HISTORIC THEXTONDALE HOMESTEAD ON THE MADISON
Brief description: Originally built in the early 1900's, this unique stone ranch house was fully restored in 2006 and 2007 to its original beauty. Gorgeous wood floors, restored original woodwork trim throughout the home, historic style lighting fixtures and tasteful artwork are just some of the details that add to the overall sense of history at the property. The authenticity and quality of the restoration has allowed the Thextondale Homestead to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Stone House and accompanying Overlook Cabin are located on an authentic, working Montana ranch several thousand acres in size. Guests staying at Thextondale will enjoy the use of a huge yard about two acres in size immediately surrounding the Stone House and Overlook Cabin. In addition, guests enjoy access to approximately 100 pristine acres of the ranch via walking trails and foot bridges leading down to nearly a mile of fishing access and wildlife viewing along the Madison River and Blaine Spring Creek. The bird and wildlife watching, as well as the fly-fishing opportunities, are truly second-to-none!
General location: The Historic Thextondale Homestead is located approximately seven miles south of Ennis, and fifty miles north of West Yellowstone - one of the main entrances to Yellowstone Park. There is an airport in West Yellowstone, as well as in Bozeman, which is about an hour and twenty minutes from the home.
Bedrooms and bathrooms: The home has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. On the main level of the home is one of the bedrooms, with a luxurious king size bed and attached bathroom. This bathroom is accessible from the living area of the home also. Upstairs, guests will find another bedroom with an equally luxurious king size bed and attached private bathroom. Across the hall is the third bedroom, which is set up with two queen size beds and attached full bath with a walk-in style shower.
Overlook Cabin: Additional space for relaxing, as well as sleeping space for one or two more guests is available in the Overlook Cabin just out back and across the yard from the Stone House. This sweet little cabin has been reconstructed from an old log tack barn. It includes an open living space with two comfy sofas and a harvest style dining table for meals, playing games or just re-hashing the day's adventures. A small, propane fired stove in the corner can be used to warm things up on a chilly evening. There is a great gas grill out on the spacious wood porch - since the Overlook Cabin is the perfect place for barbecues, viewing the magnificent Madison Range while overlooking the creek and river below.
Kitchen: This wonderful kitchen has all the modern conveniences - yet still retains the home's old fashioned charm. The chef of your group will find all the high quality cookware and serving ware that any meal may need. Happy cooking!
Dining room: A 'formal,' yet casual dining room with gorgeous built in china cabinets is located just off the kitchen. The spacious table will easily seat a group of eight. This beautiful dining area may lead to dinners extending into the wee hours ... the dining room chairs are extraordinarily comfortable!
Living room: A spacious living room is located off the dining room, in the home's 'front parlor room.' Cozy sofas with windows looking out across the native landscaped yard and to the main ranch beyond provide a great place to relax at the end of the day. Guests will find a nice flat screen television with satellite service and DVD player.
Services available: The rental rate includes an end of stay cleaning. For guests who stay two weeks or more, a weekly cleaning will be provided. Additional housekeeping, as well as catering service can be arranged with a bit of prior notice.
Activities nearby: Premiere trout fishing and bird and wildlife viewing along the creek and river is available right out the back door! A short drive away are plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities including horseback riding, rafting, hiking, and visiting Yellowstone National Park. The authentic, western town of Ennis is nearby with plenty of restaurants, art galleries and antique shops to browse. West Yellowstone, one of Yellowstone National Park's main entrances, is just forty minutes away. There's so much to do!
Other details: No smoking is allowed in the home. No pets are allowed on the property or in the home without prior approval from Mountain Home. The home has a private phone, and a washer and dryer. It is very rare for a Montana home to be built with air conditioning; this home does not have AC; however, it does have an extensive built-in roof-ventilated power fan system to enhance natural evening cooling on the warmest summer days. This home has a fully equipped kitchen, and includes good quality kitchen, bath and bed linens, and staples like paper goods, laundry, dish and hand soaps. |
