We recently stayed in the Captain's Quarters for a two night summer get-away with two kids, 9 and 11. The owner was very friendly and helpful, bringing us fresh beach towels every day and helping us get us and our luggage to and from the ferry landing. The rooms were very clean and well-maintained, and both beds were very comfortable (we were trying to find out who made the sleeper sofa so we could get one for our home). The listing photos accurately reflect the rental - the kids loved the decorations. We used both the video library and Monopoly board game that was found quickly in the initial exploration. The location was perfect - very close to restaurants, everything kids wanted to do (mini golf, rent boats off the pier) and easy walking distance even after long days spent exploring Descanso Beach area. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

A friendly and pleasant location

Shelton's is a sweet and lovely modest accomodation in the heart of Avalon in what is usually a quiet neighborhood. It's far enough away from the main strip noise but close enough to walk everywhere . Our host graciously met us at the dock with a golf cart to carry our luggage and take us to our destination. It was just as we hoped it would be. Everything you would need, or may have forgotten to bring, is here. Jeannie is so helpful and full of information. We would recommend Shelton's with no hesitation for couples or a small family with a couple of kids.

Perfect living space

Visiting Avalon after 40 years and taking my family who had never been to the island, we found the Sheltons charming cottage perfect for our family of four. The property is located on a charming side street where the teenaged kids could run back and forth into town to shop while we sat on the porch and had morning coffee planning our day. Jeannie was so helpful and delightful making us feel like we were her house guests rather than renters. The small space had everything you needed for all your activities including great beach towels and a full kitchen for cooking. The kids and my husband enjoyed sampling the perfumes from the bathroom counter. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return to the Sheltons Triplex another time in the near future.

I liked reading what you wrote in our guess book, about your favorite adventures snorkeling in Lover's Cove, Parasaling from the green pier, the nighttime ghost tours and that bringing bikes and riding up & down & all around was a great workout! I agree. Yes, it was a fantastic 4 days for a Mom's Birthday!

Clean and cozy

We stayed in the Shelton's "Captain's Quarters" 9/17-19/2010, it was clean, cozy, and stocked with everything we needed. Had a wonderful weekend. The place was perfect for the two of us for our mom/daughter get-away. Wonderful location - easy walk to everything, but off the main, busy streets, so nice and quiet. Von's is a short walk away, too, which was nice for picking up groceries so we could have breakfast "in" and easy to pack picnic lunches for beach or hike days. Jeannie picked us up and returned us to the ferry, which was great. I was going to post some pictures, but dropped and broke my camera the last day - hope to be able to get the pics off the memory card, and will add later if I can. I liked that we weren't right at street level so that the few people who did walk by didn't look right in the windows at us. We will plan to stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Shelton's in October 2008. We had a wonderful time. The house is equipped with everything we needed and has a warm and welcoming feel. Besides being spotless it is tastefully decorated and a perfect place to kick off your flip-flops at the end of an exciting day in Avalon. Jeannie is a wonderful host. Besides picking us up at the landing when we arrived she was helpful with all the questions that we had about the island.
