Our time spent at Rancho Picaso was everything we had hoped for, and more. The house is in a great location for any activity you can imagine. It is in close proximity to fishing charters, waterfalls, zip lines, and multiple ecotours. The surf is only a few minutes walk away and viewing wildlife is as simple as sitting on the back porch. We saw spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, hawks, macaws, blue morphos, jesus lizards, crocs, and otters without ever leaving the property. Carlos (home owner) was a great host and made our stay much better than it would have been had we not met him. He showed us the best spots to surf, let us hitch rides to the bar, and taught us some of the local cooking methods. The kitchen had all the neccessary utencils to cook your own meals, or you can eat at a soda in town. I recommend the bakery, pizza mailit, or Martina's. All in all I have nothing but good things to say about the osa peninsula and our time spent at Rancho Picaso. I highly recommend staying here if your considering a trip to Costa Rica. Everyone we met was very kind and everyday was a new adventure.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It has been a few years since I stayed here but Rancho Picasso is fantastic! The beach is endless and not commercial at all. You can surf, climb for coconuts, shell, hunt for crabs in the sand, and enjoy the location without leaving. The house is very comfortable with many amenities. The hammocks are strategically placed for the views and the breeze. Birding and tropical garden enthusiasts will find everything they are looking for. Plenty to do within one hour of Puerto Jimenez. Can't wait to go backRecommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We had some of the best surfing and fishing during our stay at Rancho Picaso. In one trip we caught a Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Rooster Fish, and Red Snapper for cooking . The next day we were lucky enough to find a school of dolphin feeding on yellowfin tuna so we circled them and pulled in several which we cut up and had right on the boat with wasabi and ginger. The captains know the waters and take you where you will catch fish! The surf was great and the owners local knowledge helped us read the tides and find waves every day when we weren't fishing. After a busy day it was nice to just chill in the hammocks on the beach and watch the sunsets. Being able to have a bonfire on the beach at night with friends under the incredible star filled sky was also a perk, because you are on 2.5 acres of private property. The locals are friendly and you feel very safe at this 3 bedroom home on the Osa Peninsula, unlike may of my surf trips to other areas in the past!Did you find this review helpful? We didn't go to the Osa for the fishing, restaurants, hiking, or sightseeing. We needed a place to unwind from a hectic pace and just relax...Rancho Picaso was the ultimate destressor. Have you forgotten what the wind sounds like rustling through the palms? The sound of the surf on a gentle role or during a high tide storm? How long has it been since you've traded rush hour traffic for the sound of a birds' wings in flight? Have you ever seen monkeys traverse the canopy above a path leading to the beach? The natural beauty of the foliage is brilliant, awe inspiring, and can be viewed from any room in Rancho Picaso. The proprietor was knowledgeable of the surrounding areas and made us feel as welcomed as family in this awesome home. The accomodations were comfortable, clean, and well maintained. The best thing about Rancho Picaso is that you can just do nothing or you can do anything you want: perfect for a first or second honeymoon, and enough activities to keep the whole family on the go for more than a week! We'll be going back next year as tourist and have invited friends to share the experience of the beautiful Osa Pensisula.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
