The weekend we spent at Janis’ Cottage was just like an extension of our home: clean, comfortable beds, a clean well supplied bathroom and a clean and very functional kitchen. All electronics were working: TV’s, stereo, etc. The neighborhood was friendly and we felt very safe. The large landscaped area allowed us the peace and quiet that one might desire. We consider this a great value considering the proximity to shopping, restaurants and the Biltmore and other area attractions. And of course you have an on site hostess who is knowledgeable of the area and gives “can’t miss directions to anywhere you want to go….like your personal concierge. We had a blast! Wow! What a great place to stay. Your cottage is super clean and equipped with everything you would need living in a home. It's cozy and nicely decorated with the touch of your antiques. Thanks for all the information about the Biltmore Estate as awell as providing us the convenience of purchasing the tickets from you. Your directions for gas, downtown, Biltmore and more were deeply appreciated and eliminated stressful moments trying to find these locations. Thanks for treating us like a friend! AWESOME weekend in Asheville at "The Cottage". Excellent location. Very close to the Biltmore and easy access to other points of interest. My sister and I had a very enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing weekend at the cottage. It is very nicely decorated, clean and comes equipped with everything you need. Janis, our hostess, was fantastic. Very helpful and the nicest person you could meet. She has available tons of info on what to see & do in the area. A beautiful hike to one of the many waterfalls in the area and a visit to the little town of Black Mountain is a must. We will definitely make this our "home away from home" again soon. Janis was a wonderful hostess. She gave us all kinds of leads on what to see and where to go. Make sure you go and see Triple Falls while you are on your visit! It will be seen in the new movie, Hunger Games, this summer. It makes for a great hike and a chance to see North Carolina in all it's splendor...completely satisfied with the 'Little Cottage" and the sights of NC.

This was the first time my fiancee and I had stayed anywhere other than a hotel and didn't really know what to expect. We arrived fairly late on Friday night and Janis came right over and showed us around and was uber-welcoming and nice. She had put together an awesome book that showed restaurants and things to do in the surrounding areas that came in very handy. We had a very relaxing stay and had plenty of room to cook dinner and watch tv, play games, etc. We found everything to be very clean and well maintained and had everything we needed in terms of incidentals. We definitely enjoyed our stay and would recommend it without reservation!

We had such a great visit! We loved staying at your cottage. So much cozier than any hotel room. The bed was so comfortable and we really enjoyed the kitchen and having plenty of room in the bathroom. The location is perfect! This was mine and my boyfriend's first trip to Asheville. We got a little lost on the way there. We were only miles from the house and Janis stayed on the phone with us until we found our way. Despite the weather, we had such a great time! This house was adorable and Janis was wonderfully helpful. We will definitely return to this house the next time we have an opportunity to get to Asheville!

We came to visit family. We’re glad we stayed here because it was like having our own home in Asheville. We too, could entertain and have family over for dinner. Thank you for being the consummate host!!! We love your cottage and will be back. Having you next door was convenient, though we needed nothing from you because you cottage is so well stocked and comfortable. We’re off now to the Catawba Falls and then home….but can’t wait for an opportunity to return! We've been to Asheville a few times before, but this visit we got to see parts of town we'd never visited, such as West Asheville and the River Arts district. We were surprised at how compact the area really is and how easy it was to get there. It was very peaceful to sit out front with a glass of wine and the evening and breakfast in the morning. My wife and I spent a week in Janis' house and can recommend it without reservation. It's clean, cozy, quiet and very convenient. The home has everything you'll need, and Janis is always available if you have any questions. It's a great value, more relaxing than staying in some generic hotel, plus she's quick with the refund of the deposit - we got ours two days after checking out. What a great week we had in Asheville. This is our 2nd visit to Asheville and I'm sure glad we rented from Janis this time. She is very friendly, yet respects your privacy. You can ask Janis anything at any time and she will get you what you need. The home is clean and very well stocked. There were four of us in the house and we had enough room where we didn't feel on top of each other. The home is secluded on a quiet street, but close enough to where all the action is. Downtown Asheville has many great restaurants and if you love art, you will will love the River Arts District. Black Mountain is another great town to visit. Of course the Biltmore Estate is great and the Blue Ridge Pkwy. The Grove Park Inn and Spa is also a must. There is so much to do that you have to come to Asheville again and again. My wife and I stayed for 10 days in April, 2011. The home is clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. Janis (owner) is a wonderful hostess. She's knows Asheville and the surrounding area very well. It seemed that Janis took joy in helping us plan our itinerary. I told her what we were looking for and she was spot on with her suggestions. I highly recommend going on a few of the many, many waterfall hikes in the area.

We stayed here for a long weekend and it was great! The owner went out of her way to meet our schedule, needs and wants ---- I am confident she does that for all her guests as well. The location is ideal...beautiful setting and in town convenience. The kitchen is one of the better stocked in my experience and she is quick with return deposits. All the details have been thought out and I truly would not hesitate to highly recommend your staying here. We had such fun...and there is soooo much Asheville has to offer...that we will be returning and staying right here each time. Clean, comfortable and convenient.....enjoy!

Charming And Comfortable Country Cottage In The Mountains

There are many reasons why there are 90 five-star reviews of this lovely mountain home! This is a very comfortable 2 bedroom cottage. The owner has decorated it in charming country cottage decor -- perfect for a mountain retreat. It is located on a very quiet 100% residential street near the Biltmore estate. It is well-situated for getting easily to any location in the Asheville area. The owner, Janis, has made sure that the cottage is fully equipped for comfort. She has provided expanded cable (much appreciated, since many VRBO homes have only basic cable or even the dreaded converter box masquerading as cable), high speed wireless internet, and a completely equipped and roomy kitchen - down to a large variety of spices should you decide to do your own cooking. We have stayed in some VRBO homes where the mattresses and bedding leave much to be desired. Not here; Janis has provided a very comfortable mattress and high-quality bedding. The master bedroom is very large and looks out over a lovely backyard. Another thing a potential renter should know is that this house is one of the cleanest we have ever stayed in. Janis goes beyond the call of duty in terms of spotless accommodations. Finally, Janis herself is another reason to stay here. She is ultra-willing to do anything to make her guests comfortable. An added plus is that she lives next door to the property, and she is completely willing to spend her personal time to help her guests in any way possible. You won't find many VRBO owners who are as accommodating as she is! Overall, if you are in the Asheville area for business or pleasure, you won't go wrong choosing this property for your stay.

I stayed at the cottage for 2 months while I explored Asheville and wish I could have stayed longer. The cottage was located on a very quiet street in East Asheville with easy access to downtown and other points of interest via nearby parkways. The location of the cottage was perfect. The cottage itself had all amenities including laundry, fully equipped kitchen, TVs with cable and large selection of videos, WIFI (which I used often), unlimited use of a land line w/answering service. It was nicely decorated and furnished and the bed was VERY comfortable with high quality linens, throws, comforters. Janis was a gem ! From the start of my trip to the end, communications with Janis was excellent. She was available when needed and was helpful and friendly. No need to look any further... Janis' cottage is the best !!

My boyfriend and I spent New Year's weekend in Janis' basement apartment and we couldn't have made a better choice. What good luck it was for us to find it. It is a beautiful, romantic little apartment that is close to everything you could want in Asheville, but you feel like you're miles away from it all. Super clean and well stocked, comfy bed, nicely decorated, and you won't find better hosts than Janis & Rich. They are wonderful folks who really know their hometown and are delighted to share their information. I recommend it over a plain ol' hotel room any day.

We came up for a long weekend of music, shopping, and relaxing; and this was the perfect place for all three. The house is very convenient to Biltmore Village and just a short drive to downtown, yet you are on a quiet peaceful country lane. The house is immaculately clean and Janis is the most thoughtful host (she exceeds just owner), stocking the kitchen with coffee, welcoming snacks, and every kitchen utinsil you would ever need! The house is decorated with beautiful antiques, yet you know they are meant to be used, not just for looks. Janis also provides a thick notebook of things to do, places to eat, etc. and if you give her ideas of what you'd like to do she will offer suggestions...your own personal travel agent! She is so nice and makes you feel so welcome that you feel like you've known her forever. We have stayed in VRBO's all over the country but this is the only one we've ever thought of returning to. We will definitely stay here again!

There are so many choices of places to stay in Asheville that it can be confusing. But you can stop looking now. This is it. The house is even more charming than it looks, and unbelievably convenient to the Biltmore and everything else. What everyone is saying about Janis and the cottage are all absolutely true. She has thought of everything in this house from the fine linens to the kitchen furnishings and the things most places do not supply, like coffee, condiments, foil, snacks, etc. She will drop by to let you know where everything is, show you "the black book", make some suggestions to fit your interests, etc. then she disappears. No hovering by the owner, only very helpful information. The place is also immaculate and restored charmingly well. We three ladies were there to celebrate a milestone birthday and to take in the Candelight Evening at the Biltmore and the Gingerbread houses at the Grove Park. We almost stayed at the Grove Park Inn which was running a special. So glad we didn't. It was wonderful to visit both tourist places and return back "home" to our own private, uncrowded cottage, sit on the couch in front of the large picture window and watch the snow fall while we toasted our friend's birthday. All three of us are talking about returning with other friends and family. Thank you, Janis. It was perfect.

What a great place to celebrate and for us it was our 50th anniversary. We searched and found the perfect place to stay while enjoying the many sights of the greater Asheville area. Janis from the first contact made every effort to provide us with great info and followed though on her promises. We have traveled the world but this was the most COMPLETE PACKAGE we have ever encountered. The cottage was spotless, the sheets were DEVINE and all the thoughful touches including a wonderful array of snacks. Janis is the hostess that every traveler dreams of and rarely finds. We had such a wonderful time that we decided to extend our stay with Janis and lucky for us she had just completed a wonderful one bedroom apartment on her property and we moved in for another week's stay. The cozy apartment has a great ground level back porch overlooking the lovely grounds where nature abounds and the birds sing their tunes. The apartment is cozy and so inviting with a side patio where we enjoyed our breakfasts and occasional glass of wine. The cottage is located on a dead end quiet well kept street, the perfect place to be centered after enjoying the many sights and great cafe's in the area. Several of our favorite eateries, Chapalla [close to the cottage] Salsa, which has such creative food, 12 Bones, the greatest ribs and the Veranda in Black Mountain. Oh, yes and the Spice Thai in Hendersonville. Janis was very helpful with directions to the many interesting sights. Lake Lore was one of the highlights. We highly recommend the pontoon guided tour on the lake, the myths and tales are fasincating. If you love waterfalls, rafting, hiking etc Janis provides one with all the info and with excellant directions. Janis, your out going personality and true desire to accomendate the guests makes one feel special and for us we extended our stay and loved every minute and will definitely be returning to give Asheville serious consideration as a future home.

My friends and I had a great visit to Asheville and Janis's lovely cottage. As the realtors say, "Location,location, location." The house was great, well-equipped, and maintained, and near sights, restaurants, shopping, etc. Janis is a great hostess who helped us with tickets to Biltmore, directions to all the places we wanted to go. I would highly recommend her house.

We had a wonderful stay at this cute little cottage. It was very well maintained, spotless and had everything one could ask for: from high-speed internet down to a complete array of condiments. The owner was very friendly, accessible and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The home is at the end of a quiet street yet near to most of the necessities. Would recommend to most anyone and will look this home up again the next time we are in the area.

Our family of six and a 2 month old grandchild vacationed in Asheville and stayed at Janis' lovely rental. We enjoyed ourselves so much mainly because the rental experience was so easy. This was my husbands and my first trip to Asheville and how fortunate we were to choose this property. Thank you Janis for making our first visit to Asheville a most memorable one. Your cottage is charming, very comfortable, immaculate and well represented on your website. Were we to give it “stars” it would surely be a “5” in its category. From the initial correspondence to the speed with which we received our deposit back - a completely flawless transaction. Janis is a most gracious hostess and pays attention to every detail. There are maps and menus as well as brochures for all of the wondrous sites to see in and around Asheville. If you can’t find what you want (very doubtful) just ask Janis and you’ll get all the information you need. There are toiletries in the bathroom should you forget yours, there are snacks and coffee in the kitchen. The bed is as comfortable as any you would find in an upscale hotel and the sheets feel like silk. Oh, almost forgot free internet connection – a plus because we never travel without our laptop. The fact that the cottage is located minutes from just about every point of interest in Asheville, it epitomizes the saying “Location, Location, Location”. To summarize our stay, it just doesn’t get much better than this. We plan to return next fall to see the magnificent colors and our charming hostess!

I was very impressed with the quality of the accommodations. The house is as pictured and described on HomeAway. It has a fully equipped kitchen, is beautifully decorated throughout (including the yard), and is very clean and well-maintained. The property is very well located...just a few minutes from about any place in Asheville. The owner provided excellent customer service and is available and able to answer questions about the area. There is an extensive library of brochures for those who want to see the sites and a great front porch and vista for those who just want to put their feet up and relax. I would recommend it to any of my friends an family! A happy place to stay!
