Location: Waynesville, Smoky Mountains, North Carolina, USA (25 minute drive from Asheville)

Accommodations:  House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 8-12)

Keywords:  Log House, log cabin, mountain view

A true mountain experience awaits you in this beautiful new log home, located on a private, gated property just minutes from charming downtown Waynesville. We call it "Locust Hill" because it is finished with unique craftsman details such as locust-branch porch railings, handmade doors with forged iron door latches, and stone fireplace. The house is furnished with country antiques, braided rugs, and quality new furniture including king and queen beds. All bedrooms plus sleeping loft have mountain views.

Rustle up some breakfast in the convenient kitchen with stainless appliances, solid cherry cabinets, copper farm sink, and granite counter tops, then head out for a fun day of hiking and picnicking in nearby Smoky Mountain National Park, shopping in Waynesville and Maggie Valley, or gallery-hopping in Asheville--or just relax at home and enjoy the view of Cold Mountain and the Blue Ridge Parkway from the swing on the 12-foot-wide screened porch! Tired muscles will appreciate the whirlpool bathtub in the master bath.

Later, while the kids head for the roomy downstairs playroom, sink into one of the leather sofas by the fire and read, watch cable TV, or send a “wish you were here” note to friends via wireless Internet. Have a dinner to remember, around the long table lit atmospherically by an antique chandelier or beyond the French doors on the porch; the stereo system boasts speakers both inside and out. New, comfy mattresses with feather duvets await. Open the casement window and have your best sleep in ages in the cool mountain air!

Locust Hill offers an admirable balance of country charm and modern comfort. Our home also offers high speed wireless Internet, TVs with DVDs and Direct TV Plus package in 3 of the bedrooms as well as in the living room/great room. There is high-speed Internet service via satellite and a Linksys wireless router.

The house has 2200 heated square feet and was built with loving care by local craftsmen, who finished work in the spring of 2007. As you can tell, we are pleased with every detail and look forward to sharing it all with people who are looking for a vacation to remember!

Owner's Profile

Why the Owner Chose Waynesville

We built Locust Hill in 2007. It was a dream of ours for many years to build on this property, up the hill from Robert's brother, who is a blacksmith artist and very close to our family.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Cool air, mountain views, peaceful times on the porch, nightly dinner parties with family. A magical place for us! In our guest book, people have written about feeling immediately at home when they walk in.

Thank you so much for sharing your incredibly beautiful home! The views were just fantastic and the fires at night were the perfect ending to our days. Your home offers just peace and tranquility with mother nature surrounding it. It was the perfect get a-way for our family. We thank you again for sharing your “mountain top” home—mother earth is incredibly beautiful from this mountain view!

Your love for nature and family is so evident in every detail of your home. The pictures don’t do it justice. We were at home the moment we walked in. Next time we may not leave the property until we have to head for home. We have found “our Western NC Mountain hideaway”!

It took very little time—about ½ hour, actually—to feel at home here. It was hard to leave even for fun things like riding at Cataloochee, French Broad rafting, hiking, or day trips to Asheville, but the gorgeous house and the magnetic porch drew us back early every time. Everything from the lovely stonework on the fireplace to beautiful tilework in the bathrooms, “rustic” wood everywhere, even under-the-floor-boards netting on the porch, shows incredible attention to detail that is much appreciated. We do hope to come back!
