Miriam's House at Jordan River Farm is the main house on a 328 acre green estate in scenic Rappahannock County, approximately 70 miles west of Washington, D.C.
The house, parts of which date back to the Colonial Period, features 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room with two sofas, and a full kitchen including dinnerware. There is a two-tiered patio and 16 foot gazebo overlooking a one acre pond brimming over with bass, blue gill and catfish, and breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We now have a Contour Paddle Boat! We also have over 1000 feet of lake frontage on a 5 acre lake with excellent fishing there as well.
Jordan River Farm is about a mile across and borders on other large estates, so if you would like to hike to the Jordan River or fish the 5 acre back lake, please ask for a brief car tour and map or you could get lost! Much of the far end of the farm is in a wild and natural state, so staying here is like having your own private state park. Please keep your pets on a leash or you could easily lose them!
Jordan River Farm was farmed chemical free since 1971, and was the first farm in the state to be officially certified organic in 1988. The entire farm is protected in perpetuity against subdivision and toxic chemicals by the Virginia Outdoors Foundation and Chesapeake Bay Foundation easements, making it the most environmentally restricted private property in the state. We ask that you do not litter or remove plants or rocks during your stay.
We are in the heart of Virginia wine and hunt country with many wineries and riding events within a few minutes drive of the farm. Rappahannock County is also host to many fine restaurants including the world famous Inn at Little Washington. We are only a 20 minute drive from Skyline Drive, near Front Royal, Virginia.
Join us in our environmental vision and experience a moment of peace at The Jordan River Farm.

Why the Owner Chose Front Royal
The farm is on a single-lane secluded gravel road and yet is easy driving to the nearest village, 4 miles away, or town, 12 miles away. You can bring your own food and cook up a storm in our fully equipped kitchen, or dine out at many of the fine restaurants in the area.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The farm is about a mile across, so you can hike, fish and picnic without leaving the property. It's like having your own private state park. I have enhanced the historic character of the house while still maintaining modern amenities.
With it's wide-open spaces, the farm is great for pets of all kinds. Walk or drive to the 5 acre lake and enjoy the multitude of wildlife here.
Owner's Map of Front Royal
My wife, Miriam, and I have been farming here, chemical free since 1971, and were the first farm in the state to be officially certified organic in 1988. It was too much work for me to continue farming after her death in 2001, so I made the main farmhouse, now called "Miriam's House", into a vacation rental. I have revamped and "spiffed up" the grounds to appeal to the vacation guests, such as an extended patio, 16 foot gazebo and Contour Paddle Boat.
The entire 328 acres is protected by two separate easements, ensuring the environmental integrity of the property in perpetuity. It is our long-standing commitment to "green" values has made Jordan River Farm the most environmentally protected private property in the state, if not the country. It is my pleasure to introduce you to a truly secluded, peaceful and natural vacation experience.
