Joe's Pond in West Danville is the largest body of water in Vermont that is considered a pond and is actually three connected ponds. Our "Camp" was built on the middle pond in 1904 as a getaway by Mr. Carpenter, an alleged gambler. It was the second camp built on Joe's Pond, about 15' from the water's edge.
Relax on the glider or enjoy your morning coffee in the enclosed screen porch overlooking the water. Enjoy the breeze on the covered side porch. Picnic next to the outdoor fire pit. Throw a steak on the gas grill. Sunbathe on the dock or lawn in lounge chairs.
The pond can be seen from every window in this cozy camp, which retains much of the original charm with added conveniences: The new bathroom is heated, with a walk-in shower, adjustable height shower head and bath bench. The full kitchen includes an electric range/oven, a coffee-maker, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, variety of spices, condiments and pantry basics. Heat is provided by a Wood Pellet stove, thermostatically-controlled; pellets provided.
Enjoy 1/2 acre of woods and lawn, 175' of lake frontage, with a dock and shallow swimming area, 2 canoes and a rowboat (life jackets required and provided). Boat rentals are also available on the pond. Walk, jog or bicycle on the quiet lanes around the pond. Gas up, buy your morning paper, go for ice cream at the head of the pond: 2 country stores with café and craft shop.
Playgrounds and tennis courts are nearby. Also visit Cabot Creamery, makers of the World's Best Cheddar; Great Vermont Corn Maze; Danville Farmers' Market every Wednesday; Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium; Maple Grove Museum & Tours; and more!
Golf at the award-winning St. Johnsbury Country Club, as well as other small golf courses in the area.
