  We stayed for a week in May and fell in love with this house. It's in the perfect location for us: in the forest at Cape Fear right near east beach and Shoals Club. The house has a reverse layout, so the living room, kitchen, screened porch, front porch and sundeck (all of which are upstairs), have a ton of natural light and lovely views of the canopy. The rooms were spacious and very nice. Comfortable beds and the bathrooms are awesome. Everything seems really new and nice. The kitchen is stocked and has a great, large family dining table. The living room has a very comfortable and large L-shaped couch with a large LCD TV that works perfectly. Both golf carts (a 4-seater and 6-seater) work well. There's tons of beach chairs, umbrellas and beach toys/etc in the garage. What really sets Star Gazer apart, beyond the awesome layout, large bedrooms and bathrooms, is that the owners seem to really care. Unlike a lot of homes on Bald Head, the owners seem to be inviting and really want you to have a great stay. The owners have paid attention to the little things, like giving you lots of soft towels; providing shampoo, conditioner and even kleenex in each bathroom; more beach towels than we could use; brand new and really nice washer/dryer; and even cleaning supplies and other stuff you need in the kitchen. It's clear that the owners have thought through a bunch of details on what you'll need and like and provide it. That was really nice! We would absolutely stay here again. Thank you, Mimi!

  My family is close, but as the years go by we've scattered across the globe as our own families have taken off. Last summer, my brother and his family were visiting from Africa, and we wanted to do something special that would build new memories for us, but would also become some of the special early memories our young children could share as well. After much debate, we settled on booking a place on BHI and enjoying a relaxed, one of a kind beach experience. If you've never been to the island, the ferry process can seem somewhat daunting. Let me assure you, it is nowhere near as stressful as you may be imagining. Just do your homework on how you should pack (we print labels w/ the rental address prior to arriving, so our dropoff at the dock is much quicker). After doing some research, we settled on Stargazer for our rental. Six adults and 5 kids later we headed for the beach. You will not be disappointed with this home. One, the pictures do not do the rooms justice. Both the master bedrooms upstairs and down are very spacious, and all the bathrooms are very well appointed. Hardwoods are throughout the house, and there is a lot of nice deckspace off the front, side, and back of the house. I personally like being in the maritime forest, especially in the summer, as the trees provide a little break from the direct sun. The entire island is easily navigated by a short cart ride, so no location is "too far" off the beaten path. If your family is taking up both carts for some reason, you can easily take a walk or bike to the beach and Shoals Club from this location. The house had two carts, one six and one four seater. As a little bonus, i think the red four seater cart may be the fastest on the island! The owners were very easy to deal with, and very quick responding to any questions i had. I wouldn't hesitate booking this house again, and have recommended it to several people as well. Being on an island with no cars is amazing, and running errands to the store is nothing like the usual beach shopping (the grocery store is surprisingly reasonable, it's not walmart, but think usual beach pricing). I can't imagine having a bad time at BHI, but this house will certainly help enhance your trip. My brother and his wife liked it so much, they wound up buying property on the island before we left. Not sure there is a stronger vote of confidence than that! Enjoy your stay.

  This was our second year staying on Bald Head Island but our first in Star Gazer. We love both the island and the vacation home. Star Gazer had everything we needed for our family of 4 and 2 additional grandparents. Though only our second year to Bald Head, we have stayed in many vacation homes through the years and Star Gazer exceeded our expectations. Mimi is a pleasure to work with and makes sure that you have all the information that you need for a wonderful vacation. The home is spacious and well maintained (we can be rather picky) and in a great location with convenient access to East Beach. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the modern ammenities we would need for a week's vacation. Each charming bedroom has its own impressive bathroom. We were very impressed with all the "little things" that Mimi has done with Star Gazer to make visitors feel welcome and at home. We will surely rent this home again for another Bald Head vacation!

  We have been to BHI many times, but this time we were taking my in-laws and my husband's grandmother, so we needed a home with enough space for all of us. We have rented many, many homes/condos all over the US (and Caribbean) and this one is by FAR the nicest. (In fact, this is the first time I've ever bothered to write a review, which is saying a lot!) Mimi goes above and beyond to make this home comfortable and convenient and her communication skills are outstanding. You feel like you are staying in the home of a beloved friend, instead of in a rental unit. We had 5 adults, including a very active 83-year-old and myself at 7 months pregnant, and 3 kids, ages 2, 4, and 8. This house was PERFECT for all of us. My mother-in-law and I are both neat freaks with very high standards, and this house exceeded all of them. I can't recommend it enough...except I want to make sure it's available for us, since I'm sure we'll be back!!

  This was my family's second time to Bald Head Island and the first at Star Gazer. We had a wonderful, relaxing week in the Leach's beautiful home. The home is clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The owners were excellent about communicating all details with us, and the home was, as advertised, spacious and accommodating. We brought our teenage children with us (and one teenage friend), and then my parents (seniors) joined us for a few days. Everyone had a bedroom and private bathroom (which, with teenagers, is a must). Everyone had a blast. We loved the proximity to both the market and the beach (the Shoals club was beautiful as usual). My son commented on the wealth of TVs and said how great that was and wanted to thank the owners for the Wifi, which was also under constant use. The carts worked great - no problems. The kitchen was well stocked and had every kitchen gadget one might need. We made good use of the Island, enjoying a day of kayaking with the BHI conservancy (please support those guys - their outings are fun and interesting and their work is important) and stand up paddleboardig with Coastal Urge (easy to work with). Thank you to the owners of Star Gazer for sharing their beautiful home and adding another memorable week to our fond memories of Bald Head Island.

  This was our first stay at Bald Head Island and what a joy it was! Everything about our stay made for a special memory...the weather, the shoal (that we walked several times), the uncrowded beach, the warm temperature of the ocean, the meals at the Shoal Club, the quietness of the island (even though the Star Gazer is not beach front you can still hear the waves at night). The last day of our visit our grandsons, ages 8 & 9 played at the shore's edge for hours on end! Mimi was such a joy to work with. She quickly and patiently answered my endless number of questions before arrival. The Star Gazer was so perfectly detailed. If there were any lacking amenities I never found them! I would highly encourage anyone to make this home their vacation spot and create the same joyful memories that we did!

  We really enjoyed our trip to the Leach's beautiful home. The location near Shoals Club and East Beach was perfect. Having a 6 seater golf cart was key for our large family. The house itself was well appointed and very comfortable. I loved the bathrooms and kitchen. It was hard to come back to my own after being spoiled for a week. Star Gazer was private with multiple porches making it easy to get some precious alone time. Mimi was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely recommend this house!!

  This was our second trip to Stargazer and our best yet! The house, the weather, the island was wonderful! It felt like we were coming home! Stargazer was just as warm and inviting as the first visit! Mimi was very helpful and accomodating. Our family of 5 would recommend staying at stargazer to anyone. We loved the porches, the outdoor shower at the end of a beach day, and the comfortable beds. We hope to return to Bald Head Island and to Stargazer.

  My first trip to BHI could not have been more perfect. Although I have rented many homes in NJ, NC and Florida, this was by far the most pleasant experience. Mimi could not have been more responsive and enjoyable to work with. Star Gazer is a beautiful home in a perfect location on breathtaking Bald Head Island. The house had everything we could possibly need for a fun and relaxing vacation. The beds and baths were beautiful and comfortable. When not on the beach or exploring the island, our kids really enjoyed all the board games, video games and puzzles. In addition to the beautiful indoor space, the various outdoor patios were enjoyed by all. I must also mention that Mimi did a fabulous job of communicating and keeping us informed regarding all the fun events that were taking place on the island the week we were there. Once again, we can not say enough about Mimi, her beautiful house and wonderful Bald Head Island.

  Staying at Star Gazer was such a treat! The home is beautifully decorated and most comfortable for a young family. It is in a great location just a few minutes drive from East Beach in one direction and the Market in the other. We appreciated the home owners attention to details both inside and outside of the home. Their providing access to bikes, beach chairs and various "toys" meant we had less to bring from home, which was most helpful! Working with the Leach's was such a pleasure, Mimi is very organized and handled all our needs with ease. We so enjoyed our time on BHI and at Star Gazer!!
