There is a glorious panoramic view of the mountains from the top of the drive and from high points around the property. The Pyrénées, and Andorra, are about one and a half hours’ by car, the coast about one and a quarter hours’ (Narbonne) and Toulouse one hour.
St. Gaudéric is a rural hamlet. The nearest shopping and amenities are just eight kilometres away in Mirepoix – a medieval town of great charm possessing a noted Cathedral, wooden couverts and a popular Monday market. The largest wine-producing region in France, Langedoc Rouissillon is noted not only for very drinkable red, rose and white wines, but also Blanquette de Limoux – a delicious sparkling wine older in origin than Champagne. Other local specialties include a huge variety of cheeses, foie gras, asparagus, melons, garlic, honey (and soaps), duck meat products and cassoulet, to mention just a few.
