This intimate and serene ocean view 1925 cottage is situated in a rustic garden setting just 2 blocks from the beach and walking distance to the Carmel Village. "Bird's Nest" is "unplugged" to provide you with the opportunity to get away from it all and completely let go of the stresses of daily life, but still have full internet access, television with dvd player and a cd player.
A stone walkway leads to the sunny upstairs studio which has a private entrance. Charming board and batten walls, seagrass and Carmel stone floors create a cozy atmosphere to nestle into.The studio features a kitchenette complete with small 4 burner gas stove, microwave, cooking utensils, dishware and glassware for those meals you prefer to eat in. There is a small bathroom with a small shower off of the kitchen. A luxurious queen size bed with featherbed, down pillows, down comforter and fine cotton bed linens. Nestled into a stone nook is a desk area to read, write or work on your computer, plus a sitting area to relax in the sunshine, listen to the sound of the surf or the chattering of birds... all with views of gardens and the ocean at Carmel Beach.
The world moves a little more slowly in this charming, romantic studio hideaway... you won't want to leave.

Sad. This is a great location. We arrived to a broken furnace. No attempt to repair was made during our week long stay. We were given an old space heater. Two towels were provided for the week--we took them to a laundry. Bathroom smells to urine. Sisal carpet should not be installed in a bathroom or kitchen. No maid service all week. Not even trash removal. Confusion over check out times. Documentation in the rental conflicted with emails from the owner. Poor lighting at night on a muddy stone walkway. Bed and linens are old. This could be a great place to stay, but proper care and maintenace has not been performed. Would not recommend.
Owner response:I did leave an apology note explaining that the furnace suddenly had stopped working on the Friday of their arrival. I immediately called PGE and could not get anyone until Tuesday afternoon to tell me about fixing it which then required ordering a new furnace and another 3 days. I bought a new space heater with high ratings that worked tremendously. I always supply 4 fresh high quality towels and 100% cotton crisp ironed bed linens and nothing is old. The bed is 4 years old, there is no maid service and that is stated in my agreement, as is check out times and trash service dates. I'm very sad that these people felt this way, as I have nothing but great and complimentary comments from visitors, and many repeat bookings for over 5 years of rentals. If they had expressed their displeasure, I would have given it attention. AND, if things were so bad, if it were me, I would not have stayed even a night. They stayed the entire week without a word to me of unhappiness.
Recommended for:
Perfect location. Well equipped. Would love to rent again. Lots of wildlife nearby.

This place was great! Just what the two of us needed for a week-long second honeymoon. The studio was well stocked and the fresh fruit was very much appreciated. Owner was readily available by phone although we didn't need her but to ask for a late checkout which was happily granted. A short one block walk to the beach which was awesome. Considering the closeness of homes in Carmel, this place had privacy, a view of the ocean, and it was amazingly quiet. Would rent again in a heartbeat!
Recommended for:Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
