This luxurious home is one of a kind: it is large enough effortlessly to accommodate an extended family or several smaller ones in comfort and style. The beach house is an upscale and gorgeous property with a wide sandy beach, breathtaking views, and every amenity included, but it has a relaxed and cheerful lakeside feel. We still have availability for Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as early summer 2010.
Located between the charming villages of Northport and Omena on Michigan’s beautiful Leelanau Peninsula, this spacious and beautifully appointed upscale beach house is situated directly on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay, with over 150 feet of private, wide sandy beach in a secluded wooded setting. Enjoy blissful days filled with sunning, swimming, boating, skiing, beachcombing, grilling, and spending true quality time with your family and friends. (Please see the comments from our past guests). From the beach house, you will be treated to stunning sunrises over the water each morning and tranquil evenings where the colors of the sunset reflect off the bay.
The wooded, 2.13 acre lot provides a sense of pleasant seclusion, screened from neighbors on either side.
Constructed of stone and cedar, this expansive home has bright indoor spaces with large picture windows offering unobstructed views of the bay and "Gull Island." The two story living room is warmed by a natural stone fireplace. French doors off the entry hall open to a den with Satellite TV, a perfect place to unwind from the day's activities. The outdoor patios on the bayside, one with an electric retractable awning, provide additional living spaces for dining and relaxing.
The dining room facing the bay, which has floor to ceiling windows and beadboard wainscoting, has a large farmhouse table that will seat 10 comfortably. Additional seating is available in the adjacent living room or on the patio directly accessible from the dining room. The charming kitchen, with custom beadboard cabinets and top quality appliances, is fully equiped to prepare gourmet meals and serve all of your guests.
With five bedrooms and four baths, the home sleeps from 14 to 18 people very comfortably, and is perfect for a large and/or extended family, or several smaller families. All the bedrooms are spacious and provide ample sleeping space without crowding. On the first floor there is a large master suite with gorgeous views of the bay, a sitting area, and a private entrance from the patio. A second bedroom on the first floor has a queen bed and its own bath. Upstairs are three bedrooms: one has a queen bed and another has a queen and two twins. These two bedrooms share a full bath. Finally, there is a huge upstairs suite with a private bath accessible from a back staircase with four twin beds -- perfect for the kids. If the beds are not enough to accommodate your party, there are two brand new sofa beds -- a full size in the den and a queen in the living room.
The home’s interior has been updated with all new furnishings and rugs, top quality brand new beds, fresh paint, new light fixtures, newly-tiled baths and laundry room, updated bath cabinetry and hardware, and maple flooring throughout. The home is elegantly but casually and cheerfully decorated, and fully equipped with all of the comforts of home, including books and games for all ages.
The beach house opens onto a beautiful wide sandy beach, complete with a dock, boat hoist and swimming ladder. With a gradual slope, crystal clear water, and sandy bottom, the beach is an ideal place for children to safely enjoy the beach and lake. Only a strip of lawn -- perfect for croquet or horseshoes -- separates the house from the beach. No climbing down dunes or stairs or navigating winding paths. Beach chairs, beach towels, toys and kayaks for exploring the bay are provided. The sandy cove invites long strolls in search of Petoskey stones and other treasures. After a day on the beach, you can enjoy the newly added outdoor shower, ot nap in the hammock. The home is on a cove in Grand Traverse Bay, with calmer waters, making it perfect for small craft boating and skiing. In the evening, enjoy the colors of the sunset reflecting off the bay, and gather around a beach fire (we have a large fire pit on the beach).
Our home is also a perfect wedding venue, offering a memorable private setting. Local catering offers the unique foods and wines of the Leelanau Peninsula.
The fantastic "Up North" experience does not end with summer. Enjoy spectacular foliage, biking, golfing, hiking, and wine tasting while while making this beautiful beach house your home base during the color season, at attractive rates. Our home is just a few miles from some of the most popular Leelanau Penninsula wineries, and is the perfect home base for winery tours.
The beach house is also an ideal place to celebrate the holidays or spend a winter ski weekend. Nestled in the woods, you can snuggle in with the family, cook up your holiday feast, and gather round a roaring fire. We are only a half hour drive from family freindly cross country and downhill skiing at the Homestead, and Crystal Mountain is just over an hour away. Ask about out Thanksgiving and Christmas specials for 2009.

Why the Owner Chose Northport
We wanted to have a slice of this heavenly place and to share it with other families. It is hard to imagine another place where children and adults of all ages can find so much enjoyment. It has it all: a beautiful beach, clear clean waters, boating, fishing, biking, fresh local fish, wine and produce, charming villages with charming shops and the incomparable feeling that only comes with being right on the water.
The Unique Benefits at this Beachfront Home
Our property is truly one of a kind. It is secluded in the woods, directly on the beach, and offers stunning views of the bay and Gull Island. But more importantly, it is large enough for a large or extended family, or several families vacationing together, to pass glorious northern Michigan days in comfort and luxury, together but with plenty of space. It is casually elegant, like being at an upscale beach resort but with all the amenities and personal touches to allow whoever is staying there to feel that it is their own private home, where they can entertain, relax, and treasure one perfect day after the other.
Here you will find a charming village with a marina, shops, a full service grocery, and restaurants (try the Eat Spot for fantastic pizza). And don't miss Barb's Bakery for her world famous cinnamon t
Not to be missed, Leland, also known as "Fishtown", has an abundance of shops. Carlson's has fresh locally caught fresh and smoked fish. You will find fudge, art, fishing gear and more.
Just past Woolsey Airport (an old fashioned grass runway) on the way to Lighthouse State Park you will find miles of hiking trails through thick woods that lead to the rougher waters of the "big lake"
If you want to see a perfect sunset over Lake Michigan, with a spectacular panoramic view of the islands, plan on an evening at Peterson Park. The kids will enjoy the playgroud too. Sublime.
Just two miles from the beach house, Omena is the home of Leelanau Cellars, one of the area's many vinyards. They have a tasting room right on the water, in the same building as a waterfront restaura
Restaurants, shops, galleries, gallore...Even a movie theatre. Many wineries are nearby, including Blackstar farms which is also the home of Leelanau Cheese.
It has been around as long as I can remember. This family friendly/family owned bar is still dishing up the best burgers on the planet, and oh we love that bar broasted chicken.
Owner's Map of Northport
As I was a small child, I vacationed every summer at my grandmother's rustic and charming fishing cabin on Seven Pines Road in Northport. All my memories are of carefree days, roaming the beach, frolicking in the bay, exploring the beautiful woods, gourging on fresh berries, and staying up very late near a blazing beach fire. When I went away to school, I looked forward to bringing friends from far away to this special place. My husband Andy was one of them, and loves Northport as much as I do. Every summer since our marriage we have gone there, first just the two of us with our books and bicycles, and later with our five children. Although we have been lucky enough to have travelled to may places, Northport remains our very favorite place on the planet.
