun and adventure. You'll find terrain for beginning to advanced skiers and snowboarders, a terrain park, 30 kilometers of groomed cross county skiing, an incredibly fun tubing hill for the whole family, sleigh rides, and snowmobiling. The resort has received five #1 rankings in "Skiing in the Midwest" including weather and snow, dining, value, lodging, and Apres-skiing. There are four award-winning golf courses for every level of the game. You'll find many amenities for families at the resort including swimming pools, sauna, skiing, tubing, golf, ice skating, spa, and health club. There are daycare and youth programs available during the golf and ski seasons. Wildlife such as deer, turkey, raccoon, and fox are often seen on the resort property. That's a quick overview of what Shanty Creek Resorts have to offer. Our vacation home is located right in the middle of it all.
This Northern Michigan area has much to offer for your vacationing pleasure. Among the Chain-of-Lakes, the absolutely gorgeous Torch Lake, the "third most beautiful lake in the world" is located just 10 minutes away as well as Lake Bellaire, Intermediate Lake, and Clam Lake. Grand Traverse Bay is also only a 15-20 minute drive. These all-sports lakes offer it all. Swimming, water skiing, kayaking, sailing, power boating, and incredible fishing. There are boat, pontoon, and jet ski rentals available. You'll also find hiking trails, backpacking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Fifteen minutes to the East is East Jordon and the Jordon River Wilderness Area. The Jordon River is among Michigan's cleanest and coldest rivers in the state. A federally designated National Wildlife and Scenic River that supports some of the best fly-fishing for trout in Northern Michigan. Being a heavily forested area our Fall color is spectacular! There's an explosion of reds, oranges, yellows and greens as the Fall season moves us closer to Winter. As the saying goes here, "It's always a beautiful day a Shanty Creek!"
For the golfer, there are over 50 golf courses within an hours drive. Our local, on-property courses include The Legend, an Arnold Palmer design; The Weiskoff Course at Cedar River Village, and The Summit and Schuss courses. The Hawks Eye and Chief Golf Courses are located adjacent to our own property courses. There are also professional driving ranges and golf lessons available.
Many levels of entertainment are only minutes away from our vacation home. Shopping is a short distance away in the quaint villages of Alden, Elk Rapids, and Charlevoix. Also, Traverse City, home of the National Cherry Festival, is just 45 minutes away. There are casinos located in TC and nearby Petoskey. The region offers many restaurants, pubs, brewerys, and wineries. There are three wonderful restaurants within 5 minutes of our vacation home!
Our 1800 square foot, non-smoking, pet free home is located in Schuss Village of Shanty Creek Resorts. The upstairs open living area has a vaulted ceiling and a new fully furnished kitchen. Also upstairs, there are two bedrooms and a bath with shower. The lower level has a family room, two bedrooms, a full bath with a two person Jacuzzi tub and a separate walk-in ceramic shower with 4 shower heads and a seating area on two sides. A Futon provides additional sleeping in the lower level family room. Upstairs, there is additional sleeping available on a queen size sleeper couch. There is a TV in the living and family rooms with DVD and VCR. There is also a small library of VCR/DVD tapes. The upstairs is air conditioned in the Summer. There is a large screened in porch area off the kitchen and a wrap-around deck for entertaining. Outside, we have a fire-pit, a small landscape pond and waterfall, and gardens that grace the property. There is off-street parking for up to six cars and/or recreational toys--boat, snowmobile, jet ski. Parking may be limited in the winter depending on snow fall. Be sure to view the pictures.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this vacation home. We have 5 children, all under 12. There was more then enough room for us all and very well stocked with everything we needed. Plenty of towels, seating, even laundry detergent! This would be a great haven at any time of the year.
Recommended for:Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

This place exceeded our expectations and it was actually the highlight of our trip as the fish were not biting good at all! It was very clean and comfortable for our crew. We had 9 guys together under the same roof and had plenty of room. The owner was very easy to work with and made the rental process hassle free. The outdoor area was great with the fire pit and the nice wooded lot. The location was perfect for us with access to all of the surrounding lakes (Torch, Bellaire, Intermediate, Skegemog). The house itself worked well as it had a nice open living room/dining room with a wood burner where we could all hang out for the evening. I would definately recommend this place for anyone wanting to visit the area.
