Owner's Profile

Why the Owner Chose Raystown Lake

Our family purchased acreage on Piney Ridge in 1971 to take advantage of the newly formed Raystown Lake, built a road, cleared the land, roasted many a hotdog over burning brush piles, and finally built the cottage in 1974. It has been the site of many reunions, a wedding, a few honeymoons, anniversary & birthday celebrations, and Thanksgiving dinner has been a tradition here since 1974. Two of our guests became engaged here last summer! The cottage has been well used & well loved. We chose the spot for its proximity to the lake to take advantage of the many activities such as boating, skiing, swimming and fishing. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Home Away From Home

This beautiful cottage is everything as advertised plus much more! It is impeccably maintained, immaculately clean, and has every kitchen gadget you need from a crockpot to mountain pie makers. There were four adults and a dog and it was the perfect size. The location is close enough to a boat launch, hiking at Balance Rock, but far enough away to provide the peacefulness of the mountains. Julie promptly answered any questions that I had and she had a basket filled with the necessities to make s'mores. Thank you for sharing your mountain retreat Julie & Shaun. We will definately come back.

The beds, sheets and towels are better that some motels and cabin so cozy feeling with comfortable furniture. We will definitly go back for it's a nice ride from home and it also so easy to get to, garmin took us right there!!!!! THANK YOU Julie and Shawn for sharing your home.

This place is lovely!! We shared breakfast on the deck every morning with the hummingbirds and stargazed at night. Never see this many stars in the city! It was a wonderful place to unwind after a day of boating and hiking. Thanks for opening your home to us - you've thought of everything! See you next year!

Cozy, charming cottage

Date of Stay: 06/19/11 Review Submitted: 06/24/11

My family of 5 and our dog really enjoyed our stay. There are bird feeders all around the front and I've never seen so many hummingbirds and gold finches. The home was clean and all the furnishings were comfortable. Julie and Shawn really make you feel like a guest by providing smores fixings and allowing use of their condiments. We enjoyed using the fire pit more than once. The home is conveniently located within 5 miles to the main attractions of Lake Raystown (the resort and waterpark, the beaches at Tatman Run, and hiking trails at Trough Creek). I can't say enough nice things about the home and it's owners. Thank you.

A Charming and Warm Getaway!

We stayed for an extended weekend in August of 2010. The owners were very warm in welcoming us to their cabing even though we didn't meet them in person. We found plenty of smores fixings and wood back at the cabin for a great way to end our days swimming and boating by the Raystown Lake. The cabin is furnished and decorated in a familial setting and shares with you the pride of having this cabin. It is well kept and found to be an excellent way to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city. The photos that are on the site due reflect the true nature of this cabin and its grounds, There are plenty water activities to do along with a zip line that has just been built this year. For those that like the outdoors this is the place to be. Everything from hiking in the woods (trails nearby at the parks) to the various water activities this area has it. The cabin is at most a 15-20 min drive away. We enjoyed it so much that we are thinking of returning in the fall! THANK YOU for having this place and for sharing it with others!

Need to get away just to relax. This is the place to go. Very clean, peaceful and quiet. We used to go tent camping so we were prepared and took everything with us. Not this place, all we would have needed was our clothes and food. It has all the comforts of home. We had extremely hot weather but had the luxury of air conditioning to go into. We took our dogs with us and they loved it as well. We will be returning next year!

LOVED IT! Thanks a million for everything. We loved the country decor, the special touches like the smore basket & candy, and the fresh cut flowers. Spent lots of time relaxing on the deck or around the fire in the evenings. So close to the boat launch & beautiful Trough Creek park - enjoyed the "bouncing bridge" there. See you same time next year!
