- Wheel chair accessible:No
'SpruceLedge Cabin', built in 2007, is a cozy, private, spectacular salt-waterfront vacation retreat on Maine's New Meadows River. Its remote woodland location is in the town of West Bath, on a peninsula just 15 minutes south of coastal Route 1. Dramatic sunset views from its rugged slopeside location. Perfect for couples, and sleeps 4 adults: one bedroom with twin beds (with additional king-size mattress loft over), premium queen sleep sofa in living room. Full bath, modern kitchenette, outside deck with bar, laundry, other amenities. Easily-navigated 24/7 boating access, secure mooring, large private deep water dock with utilities for visiting tie-ups. Perfect for coastal yachtsman’s private land base while cruising the beautiful Maine coast. Public transportation, restaurants, museums, theater, galleries, fitness, beaches, marinas and other facilities available in nearby Bath, Brunswick, Freeport, etc. No smoking, pets or open fires. Ours is a steep site, so ask about suitability for toddlers and the infirm.
Amenities' Details: Laundry (washer/dryer) & hospitality service room off deck. Jotul 'chill chaser' (gas) stove in living room.
Entertainment/Computer Access: CD / DVD / AM&FM radio / Hi-Definition Cable TV w/DVR / High-Speed W-Fi Internet Access.
Outside: Deck includes patio furniture seating 4-plus. Beverage service/storage room keeps hospitality 'out of my kitchen'. Ambient deck lighting at night enhances one's enjoyment of sunsets. Stainless Char-Broil BBQ. An additional gas tripod allows off-deck use of a large hospitality lobster / corn pot (provided). Private deep water dock with night-time lighting, adjacent heavy-duty mooring and 24-ft float has 24/7 utility (no mud outs), 30-Amp AC power and fresh water for boater tie-ups. On-site Services: A post-departure cleaning by Housekeeper is required ($95), with extra multi-week cleanings in accordance with the rental agreement.
Amenities' Details: Cellphone reception at SpruceLedge Cabin is good, depending on the device, service host, other conditions and where caller is standing (outside on deck, inside, etc). Subject to availability, the hard line telephone offers free local calling. You'll be billed for the others, but bring your cellphone if you wish to avoid these, along with an answering machine if you want one.
Suitability: SpruceLedge Cabin is only available for rent to people who are responsible and generally at least 25 years of age. Though the cabin can technically accommodate up to 6 occupants, it is best suited for a couple looking for a private retreat and for anyone who is able to walk up and down a secure, well built, woodsy, nighttime-illuminated, 74-step pedestrian riverbank stairway/ramp system (see photos), or an adjacent gravel trail of about 150-feet in length varying from 0-20% in slope (approximate). Therefore, though having a spectacular view, private access to the water and modern amenities, the property may not be suitable for anyone needing close supervision or who is physically infirm; so please ask about your own circumstances.
Picture this--- you're sitting on the deck surrounded by the quiet woods, or you're down on the dock catching a fish for dinner--- and you're watching the sun set in a spectacular sky over the far shore. Or, on a beautiful morning with the sun just peeping over the ridge behind you--- with a hot cup of breakfast coffee in hand--- you're on the deck, high above the river, watching the local lobstermen haul, harvest and re-set their numerous multi-colored pots, the wide variety of other boating activity on the river, and the abundant wildlife. Great blue heron, ducks, ospreys, if you're lucky even a resident pair of bald eagles pass by your gaze--- or perhaps you've gone down to the river to arrange for lobster drop-offs from one of the local fishermen, just in time for a classic Maine dinner--- ' finest kind '' !! For a real Maine Coast vacation, what can be better than that? Please inquire about your own reservation now !

Wow! is the best word to describe this place. This is no ordinary cabin in the woods. It is a high end luxury retreat. The attention to detail is very impressive. Myself my wife and 8 year old son had the best time ever here. This place has it all...amazing water and nature views with fishing boats and sail boats coasting by as well as the occasional eagle soaring high above the trees. The place is very private yet close enough for a short drive to town for activities or provisions. Freeport outlet shopping is a 25 minute drive and beautiful Popham beach is nearby. We stayed one week and wished we could have stayed longer. My son made us promise we would come back one day. We strongly recommend this place Marc Montreal, Quebec, CanadaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Just a quick message to let you know that we really enjoyed our week at your cottage. It was so relaxing and quiet. Everything was perfect and i'm still amazed by the attention to detail that was put in the building of this retreat. This is really not your average rental cabin you feel like you're at a high end resort with the privacy added. Again thank you for allowing us to share this special place and for the obvious care you put in keeping it that way. Eric Lecapitaine Bromont, QC, CanadaDid you find this review helpful? We spent a delightful week with some great and some not so great weather and the cabin was an ideal home base--very well furnished (didn't even need to bring my garlic press!) and well designed to fit into it's natural environment. Great place for people who like nature and who don't mind the trip up and down 74 well-constructed and well lit (at night) stairs. The property is very clean & well maintained and everything was in its place. It's apparent that a lot of thought went into the design, as even though the cabin isn't large the space is really well utilized. The owner was very welcoming and was most anxious to answer any questions we had and to give us suggestions on best way to pack (to navigate the stairs with all of our gear upon arrival and departure) and places to see, dine, etc. The kitchen is so well equipped that we cooked and ate most of our meals there in front of the two west-facing windows, enjoying the view of the river, the lobster boats hauling traps, osprey and eagles flying past, the beautiful sunsets (and some wispy fog). We also enjoyed the deck since the mosquitoes weren't too bad despite it being pretty mild for mid-September. Location is convenient to explore eastern Casco Bay, mid-coast Maine. Though we didn't have any watercraft with us, it's an ideal spot for boaters or kayakers. The river is more like a long bay, as it is salt water and there are lots of lobster pots. There are some nice nature preserves nearby for walking/hiking and it's less than an hour away from the Boothbay area where the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to spend a day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to others.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My wife and I just spent a dream week at SpruceLedge Cabin. It was one of the most memorable vacations we've had. The pictures certainly do not do any justice. If you are looking for a very private, quiet, and exceptionally picturesque spot, then this is the place. The home is immaculate. I highly recommend a dock side lobster delivery, where we received a dozen for the week, placed in a crate, suspended by rope into the river. We will certainly return! The owners are very nice and accommodating as well.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We really enjoyed the property! Renting "Sprucelodge" for approximately 2 months was a wonderful opportunity for my friends and I. Most of us, having never been to Maine were shown instant warmth by the owners who are helpful but not overly so. We were able to fit 3 adults comfortably in the lodge. Perhaps the best part of the lodge was the attic loft which is a bit of nastalgia. The property is well maintained by the owners. It is everything picture perfect that we could have imagined and the owners were a pleasure to deal with in the whole process and this was our first time dealing with Homeaway. Although it rained most of the summer, this is a perfect getaway to enjoy the ambiance and wake up to locals picking up lobster traps in the early morning. We would definitely visit again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

What a wonderful surprise out in the woods! The view is incredible! This cabin has all the modern conveniences and is laid out very well. It was super clean and very well-maintained. It provided the peace and quiet that we were looking for. Great location near Route 1 and close to everything we needed. We really like to visit the Portland area but wanted a location that was away from the hustle and bustle. This location was perfect.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Just what we needed: peace & privacy, yet close enough to Route 1 to get around to do day trips. Rented kayaks in Bath & paddled down to the cottage in 3 hours w/ a stop for lunch on the "little island" without getting lost:) Great area for exploring the coast both by water and on foot with many trails in the area. We had fun getting lobster delivered to the dock and using the cooker for a wonderful meal on the deck! best lobster we ever had, w/ best view at the best price! Everything was in perfect condition & laid out well, so it was easy to settle in quickly & have a great & relaxing week. THANKS! hope we can go backRecommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Everything was PERFECT--- the cabin, the view of the water, and the pine tree smells! Every day a hummingbird buzzed over our heads while we were sitting on the deck. We are sad to leave this wonderful spot. Thanks!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
