My family and I spent four nights at the cabin in November 2011. The cabin is situated well away from any road or neighboring house and right on a nice pond. Nevertheless, it is conveniently close to New Buffalo and LaPorte. Despite the cold weather, we caught several fish (bass and bluegill) right in front of the cabin using nightcrawlers. In the mornings we saw geese, deer, squirrels and tons of interesting birds. This is a perfect place to bring your dog. Our dog was swimming and running all day. It took her a couple of days to recover after we got home! Kids will like the fishing, hiking in the woods, swinging on the tree and porch swings, and the downstairs tv and blu ray movies. The cabin itself was beautiful and extremely clean and well maintained. It has a fully equipped kitchen. Nevertheless, I highly recommend a trip to the Heston Supper Club during your stay. It is a warm, old fashioned type of place with fabulous prime rib and good seafood. The fireplace is great for relaxing and drinking a cup of hot chocolate or a glass of wine. The beds had new mattresses and were very comfortable. The owner, Deb, was very nice and helpful throughout the rental process. There were no surprises, and everything was just as advertised, if not better.
Owner response:Thank you! What a lovely review. We take pride in our cabin, and enjoy the Heston Supper Club, as well. We find we can truly relax there in the peace and quiet - DAM

We had such a wonderful time spending the weekend in this cabin - it is so private, serene and relaxing, yet close to all of the New Buffalo attractions. The front porch looks out to one of the ponds and there are so many things to explore on the property. We could just sit out there for hours. It was kid friendly and very welcoming and comfortable. Deb, the owner was so prompt with replies and full of useful information. We can't wait to go back for a longer duration. It is the perfect getaway and so close to Chicago.

I stayed here in early August with my wife, six-year-old son and two greyhounds. We stayed for five days. I had wished it was longer when we went to leave. This place is perfect - peaceful and close to New Buffalo, blueberry picking, and the highway. Out of the many places my wife and I have traveled (we traveled many places around the world until we became parents) this is one of the few places I felt I could fully unwind and relax and it was only an hour and a half from our house. Who would've ever guessed? The wildlife is abundant and it was amazing to have 80 acres all to ourselves. While I enjoyed the porch swing, our son had fun on the tree swing. The place is very comfortable, appears clean and is well-maintained. The living room is amazing with a large stone fireplace and a massive chandelier. Deb was amazingly helpful with local information and she returned our security deposit very quickly and with no problems. We will definitely be back as soon as "life" allows us.
Owner response:Robert - Thank you for the great review - we love our property and we especially love it when our guests have a great experience there! We appreciate the kind words. - Deb

I surprised my parents with this "cottage" getaway over Father's Day weekend. It is truely more like a cozy home with all of the amenities you could ask for. Plenty of sleeping space, clean and well-stocked with dishes, linens, outdoor seating, and stunning scenery. Very secluded spot where you can let your dogs roam. The drive into the more touristy area of town is just a few minutes. The owner (Deb) was fantastic to work with and answered all of my questions about the area. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a place in the New Buffalo area.
Owner response:Thank you! We love when our guests enjoy our beautiful property as much as we enjoy it!

My husband and I needed to getaway from the crazyness of real life, we could not have picked a better place. Everthing was perfect from the communication and information we received from the owners when we booked, to the spectacular home, and property. We loved every minutes we where there and so did the dog. Thank you for sharing your beautiful peace of Heaven!

We spend a wonderful weekend in this cabin. We were a party of 4 adults, one baby and a labrador retriever. The cabin is really beautiful, in a rustic style but very comfortable and well equipped (dishwasher, washer/dryer, a spacious kitchen, gas bbq, etc...). The estate is beautiful and perfect for long walks. We didn't leave the property and enjoyed our time very much. We just wished they wouldn't shut the cabin down during the winter. Otherwise we would be returning really soon.

We rented the cabin for a weekend last summer. It was awesome! Very peaceful and truly away from everything. The owners have thought through everything really well so that you don't have to go around figuring stuff out. They are great to deal with. Will probably be back in 2011!

My wife and I spent 4 days at Somerset Cabin a week ago with another couple and a dog. We felt the property listing was accurate and everything was as presented. The cabin is nestled among trees, overlooks a bunch of ponds, and you even get your own forest for exploration if you are into hiking, or you can hike out among the open pond areas. The furnishings are very comfortable, and a fire in the huge stone fireplace created just the right atmosphere for dinners and for reading. The porch overlooks a very large pond and we were told we could fish in it, although we didn't. It was too cool to swim (!), but had we wanted to do that, the New Buffalo beaches and all of Harbor Country was only 10 minutes away. There is a large casino on the way to town, although we had no interest in it. Hi-speed internet made checking in with my office easy. It's hard to believe that such a lovely piece of countryside exists so close to the city. This was just what we needed, and our nephews would have really enjoyed all the exploring possibilities - we will bring them next time.

My wife and I took our 2 month old and small dog to the property in the spring. The property is unbelievable. There are a hundred places to take a walk and view the beauty of nature. We saw tons of birds, geese, muskrats and deer while we were there. Many people could stay at this property, relax on the beautiful porch that overlooks one of the many ponds, and just pause...and relax. Our dog fell in love with the place, trotting around off leash and sniffing everything that the property had to offer. It feels like you are wonderfully lost in a world so far from big city living. Yet, New Buffalo, in all it's charms and beaches, is so close that my wife and I looked at each other as we were driving into town and said, "Are we already here?" Four Winds Casino is just a hop, skip and a jump away. Three Oaks, and the many antiques, were just down the road. We even made a quick trip over to South Bend to take a look at the campus in just under 40 minutes. My family has already booked another trip to the cabin and I hope we'll be coming here for years to come. This the perfect escape from the city!

My husband and I took our 2 dogs and went to celebrate our anniversary here. The views were breathtaking. It was so quiet all the time which allowed us to sit on the roomy deck and read our books. The dogs loved the house and all the land that they could roam around on without a leash. The well water took a little getting used to. Being here away from the hustle of the City, made us want to buy a cabin of our own. We would definitely go back to visit this home.

A really terrific place to stay. The view from the front porch is picture perfect. Quiet at night with only the sound crickets and quiet during the day. The few ponds on the property are great and I was tempted to go for a swim. Kids would love it. The home was very comfortable and well apoointed.

We went for a weekend of fun at the beach and in town but when we got to the Sanctuary we opted to stay. The views were idyllic, the house clean and comfortable, and the grounds, 80 acres to ourselves, offered plenty of activities from hiking and fishing to basketball and bike riding. We left only once to go out for dinner (well, twice, once to shop for food when we got there and realized we didn't want to leave). It was the best value I've had in a long time.
