This cottage is ideally located for families and couples who want to come and go from the beach and downtown without driving, parking or walking very far. The beach access, directly across the street, is just 40 feet from the front steps. Restaurants and shopping area are just 3 blocks away. We are located at the corner of West Ashley Ave. and 4th Ave. - you can't miss our bright yellow cottage.
One of Folly's original cottages, the Love Shack has its original heartpine floors, board and batten walls and furnishings of its era. You can see the ocean from almost every room in the house - or listen to the ocean and feel the breezes on the front screened porch and large deck. There's even a roof top deck over the porch if you want a panoramic view of the island.
This rental offers guests a combination of comfort and nostalgia that's getting harder to come by...we have aimed to preserve the same flavor we enjoyed as youngsters coming to the beach, before the era of condos and 'McMansions.' This property has 2 bedrooms and a large living area, both areas equipped with 42' flat screen TVs. Our large sofa in the living area converts to a queen bed - for extra sleeping and guests. Our cottage has approximately 650 square feet.
The living area and kitchen are open, divided by a bar/table/counter which is an old hatch door from a WWII Liberty Ship - refinished of course.
Folly Beach is a six mile long barrier island, and the closest beach to historic Charleston, South Carolina, 15 minutes on the Connector. In choosing Folly Beach as one of their top ten 'All American Beach Towns,' AOL Travel described the things to see: 'Communing with nature is more common than commuting to the office, honking is what the birds do, and a board meeting is a bunch of surfers hanging out at the Washout. Newcomers' first stop should be McKevlin's Surf Shop, here since 1965. They'll set you up with a rental and one-hour lesson for $40. Folly Beach County Park is quieter than busy Center Street beach, but still has boogie boards, umbrellas, and bikes for rent. At Folly Beach Crab Shack, grab a hammock chair, and munch on buckets of seafood.'
We welcome children of all ages and dogs. Our property is located on a corner lot. The backyard has a canopy of live oaks and is completely fenced. This home is not nearly as elevated as the newer ones; so there's only 10 steps from the back door to the yard. All these features make pet care and child care a lot easier.
During summer season, we rent by the week and our turnover day is Saturday. Check-in: 3:00 PM; Check-out: 10:00 AM

This was my second visit and it was just as special as the first two years ago. This trip was a girls getaway that we enjoyed immensely. The house immediately felt like home and my Cavalier King Charles spaniel settled in immediately and demanded a trip to the beach first thing. This was a birthday treat that allowed us to get away from the cold and wet weather in Illinois. We enjoyed sitting on the porch, reading, watching people go back and gazing at the Atlantic for hours at a time. The Lost Dog was within easy walking distance and we had breakfast there every morning. G.G. popped in to check on us and was delightful. I can't imagine visiting Folly Beach and not staying in the Love Shack. Five stars all round.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Thank you for having this great rental available. It's cute and cozy, the porch is wonderful, and the fenced in yard for our dog was perfect! Being directly across the street from the Ocean was a bonus! We rented a golf cart to get around the area, which was a great way to do it, with minimal parking in town. Having never been to South Carolina or Folly Beach, this was a great introduction, and we are sure to be back!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This house is exactly as it is described on the web site. The pictures do not show how charming it is. It was perfect for my husband and me and our dog. We loved being so close to the beach and the center of town. It was an easy drive into Downtown Charleston. We would definitely rent this home again--hopefully when the weather is warmer!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The "Love Shack" exceeded our expectations! BJ was so helpful prior to and upon our arrival. She was just an easy phone call away. All we had to do was unpack and enjoy. We welcomed the opportunity to meet GG and Roy who were so available if anything came up during our stay. We loved the classic beach house feel that was reflected in the interior design and decor. Zoe and Toby, our toy poodles, LOVED their daily walks to beach and the fenced in yard. The Love Shack was a perfect location and size for the four of us. We so enjoyed the Crab Shack, try the shrimp and grits. We became "regulars" at the Thursday night Bluegrass night and Monday-Open Mike Night. There is so much musical talent on Folly. We also made sure we had several hot dogs at Bert's. The Lost Dog Cafe was a favorite place to dine. especially on your birthday or Mimosa Mondays! We rode our bikes or walked everywhere. We also recommend that you try the calamari at The Grill. Folly Beach is now a favorite destination for our family. I started looking in August for a cottage at the beach, but close to Charleston that would allow dogs. I looked at every available property from Edisto to Sullivan's Island. I really wanted to be on Folly, but either the prices were too high or the reviews for the more affordable properties were questionable. We wanted it all, of course. After adjusting my search to a two bedroom, this great property popped up. I was anxious to reach the owner because it was now into October and everything was booking fast. B.J. was in the middle of renovating the shower in the bathroom, but graciously made time to assure that we didn't lose our dates. (Shower turned out great!!!) We arrived late at night and found the cottage warm, cozy, and clean. The red bedspreads were a perfect touch for Christmas. While small, the cottage is charming, perfectly located, and just right for me and my twin 17 year old girls. They loved the crow's nest and the wifi! I loved the backyard for the dogs, the location to everything, and the skylights in the front bedroom and den. The girls could walk into town or get to the beach easily. Our Standard Poodles loved the beach! I can't say enough good things about this property, Folly Beach, or Charleston itself. Don't miss walking to see the lighthouse, eating at The Crab Shack, Taco Boy, and The Lost Dog Cafe. Watch for the rowboat as you come into Folly that is constantly repainted to announce things. It was repainted 4 times during our stay! My teen girls, also, enjoyed the surfer's that took advantage of the waves after a big storm! We feel lucky to have had the opportunity to stay at this property and visit Folly Beach. We will be back and hope B.J. is still sharing her home when we return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Loved the little house!! GiGi was really nice and helpful. The owner was a dream to work with. The charm of Folly Beach is not available at any of the other area beach's. Must shop at Bert's Grocery Store. Hope to rebt again soon .Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The love shack is a marvelous place to stay! The location couldn't be better with easy access to both the each and the wonderful restaurants on center street without the exuberant price of staying right on the beach. The place is kept very clean and inviting. I'll be certin to make a return visit!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My husband and I love Folly beach...we visit every year for at least a week. We love rentals which allow our little yorkie, Roxy, to enjoy the beach. Love the location of the property, it is right across the street from beach access and there are great views from the screened in porch..which is a MUST because mosquitos are terrible. We enjoyed our stay at this location. There are plenty of bath towels and kitchen is fully stocked. The owner left one of the best books to read while visiting Folly....because it's called Folly Beach and the writer once lived in Folly..thanks again for that:) It's a short walk to center street..where all the shops/food are located...Lost Dog and Loggerheads are the BEST!!! Wish we could stay all year!!ThanksRecommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We had a great stay at the Love Shack! My teenage boys declared it "the best vacation house!" And as most people know, teenage boys rarely comment on anything...let alone a house. We loved the location as well as the at home feeling you get as soon as you enter the cottage. Next time we will bring our black lab....she would love it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: After a long career, I chose Charleston as my retirement home. What's so interesting about that is...I traveled several years in search of my perfect spot and ended up only 100 miles from home. Charleston is multi dimensional in what it offers. I enjoy the history, culture, art, music, and academia of downtown, but cherish most the beach, boating, and bohemian attitude of our barrier islands (Folly). So, for now, I lawyer a little with my downtown firm, and spend most of my time on the beach, water, or traveling. I now have two baby grandchildren in the area...so my traveling is taking a second seat.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
I chose Folly Beach for its relaxed atmosphere and convenience to downtown Charleston. I'm able to enjoy the beach just as I did as a teen at Folly because it has retained its identity.
