If you do choose to leave, the charming down of Occidental is just down the hill. Nearby Freestone is home of the "sticky bun" at Wild Flour Bakery, and the incredible day spa, Osmosis. Bodega Bay and the ocean are 5 miles away (take Coleman Valley Road for the famous views). And then there is the glorious Sonoma wine country just 30 minutes away featuring premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
