My wife and our 3 children stayed here for a couple of nights. What a nice cabin to spend family time in. It is very spacious with 3 bedrooms and a large open living area. We had everything we needed for our stay. The kids shared a bedroom down stairs and we took over the "loft". The location isn't in the boonies, but it is far enough off the road that there is peace and quite. There are a few other cabins in the area, but we didn't feel crowed at all. Being near Hill City is the best spot in the Hills. It is convenient to Mr. Rushmore, Bear County, and Rapid City. The hot tub was great for the children as well as the adults. Don't hesitate to stay here, especially in the off season. Make sure to look for the local deer as well as the extremely friendly neighborhood dog, Sunny.

Our family stayed at the Outlaw Inn towards the end of July (2011) for three nights. Wish we could have stayed another two days, at least! When we walked in, our jaws kind of dropped and the kids all said, "WOW!" in unison. The "cabin" (home) was phenomenal and we enjoyed our stay thoroughly! The location was ideal in that it was close to all the attractions of the southern Black Hills, yet nestled in the trees and hills in semi seclusion. It was darn near perfect for the eight of us. AND decorated so beautifully as well! AND well stocked with everything we could possibly need/use. Can't say enough good things about it! We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone wishing to visit the Black Hills area.
Owner response:It is always great to have someone take the time to post a review like this! We hope others will benefit from the review and be guests at the Outlaw Inn.

Our group of 8 could not stop talking about how beautiful, spacious, and clean this magnificent cabin was!! We planned to spend most of our vacation hiking and sight-seeing, but found ourselves wanting to sit by the fire and sit in the awesome hot-tub! Within 2 miles of the cabin we saw elk, turkeys, whitetail deer, bald eagles, and bighorn sheep! We couldn't believe the wildlife!! The deer came right into the yard of the cabin. After dark we could shine flashlights out the window and see them bedded right out front! The restuarants in Hill City are top-notch! There is SO MUCH hiking and exploring to do that we are coming back in 2011! In fact, most of our group wants to make this a yearly trip so we will probably be back many times. With a place that is as comfortable as this and with it set in such a beautiful and magestic location ~ who wouldn't want to come back??? There is so much to do and see and experience here! To those who haven't been here yet I would say "Try it! You'll be back again and again!!" Mr. Benning and the group at Heart of the Hills Vacation Homes are experts in customer service! They are ALWAYS a pleasure to do business with and will go out of their way to do anything you need to make your trip the trip of a lifetime! Thank you VERY much!

That's what the Outlaw Inn feels like to me. The location is accessible and yet you feel like you are there alone. You have wildlife, deer came up to our windows almost and the beautiful scenery from every window! Very clean and the cabin is furnished with such taste! The kitchen is fabulous and has almost everything you need and that is so nice when you are packing and it is very unusual to find such attention to detail. It is close to Rapids City, Hill City, & Keystone with all the amenities for restaurants, gifts, gas & wine! You can take beautiful walks. I would recommend this property to my most picky friends & family. We have visited in the late Spring as well as in the winter months. I would not consider staying anywhere else in this area.

My husband, five children and I went to South Dakota this past week for vacation and had a wonderful time partially due to the hospitality and excellent care provided by the staff that cares for the the Outlaw Inn. Our arrangements were easily made and reasonably priced. Upon arrival we were welcomed and our cabin was even decorated for the Christmas season. The cabin was in perfect condition with an amazing amount of room. We had a little trouble with the hot tub but the staff was quickly out to repair the problem and checked the next day to make sure everything was okay. We even recieved a goodbye call to make sure our stay was satisfactory. I would without question stay at the Outlaw Inn again. Thanks for a wonderful vacation.

This is a very comfortable cabin, neat and clean and nicely decorated the only issues we had were the grill and the dish washer. We attempted to cook out our dinner but the grill would not put out enough heat to cook our steaks. We could hold our hands over the flames and not have to move them. We only used the dishwasher once as it leaked onto the floor. We thought the cabin would be a little more in the woods or pasture land but busy hwy right at the end of our lane but all in all a nice place to stay.
Owner response:It is unfortunate that this guest did not call us about the grill and dishwasher issues during their stay, but chose to report the issues in this venue. We always provide guests with a direct number to contact us if there are any problems. In the case of the grill, we would have advised this guest to replace the gas tank with the spare tank that is kept on the premises. Gas tanks often get "vapor lock" if they are turned on too quickly or if the tank is low. In the case of the dishwasher, this has been and remains a mystery to us and to the service repairman who has been called out twice in the past few months to identify the leaking problem. It only leaks periodically and never when the repairman is there! None the less, it appears replacement of the dishwasher may be the only answer. This reviewer would lead future guests to think this cabin sits on a busy highway. While it is conveniently located near Highway 16, it sits well off the highway, around a hillside that protects it from the view and noise of the highway. I hope one of our many repeat guests will confirm the peaceful serene location of this cabin.

I've stayed at this cabin numerous times with just my husband and with our large family. It is spacious and will be everthing your looking for in a relaxing stay in the hills. The setting is perfect with Big Horn sheep, deer, Blue Herrings,Owls (just to name a few) and so many great views. Your only seconds from Hill City, Sherdian Lake and sooo many other GREAT attractions in the hills. The Cabin has a large kitchen table so the whole family can eat together, play games and just visit. The hot tub is a great size for lots of people. I can't say enough good things about our stays at this cabin and the owners who have always been available for any need we had!!!
