"The Gatehouse" at "Wabi-Sabi Cottage" was designed and built by architect Willaim Magill Thompson in 2002. It's main features include the location in quaint New England Village of Sheepscot on The King's Highway, just 4 miles from the town centers of Newcastle or Wiscasset. The Gatehouse has a beautiful wooden spiral staircase to the bedrooms on the second floor, one with french doors to a patio overlooking the tidal Sheepcot River which empties into the Atlantic Ocean just a few miles away. It is furnished with antiques and "shabby chic" finds from local antique dealers. There is bamboo flooring throughout the cottage. A full screen porch with a view to the water is off the kitchen, with a sundeck above accessed through the french doors in the second story bedroom. The sundeck has a table and chairs for enjoying an evening glass of wine before bed.
The spiral staircase narrows and climbs to a third story tower to read and overlook the 270 degrees of protected land in the cove and shoreline.
The Gatehouse is connected to "The Bookshouse" which is the private personal library of the owners. Home-made sticky buns or donuts are available to be delivered to the cottage one morning of your stay. A complimentary/optional (subject to availability of the owners) 3 course dinner with the owners in their home, with your choice of Maine scallops or spaghetti is included. They love to meet new & interesting people.
Bill's wife Joan loves to cook and will leave home-made chocolate chip cookies for your arrival at "The Gatehouse at Wabi-Sabi Cottage".
