Sunday to Sunday rental schedule during summer months. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to be at Edisto. Ideal weather and abundant seafood.
The T-house, built from Cypress wood in the 1970’s, is loaded with charm, color, and incredible light. Only a short two blocks to the beach, it’s likely one of the best values on the island with it’s recently remodeled bathrooms, hardwood floors and living room furniture. The house offers three comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has recent upgrades including fresh paint, a new fridge, floor, counter tops and custom made window treatments. The kitchen walls are pegboard, Julia Child style, as we are a family that loves to cook. I've included regional cookbooks for you to try during your stay including some favorite Low Country favorites.
With all of it’s recent upgrades, the house is a terrific bang for your buck, and any season will offer you something special. It's a perfect spot for special occasions, holiday's or a romantic getaway.
The spacious great room with it's cathedral ceilings, give you a sense of being in a tree house as the house is surrounded by Palmetto Palms and Live Oak trees. It’s the perfect size for a small family, honeymooners, nature lovers, retirees, empty nesters, history buffs and artists. You’ll love having your morning coffee on the back porch while bird watching in the nearby lagoon.
My family and I have been going to Edisto since the late 1970’s and have watched the island develop in wonderful ways. Located 40 miles south of Charleston, Edisto Island it's chocked full of fun activities including a variety of shops and restaurants. You'll be intrigued with the island’s native beauty, it’s history and the friendliness of the permanent residents.
The preservation of Edisto's history, coupled with its careful development and conservation efforts have helped it become one of the best family beaches in South Carolina. Free of high-rise hotels and traffic lights, its charm is still intact.
The island’s Piggly Wiggly, a friendly laid back grocery run by natives, allows you to shop for groceries, wine and beer. A liquor store is next door, and two produce stands on the island offer produce in season. When you are ready to dine out, there are several favorites spots including Po Pig's Barbeque, The Old Post Office and The Plantation Grille where you will find low country cooking and fresh seafood. There are several other fun sandwich and lunch spots to explore too!
For golfers, the islands newly restored golf course, The Plantation Course of Edisto, is reminiscent of a scene out of Jurassic Park--it’s only missing the dinosaurs. I’m told those that have golfed there have really enjoyed the course.
For nature lovers, a wonderful bike path wraps around the island and bikes and kayaks are available to rent at “Edisto Essentials.” The nearby Ace Basin Wildlife Preserve, which also houses one of the island's plantations, is a must do for lovers of wildlife, and if you want to surround yourself with nature you might like a kayak tour that meanders through the wildlife preserve. To top it all off, the island recently opened Botany Bay Plantation which you can tour yourself, or take a guided ecotour of the area that provides you with an unspoiled beach. Highway 174, your route on to the island, was recently named one of America's most scenic highways.
If you fish, Edisto Water Sports and Tackle offers both in shore fishing charts, which run in the creeks as well as off- shore offering deep water fishing in the Atlantic. Islanders can be seen seen fishing and crabbing, shrimping in the creeks around the island.
Fun local shops and galleries are sprinkled throughout the island and are perfect for rainy day shopping.
For church goers, I’ve found all of the churches to be welcoming. The historic Presbyterian and Episcopal churches with on site graveyards are listed on the Historic S.C. register. If you like gospel music, you will find it alive and well on Sunday morning at the local African American Baptist church on the island.
If you are up for a day trip, you’re situated between historic Charleston and Beaufort and Savannah. Charleston is the closer of the three, but they are all worth a visit, and you will find them equally unique. Fine dining, lots of history, carriage rides, boat tours that take you Ft. Sumter, museums, art galleries and fine antique stores. The cities have it all.
Maybe you want to escape winter and visit this quiet, lovely island with few tourists, or perhaps you love the fall and cooler weather when oyster season begins and the shrimp are abundant. If spring is your favorite season you’ll find azaleas and wisteria vines in full bloom while watching the marsh come alive in shades of lime green. For many of us, it’s the summer that lures us to the ocean to escape the summer heat and enjoy the full bustle of the island and that’s when you will experience Edisto in full swing.
Regardless of when you choose to come to Edisto, each season has it’s own mystery and beauty. So if you’re ready to get out of your rat race and kick off your shoes, then this could be your little piece of paradise. Come stay with us at the T-house, 404 Jungle Rd. You’ll be very glad you did!
To inquire about renting please contact at the numbers or e-mail below.
Linens are available for rental on the island through Edisto Essentials, or you can bring your own. Optional cleaning service is available upon departure and my local realty service is there to assist you with any necessary needs.
Mature, responsible and fun loving adults.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Mrs. Ginger, I had the best vacation ever! I loved the time when we went on the boat at Island Cove. We went really far on the boat. We went so far we were about 2,000 yards from the beach and where there were many big waves that splashed us in the face. We brought out bikes so we could bike everywhere. We rode them to Thirsty Fish, the Ice Cream Shop and Curly Girl, the SeaCow Eatery and the Edisto Surf Shop. The best part was going crabbing, catching crabs and hermit crabs and watching the sunrise. Thank you for letting us stay, Jordan Buford, GA.Did you find this review helpful? Our Edisto adventure has been most interesting and comfortable for the past two months. We have enjoyed the birds and all of the abundant nature of this fascinating island. We purchased at Patriot's Pass at the Charleston Vistors Center and then toured many homes and plantations. We loved Botany Bay, the dolphins and having lunch at the Sea Cow Eatery. The sunlight filled home is beautiful in early morning. We experienced many 60 and 70 degree days in January and February--great weather! Our Edisto adventure will be filled with pleasant memories. Dec. 25-Jan 1, 2012 Followed many of Ginger's suggestions along wtih several of those in guidebooks. Visited Beaufort, Charleston and Savannah, all in one week and all special places. Did a carriage ride in Savannah--informative and enjoyable. Explored Edisto Beach on rental bikes several times at different times of day allowing for different looks of the island. Hiked Ace Basin and Botany Bay. Botany Bay is a lovely, special place. Saw the sunrise from the beach in the morning--beautiful. Shopped at King's Market for fresh veggies and delicious prepared food. Went to Flower's Seafood for fresh shrimp and also shopped at George and Pink's for fresh veggies. The drive to their interesting produce stand is interesting and beautiful. Last day, finally got to see dolphins a few yards from shore near beach #37--it seems like that's where they like to play and feed. Ginger's home was perfect and her suggestions were all A+. It was a memorable time in a memorable place. Many thanks, Mike, Marge, Jess and Maggie New YorkDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time. My daughter, Laura, her husband, Francis, their 2-year-old daughter Mackenzie, and I loved staying in your home! We loved the beach, the nature sites and being away from the hustle and bustle of Boston. None of us would have believed that we could survive a week without the TV! We definitiely plan on making this a family tradition and will be back next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It was great, Ginger! We loved your home, Edisto, and Charleston, the weather and everything. Edisto Bookstore was great and I enjoyed reading your cookbooks so that I bought 4 there! Also enjoyed the Pink Van Tour, buying grits at Geetchee Boy Mill, sitting outside of McConkey's Jungle Shack to use WiFi. We also love he SeaCow and Old Post Office Restaurant and Flower's and Edisto Seafood for fresh fish and seafood to cook. Thanks for your wonderful, casual chic decor in the T-house. We were right at home! Lynn & Gene--Louisville, KYDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It's so hard to leave this place! The house is so welcoming. Love the light and the porch and the marsh and the birdsong. Great joy to find good cookware too! We enjoyed the beach, watching dolphins go back out to sea while sunset viewing over the sound. Sea Cow Eatery is great! Loved the bookstore and "Curly Girl" gifts. Thank you for our lovely place. Thank you so much for opening your home for us and many others. YOu have obviously worked hard on and put a lot of love into this beautiful house. We enjoyed the natural light during the day & watching the lighting at night. The back porch was a perfect place to rock little ones for naps. We cooked most of our meals in your cute kitchen, and also stuffed ourselves at The Sea Cow Eatery and Flowers Seafood Co. We also love Island Video & Ice Cream. We took short scenic walks to the lovely beach daily and took in as much sun, waves & wildlife as we could. Our last activity was a wonderful trip to the beautiful and historical Botany Bay. Our vacation was complete with good food, a great beach, fun activities & a fabulous home to come back to each evening! Chad, Karin, Clay and Lily Grace.Did you find this review helpful? We stayed at the T-House in February 2011, and spent a truly wonderful vacation there. Without knowing we had picked a very sunny week for this time of the year, and we so enjoyed the mild weather. We took many trips to Charleston, walked the city, did a carriage ride there, checked out the Children's Museum of the Low Country, the Charleston Aquarium, and visited Middleton Place, a wonderful plantation with amazing wildlife and blooming English Gardens. Botany Bay Plantation proved to be very worthy a trip as well. We plan to be back to the Island some time. Thank you for a memorable vacation in such a nice home! We loved the interior and especially the curtains!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We had a wonderful time here! We used it as a base for exploring the low country through it's nature, architecture and cuisine. We visited Charleston and had an excellent tour with Michael Trouche-10:30 AM in front of 108 Meeting St.. We did a lot of walking here on Edisto Beach--enjoyed the marshes and ocean, and at this time of year it's a very private stretch of sand and water. We ventured to the Old Post Office restaurant just up the way on Hwy 174. What a find. Fabulous 4-star dining with local specialties. Great sausage made by a crazy man in Hollywood, SC out waitress, Nicole informed us. We also took the opportunity to visit Savannah and where we found the tranquility of her squares and Forsyth Park. We enjoyed our walking tour(perhaps opting for the overview trolley would have been a good idea.) Finally, we took a cooking class at 700 Drayton with Chef Darin--authentic low country recipes--no disappointment there!! Hopefully we can bring the sun back with us to Canada.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

About the owner: I am a photojournalist working for a paper in the Upper Midwest. I love interior and garden design and am an advocate for protecting the environment. This T-house of ours is one of my passions. Located in the midst of my ancestral roots, 40 miles south of Charleston, I come to this gorgeous sea island of Edisto to rejuvenate myself twice a year, to unplug and relax, to visit tidal creeks and marsh areas, to see ocean views and wildlife. All of these things help prepare me for the long winters which I experience in the upper Midwest. It is unlike anything else on the coast of South Carolina. I paint, I redecorate, I cook, I visit local shops, I connect with nature and the beach, I visit old friends, and I get the house in the best shape possible for my renters. 2012 has been another fabulous year at the T-house with travelers from all over the country coming to enjoy our home while they explore the low country area. Be sure and read the guest comments to see the fun things that folks are discovering about Edisto and the lowcountry area. I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you choose the T-house as your vacation spot this year and in year's to come.
Why the Owner Chose Edisto Beach:
Because Edisto is off the beaten path, it has retained integrity and history that other coastal areas no longer have.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
My house was custom decorated by me and is filled with colorful art and fabrics. I love beauty and I like for my surroundings to be attractive, so I have worked to make that happen for my guests who stay at the T-house.
