At the end of Murphy Blvd, 19 miles east of Hayward, Wisconsin, the Spider Lake Lodge sprawls on a hilltop amid tall pines at the north end of historic Big Spider Lake. Built of hand hewn tamarack and cedar logs from the surrounding forest in 1923, the Lodge is filled with the spirit of a rich history since its beginning as a fishing camp built by Ted Moody and his crew of Native American craftsmen and lumbermen. Inspired art and architecture of the time is prevalent throughout the Lodge. Exacting craftsmanship abounds in the hand cut wood chinking between the logs, the massive stone fireplaces and the gleaming hardwood floors. The lodge offers eight guest rooms, each with a queen size bed, various amenities and its own distinctive atmosphere. Many antiques and artifacts from Ted Moody's original fishing camp remain in the Lodge today.
Summer breezes gently waft their way up from the lake cooling the rooms throughout the Lodge. Autumn's brilliant show of color reflect and dance on the crisp, clear water. Winter winds usher in cross-country skis, flannel, fleece and our legendary "lake effect" snow. Sunrise and moonrise from the northshore are spectacular, so bring your camera or sketchbook.
Enjoy a hearty, home-cooked breakfast, prepared by our staff, or take over the kitchen for your own savory creations. The kitchen is complete with the original cast iron 10 burner cookstove and various vintage appliances.
Plan your day to enjoy some of the many activities available in the area, or simply spend the day curled up by the fire with a good book or a daydream. Several excellent area restaurants and supper clubs promise culinary delight for your dining pleasure. After dinner, return to the Lodge and cozy up to the crackling fire with family or friends. Sit and chat, read, or watch the moon and stars glisten on the lake, far from the city lights.
Whether you are tempted by outstanding fishing and timeless rustic surroundings or romance and adventure, this authentic northwoods retreat awaits your arrival. Here, there is no time..... |
