As a child psychologist who limits his practice to children and adolescents with severe emotional and mental disabilities, I need some very serious down time. Trust me this is the place. The HOME is wonderful in all aspects: location, cleanliness and price. The owner is fantastic to work with and has the reasonable expectation that you treat her home with respect so that others may enjoy. I think this was our fourth time to enjoy the "awesome" place. My wife and I will continue to return as often as possible.
Recommended for:Pet owners, age 55+.

The perfect place for a quiet, peaceful, beach getaway. The house is in good condition, clean, and has plenty of room. We had 2 children in our group who enjoyed sharing the bunkbeds. It's nice to be able to just walk across the deck, down the steps, and onto the beach. It's a fairly low-key crowd sharing the island, which was nice, and made for plenty of space on the beach -- not too crowded. If you get tired of the beach, there are enough things to do on the island and nearby to keep you busy -- playgrounds for the kids, bike rentals, sea turtle hospital, shopping, eating. Overall, really relaxing stay.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We've just returned from Surf City and a great house for the 7 of us. We would have liked a queen bed in the upstairs bedroom (better for sleeping 2 adults) and a picnic table on the deck, but otherwise the location, cleanliness, and beach location were perfect. This area of the beach is less crowded than nearer the pier where we have stayed before! There were several little parks close by which the grandchildren enjoyed. We dined at The Breezeway (in S. Topsail), the Mainsail, and the Thai restaurant. The owner was very helpful in answering questions for us and we would definitely recommend this house to others. Oh, we loved that it was pet friendly too!
Recommended for:Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We surely enjoyed our stay at Surf City and when we found this house we found the jewel of Top Sail Island! It was so enjoyable and relaxing watching the pelicans and dolphins at play, soaking up the sun on the white sandy beach and finding some interesting shells while taking long strolls along the shore. We found some great restaurants-loved the Crab Pot! The kids said it was the best vacation ever and my husband and I agree whole heartedly! We can't wait to come back really soon!
