Casa Iguana has so much to offer! First, it's great location! Casa Iguana is located oceanfront, with unobstructed and unforgettable views of the blue Caribbean Sea and sky. The heart of Akumal, Akumal Bay is located an easy ten minute stroll from Casa Iguana. Here you will find great restaurants, boutiques, dive shops, our gym and famous Turtle Bay Cafe. The beach of Akumal is soft white sand and is an excellent place to sunbath and swim. Especially for those with younger children!
A quick walk the other direction (north) will take you to La Buena Vida Restaurant and Bar and the beach of Half Moon Bay. Half Moon Bay is known for its excellent snorkeling. This is a great place to see coral, tropical fish and sea turtles.
Casa Iguana is located on a large half acre lot and includes two seperate structures; the main two bedroom home and the adjacent two bedroom casita. Cook service included 5 days per week, lunch and dinner, guests provide groceries.
Casa Iguana Akumal Mexico: Casa Iguana is located on a large half acre lot and includes two separate structures; the main two bedroom home and the adjacent two bedroom casita. The most spectacular features of Casa Iguana are the outdoor living and dining areas, incredible swimming pool, expansive ocean-front beach sand play area for volleyball and soccer and the Gazebo, an ocean front palapa with hand painted and tile table and hammocks. This is the perfect spot for taking in this amazing place!
General Layout Casa Iguana's main villa has been completely renovated and now features marble floors, granite countertops and two ocean view terraces. The main villa offers two bedrooms. The master suite, located on the upper level, is furnished with a queen bed and is air conditioned. The master suite also enjoys a private ocean view terrace furnished with table and chairs. The guest bedroom on the main level is furnished with two twin beds, which can be converted to a king bed.
Casa Iguana Casita: The Casita, which is just to the rear of the main house, enjoys the amenities of the main villa, including TV, DVD, CD Player and wireless internet. The Casita includes a private living area, large and fully equipped kitchen and two air conditioned bedrooms. The first guest bedroom is furnished with two double beds, the second bedroom with one double and one twin bed. The two bathrooms are have been updated with marble and natural stone as well. Just outside of the Casita is large outdoor sitting and dining area. A nice retreat at the end of the day!
Casa Iguana also offers a charcoal BBQ grill, outdoor serving area and sink and adjacent patios with seating for up to 12.
Casa Iguana is located right on the waters edge. There is direct access to the ocean. However, due to the force of waves, it is best to enter the water via the beaches of Akumal or Half Moon Bay, both within an easy 10 minute walk.

our family had a great time at Casa Iguana. The property was beautiful, the staff was amazing, and we all felt very safe with the security guard on site every night. Akumal is a great little town and it's absolutely beautiful down there. I personally didn't have any safety concerns but it made everyone in the group feel very safe. Danny was an amazing chef! We got to meet his wife and kids one night, when him and his wife made us homemade tomales. We liked his family so much, my grandma made them a homemade quilt that we're going to send them and I think a couple of things for their kids. I gave the kids a little football that I brought down there and they thought that was the coolest thing ever.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

First of all, the staff that "comes with the house" is first rate, reliable, and REALLY makes a difference in the quality of the stay in Mexico. Take advantage of the cook/chef - ours was Danny and the entire family was thrilled with his fabulous meals, his friendly and informative nature, and his refusal to let us help with the dishes. The home itself is in a convenient location to the village of Akumal. Walking distance to the town, Half Moon Bay, and even Yal-ku Laggoon - a MUST SEE for anyone who enjoys snorkeling. Plenty of room to spread out among the two homes clustered around the common pool area. It is on the ocean - just walk past the pool and lay in the hammocks and watch the ocean all day. The beach, however, is not swimmable as there is no sand - only yards of very sharp rocks and formations that while beautiful, are dangerous to even walk, much less try to get in the ocean. Beach access is a short walk north to Half Moon Bay. The smaller casita has a large kitchen and sitting area indoors and out - nice place to gather at night. The bathroom in that casita had a sewage odor that while it didn't prevent the bathrooms use - it was difficult to ignore. In Mexico, the toilet tissue is NOT thrown down the commode as in the USA - it is placed in a waste basket next to the toilet and emptied every morning by staff. We found this to be a very common practice - even in the airport and restaurants we visited. Bedding was not plush but acceptably comfortable and clean. Safes and locked drawers were available in every bedroom. Security is taken seriously at the Casa and there were security guards walking around every night - although it didn't seem like the area really needed it. We felt safe at all times - walked into Akumal several nights without any problems. The shops in Akumal were fabulous and interesting shopping experiences. Restaurants EXCELLENT - although we enjoyed Danny's cooking more. ASK FOR HIS GUACAMOLE. Would recommend this house to anyone - it was clean, beautiful, and comfortable accomodation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We just finished a week-long stay at Casa Iguana. Overall, we had a nice experience, but a few things could be improved. Marcia was very helpful and the booking process was great. The cook/caretaker, Danny, met us on our arrival and was wonderful all week. We enjoyed having the pool, and the hammocks got a lot of use. We really enjoyed Akumal - the town is small and quiet, which is what we were looking for. About a 10 minute walk from Casa Iguana. Akumal Bay is nice - snorkeling is good but not spectacular. Saw plenty of turtles and a stingray. Reef is nothing extraordinary, though. Beach is nice, albeit a bit crowded. We rented gear at the Akumal Dive Shop, and they were very helpful. Marcia had advised us that the oceanfront behind Casa Iguana is rocky and not conducive to swimming - so this is not the place for you if you expect to walk right out the back door to swim in the ocean. And be aware that the rocky area of the coastline is somewhat littered with plastic and other debris - disappointing. The layout and location of the home is less than ideal. The downside of having the pool at the back is that the front house sits very close to the street, so you hear all the cars and people walking by. Even the main house sits far enough away from the ocean that it doesn't have a beachfront feel. The separation of the two houses is OK if you have two small families, but it wasn't ideal for our family. The floor plans are not ideal - with the major complaint being the lack of a real "gathering" spot. Even with just the five of us, there was no place where we could all be together comfortably. There is a small living room in the front house, with a small TV and one marginally comfortable couch and a chair. Also a similar room off the master bedroom in the main house, but it doesn't even have a TV. Be prepared for below average internet access and WiFi service - modem is in the front house, no reception in the main house. Internet incredibly slow. The other main complaint is the beds. Master bedroom has only a queen bed, despite being plenty large for a king. And the overall quality of the beds is average at best. Not particularly comfortable, and cheap pillows and linens. For a property at this price point, I would have expected better quality. That said, the home was clean and fairly well maintained. Overall, a good but not great experience. Danny said that there are new owners - maybe some upgrades will be on the way.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

1. We loved your staff at Casa Iguana!!! Juani took great care of the place... 2. Bernanrdo busied himself constantly with the yards, doted on us when cooking (taught me to make Chilaquilles which I'm making again for the firehouse tonite) and did EVERYTHING he could to assist with cabs and all else. Vincente made us feel safe and secure. (We even cooked dinner for the staff one night to thank them!) 3. Alex & Roger were very attentive, prompt and helpful. 4. We sooo enjoyed the Casa Iguana and Casita...especially eating dinners outside!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our stay at Casa Iguana was amazing. We all loved the house and are eager to return. Bernardo and Juani the staff were very good to us and we appreciated their hard work. We were all very happy with their service. The security guard (who's name I have forgotten) found one of our wallets in the yard and took it home with him to keep safe and returned it to us the next night. We were very relived and thankful for his honesty. Not many people in his position would have been so honest. All in all the house was great and the staff too. 7 people fell in love with akumal ! Thanks for everything marcia. I will definately book with u next time I can get away.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We arranged for an arrival-day dinner - what a treat after our travel day! It was so pleasant, we did it again the night before we left! The staff couldn't have been more agreeable, and kept the place spotless. If we couldn't find the information we needed in the house book, Roger, Manuel or Juany had the answer. We enjoyed having separate buildings so early risers and night owls could avoid bothering one another. Look for the nightly parade of hermit crabs - fascinating!Did you find this review helpful? Great spaces, large property that you can have some privacy from others even in your own group! The main house is clearly nicer, but it was sooo nice to have 2 seperate living places for privacy, but still have great outdoor spaces to come together. Shop in Playa at Mega or other grocery store b4 coming up. Have a great time, don't miss La Buena Vida and Sergio at the Galleria. He paints outside his shop local scenes. Great guy. We ordered 3 paintings to be sent to us in the states. Tell him Barb and Manuel say hello. Wonderful family! We LOVE akumal.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
