Historic Downtown Adobe Apartment Near Everything You Want!
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Charming historic downtown furnished adobe apartment, about 1/2 mile to the Santa Fe Plaza. If you see the calendar full for your dates, please send you inquiry anyway, because I can refer you to other places. About my place: WIFI, and satellite tv are there! Walking distance to DeVargas Mall, highway north and south, restaurants, museums, galleries, public transportation. Half of a duplex, the next-door neighbors have three friendly dogs in the large enclosed back yard and the resident cat, Sophia, stays in the front. The unit has all the equipment you need in the kitchen. There is a new washer and dryer.. The television is a flat screen and has a dvd player. The house is off the street 100 feet, where you get your own parking space to the right, not visible from the street.
PETS ARE NOT FORBIDDEN, BUT COULD EASILY ESCAPE! A CAT MUST NOT GO IN THE BACK YARD BECAUSE THERE ARE THREE DOGS THERE. The resident cat in the front, or stray cats, may not be nice to your cats. However, so far no animal has had a problem there. If there are stray cats, I trap and neuter them and try to get them adopted, or keep them fed at the property. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR PETS!
Relax on the front or back porches and enjoy the shade in the front in the summer.
This building was constructed in 1908 and is a remodeled historic double adobe. It was a wedding present to Minnie Barela. It has hardwood and tile floors and a tile bath. The heat is gas baseboard. There is art from local artists on the walls and Santa Fe touches. There are linens for the bed and the sofa bed. There is no cooling, but in twenty years one person has put a window unit AC in. I can provide a fan on request.
I aim to please so your comfort comes first.

Great Stay in Santa Fe!
Great Stay in Santa Fe!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property when visiting Santa Fe for a few days in April. Loved the privacy, the charming way the place was appointed, the proximity to everything we enjoy in the area. Everything was clean and well-maintained, and we felt very welcomed, right down to the chocolate chip cookies on the table when we arrived. We hope to return to this spot next time we are in the area. Definitely recommend this if you are looking for comfort and convenient location for a very reasonable price in Santa Fe.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Marcia: Thanks for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Janet

My friend and I stayed in this casita for 3 nights. It was a perfect size and location for our needs and wants. Easy to get to the plaza, museums and other tourist attractions, easy to get to stores so that we did not have to eat out every meal. It was a well stocked rental with plenty of towels, plates, etc. and some nice extras like coffee and cookies. I recommend this location highly,Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our Santa Fe rental experience was very satisfactory. The property is in a great location with private parking. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. The space included one rather large room with a queen-sized bed, convertible couch/bed, coffee table, two easy chairs, night stands beside the bed, lamps, wifi, TV, etc. There was also a seperate full kitchen with small table and two chairs and a bathroom with a good shower in the tub. Would this be called a one bedroom or a studio? I don't know. We saw no cat. The dogs mentioned by owner were no problem, although, they barked whenever we came or went. A neighbor's dog barked frequently and loudly in the middle of the night for 15 to 30 minutes. The owner was informed and is attempting to remedy this.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners.

My husband, baby and I stayed here recently for a long weekend. We didnt feel it was too small for the 3 of us, especially since it is bigger than most hotel rooms plus has a kitchen. Very good location, nice quiet neighborhood. The pictures are accurate-except the walls are light pink! The place was very clean-so clean we could still smell the chemicals (only complaint since were not used to harsh chemical smell). The owner was sick while we were there, but still called to make sure everything was OK. Would definitly recommend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+.

What a great little apartment! It is fully furnished, clean and blocks away from the Plaza. The owner was very helpful and even had a bag of cookies waiting for me upon my arrival. It is small so I would recommend it to singles or a couple. I will be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing.

The descriptions by the owner and previous tenant are accurate. In the unit, you experience quiet living in a traditional Santa Fe neighborhood. It seems to have more amenities and space than similarly priced units. The next door neighbors are particularly welcoming and helpful. The owner is anxious to please and full of suggestions on places to visit. The only caution is the half mile distance to the central plaza area. Because free parking is quite limited in Santa Fe’s downtown/ Canyon road area, even having a car often means a lengthy walk to popular spots - generally not a problem in Santa Fe's mild climate.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners.

I basically thru a friend rented this place sight unseen. It was such a wonderful surprise after the long flight from Australia to feel the spirit of New Mexico in this casita. I rented it from late February to early May...it was so comfortable. The owner Janet from day one was most attentive and helpful with anything I needed for the house. The internet service was great and while I was there she bought in a new washer and dryer. My next door neighbors were incredible and very very helpful, they made me feel at home immediately. The real surprise for me though came with the long time on- the- property kitty, Sophia. Who made my stay there even more special, with her unconditional love and warmth. I had a wonderful stay and would strongly recommend the place !Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: I am a long-time real estate broker in Santa Fe and have a 501 (c) (3) animal rescue organization that I manage and pay for by myself. I personally tend to this unit and try to make sure of a wonderful stay and customer satisfaction.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Historical Downtown:
The convenience and privacy of this location can't be beat. People call it a sanctuary. It is not visible from the main street, and neighbors face in other directions. I was impressed with the beauty and history of the building. When I bought it it needed complete remodeling, but the former owner was charging high rent for a run-down house over twenty years ago! I live in the neighborhood so it is convenient for me.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Many people enjoy this because they don't need a vehicle to go most places, in the ambience of a traditional neighborhood. Some have not had vehicles. You can walk to the mall and its two grocery stores, and walk all over downtown easily, or catch buses nearby. The other tenants are friendly. They have three dogs who will bark when someone shows up, but then calm down. I feel they are good for security. I have not had any crime experience in this neighborhood in over 15 years, but caution is always advisable.
