Lovely open-concept loft, an easy walk to downtown Charlottetown for restaurants and shopping. We enjoyed the comfortable beds, great kitchen and artsy environment. We were pleasantly surprised to find something this elegant and chic on PEI! We found the space well-equipped and especially loved the kitchen. Ole and Karen were friendly and helpful hosts. A truly unique and beautiful space. We hope to return!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed at the Y Loft from 13-17 July 2011 and had a lovely time. It was great having so much dramatic, well thought out space for ourselves and for our guests. Vastly superior to staying in a hotel. We had my wife's 60th birthday dinner party for a dozen friends and family. The kitchen is a full, proper kitchen with excellent, full size appliances, much appreciated by ourselves, and by the caterers of our party. The Y Loft's location is great -- we walked just about everywhere. Cow's Ice Cream is not to be missed; and Lot Thirty Restaurant at 151 Kent Street is remembered for the excellent atmosphere, food and service. Unlike the previous commenter we had no problems with noise during our rather long stay. The rooftop patio was nice place to relax and chat before going out for dinner. The bedroom area upstairs was clean and well equipped, with a very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom. The was another bathroom downstairs for the guests. The listing was accurate, the property was well maintained and clean. We will certainly try to get reservations at the Y Loft when return to Charlottetown.Did you find this review helpful? Condo is dirty and messy, unfinished, badly designed and inappropriately furnished. No cable on TV, no audio system. Had to clean out the fridge and the cupboards of leftover food from previous occupants. Stove doesn't work well. Very noisy - there is a 2 inch gap under the entrance door, so you hear everything in the hallway. Garage entry door is adjacent to the condo, and you can hear it every time it opens and closes. Good party condo, not so good for peaceful vacation...Owner response: This is one of the few contemporary design spaces in town, and usually that is why people love the space. We live here when we do not have guests, so it does not have that empty feel of an ordinary hotel room. There are books, art, plants etc. and as we spend a lot of time cooking (our son is a chef) the kitchen is stuffed with ingredient and kitchen utensils, and the fridge is usually stocked with eggs , mayonaise, butter, jam and mustard. The stove is a 5 burner 40" gas top stove with two electric ovens, and while one burner has to be lit by hand, most will find it above average. Any cook will feel right at home. The garagedoor was noisy and we had it fixed as installing sound proofing on the entry door. Our space is TV free but we do have wireless internet

My husband and I stayed for a week in this converted loft. An interesting space in a great location...able to walk all over the city, close to restaurants, grocery store and in a safe neighbourhood. Unfortunately, the building is still under construction and this unit is extremely noisy. Also, the parking garage is underneath the living room and every time a resident leaves, we can hear the garage door open and close. It's a nice place, but we didn't get much sleep.Recommended for: Tourists without a car.
Owner response: Unfortunately our next door neighbours were installing their new kitchen when our guests were staying with us. It was also raining every day that week, so more than the usual daytime was spent in our loft-just when the contractors were working. The contractors are now long gone and with them the noises they made and please bring sunny weather when you come. The Owner

About: We are architect(Ole)/landscape architects(Karen) with an interest in revitalizing the downtown. Ole is from Denmark and Karen is from Ottawa. We came to PEI 35 years ago and loved it here.
Why Charlottetown:
The Old YMCA attracted us by its lofty ceilings, grand spaces and the many hardwood floors. We love ballroom dancing and immediately imagined ourselves here. The Y was a much loved building used by almost every Islander some times in their life, but had closed down and sat empty for 2 years before we bought it and started to renovate it.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Our loft is in the western end of the old gym and still has the original hardwood floors. The dining table and kitchen table as well as the stairs are made of the bowling alley that used to be in the basement, which is now the indoor parking garage. There are 18 lofts in all, each one unique and different.
