Terrific experience!

For two years in a row, I have rented this cute little garden apartment on Bush Street ,each time for the month of January. The space is 'roomy' and 'homey' and has all of the amenities that one would want. Location-wise Lower Pacific Heights is perfect. One gets a nice sense of neighborhood. It's close to either the 'California Avenue' or 'Geary Avenue' bus lines. If you want groceries, it's an easy walk to Trader Joe's. If you walk up to Pacific Heights, you will have a magnificent view of San Francisco Bay. It's a 'WOW!' Of course, your hosts,Po and Daryl ,are terrific. They are friendly, fun and always available to help. For me it's 'my place' to stay when I visit this wonderful city.

The studio was fantastic. It was the perfect place for us. There was plenty of room and everything was well maintained. We didn't have a car and never needed one. There are plenty of restaurants and attractions within easy walking distance. Po was very helpful with suggestions. We would highly recommend this property.

Ideal location for our first visit to San Francisco!

My husband and I always try to look for self-catering rentals when traveling; we find them to be a much better value and far more comfortable than staying at a hotel. Over the years we’ve found many gems, but Po and Darryl’s studio apartment now tops our list. From my initial inquiry until the end of our stay, Po was most responsive and helpful in confirming arrangements and providing information. She welcomed us to their home (she and Darryl live on the top floor), gave us directions to the grocery (3 block walk), restaurant and transportation recommendations, etc. The apartment is situated in a lovely residential neighborhood; we felt very safe walking throughout the area both day and night. By staying in a residential neighborhood we explored the city as temporary locals instead of seeing only the tourist areas. The location is two blocks from Divisadero Street with numerous shops/services available; bus stops are one or two blocks away with connections throughout the city, so no need for a car. For a breathtaking first glimpse of the waterfront and the Golden Gate, walk up Lyon Street (one block away with spectacular views at the top!) along the Presidio and down into the Marina. As indicated by other reviewers, the apartment itself is very spacious, clean and well-appointed. In addition to the fridge and microwave, the kitchen area is fully equipped with cookware and a stove top (not evident in the photo). Eating in for breakfast (while enjoying the view of the garden!) and occasional late night suppers enabled us to splurge a bit more when dining out. The apartment has a private entrance and its location at the rear of the house makes it very quiet with no street noise to be heard. In the morning we did hear guests in the apartment above (a magnificent three-bedroom rental idea for families VRBO # 182399) as they, too, began their day, but this is to be expected in a three-unit house. Upon arrival we were so thrilled to have found such an ideal apartment that we decided to return to SF for a couple of days at the end of our travels in northern California. To our dismay, the studio was not available for the two days we had in mind, but the following week we were delighted to receive an unexpected call from Po who had a cancellation for the dates in question – hooray! How wonderful to return “home” for an encore stay to cap off our trip – thank you, Po and Darryl!!

The perfect location for a San Francisco neighborhood experience and for visiting the City

We found this quiet and quaint studio exceptionally clean on our arrival. We felt throughout our very pleasant stay that it had everything we needed and that it was very well equipped and very tastefully furnished. The owners were extremely forthcoming and helpful, and were always available when needed. The studio's posting on vrbo.com reflected exactly the studio that we had the good luck to live in for almost a week. The location is ideal to explore the city of SF with all public transportation modalities being within short reach. Moreover, it offers a distinct and pleasant neighborhood experience with neat neighborhood restaurants and bars within a couple of blocks and a host of other breakfast and dining options within a few more blocks. We particularly enjoyed the Fillmore/Pine Street area with a fabulous, true French Boulangerie on Pine Street (near Fillmore)---you will never forget their croissants and fresh baguettes. Just around the corner, we found Florio, a charming French bistro with a very energetic crowd at dinner time. We have rented quite a few different properties through vrbo over the past years and it is fair to say that this one ranks easily in the top 10%. We would recommend it to any of our family members and friends.

perfect little getaway for two in the heart of the city!

Date of Stay: 03/25/11 Review Submitted: 03/30/11

we needed a last-minute place to crash just for the weekend, and we found this unit. it exemplifies everything we love about doing VRBOs vs. hotels - you can cook and do laundry for yourself, you get to know the owner personally, it's usually in a quiet residential neighborhood and not on a busy city street, and the service is individualized. in terms of the actual space, it was just fine -- a good size, with all the right amenities. very quiet. the only thing we heard was the other renter family upstairs, walking around for a bit - then it was quiet again. it was very clean, and easy to clean at the end of our stay. I usually like a little more natural light, but then again, all we did was sleep there, and for a bottom-floor unit it was great! convenient to everything - between walking and using our MUNI passes, we could get everywhere. would recommend this to others looking for a similar experience in sf!

A Valuable Experience

Guest: Moe (Duxbury MA)
Date of Stay: 10/18/10 Review Submitted: 10/24/10

The concept of not being in a hotel appeals to me. I like being on my own without the staff, mints and associated hotel values. If taking care of yourself in a fully equipt unit doesn't appeal to you, San Francisco has many fine hotels. If you like being in control of your life and there is no more than a pair of you, you can't do better. Every kitchen tool required is at hand. There are markets, including the wonderful Mollie Stone, within blocks. I walked but there is plenty of public transportation. I went to visit family but it works for "tourists" too. The owners have stocked the place with guides and gave me leads to places to eat. If available when I go back to San Francisco, I'd go to the same place again. I recommend it to anyone but hope nobody will be there when I want to use it. It works for me.

terrific location, lovely garden

Guest: Lynnell Mickelsen (Minneapolis, MN)
Date of Stay: 05/31/10 Review Submitted: 06/07/10

We loved this place. It's a large, one-room studio on the ground floor/basement. But it's surprisingly light and airy because of the hardwood flooring, furnishings and walk-out patio/ small garden areas, which even came with a Webber grill (although we didn't use it because we were taking advantage of all the great San Fran. restaurants.) Still, it was great to be able to open the windows and patio door and the place felt like our home, as opposed to part of a hotel chain. I also prefer this style of lodging to bed-and-breakfast places, which I tend to find too fussy or frilly. Darryl and Po live upstairs and are gracious and generous hosts. The studio is two blocks in either direction from major bus routes. We didn't have a car; so we used buses to get everywhere and it was easy. I'd stay here again in a heart-beat.

Thank you for your hospitality and making our stay comfortable. The location is great. Japantown was really fun! It really felt like living in the City. This is much better than a hotel! The studio is spacious and the bed is comfortable. Thanks again!
