Relax in style! Take a break at our beautifully appointed Treehouse in East Texas.
Treehouse is located in a forested section of a 300 acre ranch. It is a cozy getaway with a queen bed, sitting area, full kitchen and bath with commanding views of the 8 acre lake below. Situated on the second floor of the owner's detached carriage house, Treehouse offers a private deck where guests can sit and take in spectacular views of the lake. It features windows, windows and more windows opening to the surrounding woods and hence, the tree house feel. Accommodations at Treehouse are first class and include luxury bedding with Egyptian cotton sheets. Satellite TV with DVD library and a DSL hook-up let you reconnect with the world outside if desired.
A picnic table and gas grill sit on a large dock out in the lake and make for a wonderful dining experience just a short walk from Treehouse. Guests can hike and picnic throughout the 300 acre ranch. Because the ranch sits between two vegetation zones, it is a great area for birdwatching. For those who enjoy fishing, the lake behind Treehouse is stocked with Florida bass, bream and catfish. Guests can also fish on a variety of fully stocked lakes/ponds throughout the property. Each has a dock and most have boats and/or canoes for getting out on the lake. Guests are provided with a trolling motor, battery and charger at no additional charge.
The owner will provide interested guests with a tour of the ranch where prize winning Shorthorn show cattle are raised. Miniature horses and tiny pygmy goats are also a great hit... especially if there are baby goats to pet.
Located within 15 minutes of Pittsburg, Gilmer and Winnsboro, guests can experience life in the country but also enjoy the amenities of a town. In the Summer, fresh peaches, blackberries and blue berries are sold at nearby orchards. Golfing, a winery and a variety of restaurants are within 15 minutes of the ranch. There is also a SPA in nearby Winnsboro for those who want to pamper themselves while visiting. For antique shoppers, there are many shops within 15 to 30 minutes of the ranch.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2000
Jim and Paula Archer own and operate Lone Star Cattle Company, a working 300 acre ranch in Northeast Texas. Jim is a recently retired Professor of Chemistry and Paula is a software sales leader for a major corporation. They moved to the ranch over 10 years ago. Jim remains active as a District Governor for Rotary International. He is also Chair of the local ambulance board. Paula raises Shorthorn show calves and breeding stock. She is on the Board of Directors for the Texas Shorthorn Association. Both enjoy sharing the relaxation and enjoyment of the ranch through the vacation rental program.
Why the Owner Chose Pittsburg
We love the beauty of the area and the wonderful community of small town friends and neighbors. We moved to East Texas more than 20 years ago. After living in town (Pittsburg TX) for 10 years we bought the ranch and fixed up Pine Grove Cottage for our weekend getaway. We loved staying there so much we sold our home in the city and moved to Pine Grove Cottage while we began plans for a new home on another corner of the property. During this time we needed more room for family and friends so we added Spring House on still another corner of the ranch. In 2005 our home was completed and we moved out of Pine Grove Cottage. We decided to offer both Pine Grove and Spring House on VRBO at that time so others could share in the beauty and fun of the ranch. We were so pleased with the wonderful guests that visited, we have added Treehouse and a Bed & Breakfast to allow larger groups to stay. We often host extended families looking for a retreat, wedding parties and multiple families who want to come together to visit. Now we can accommodate all but each property can have its own privacy. Our return rate is very high so many of our guests have come to view the ranch as their own special place in the country...without all the hard work!

The Tree House was WONDERFUL! My husband Jerry and I stayed there the weekend of July 15-17. We had a wonderful time. It was our weekend getaway from the kiddos! Ms.Paula and Mr.Jim are the most nicest, and caring people. Ms.Paula took the time to look at my photos that I took of the ranch. She loved them! Jerry and I needed that time alone. I am from Tyler,Tx....born and raised. I now live in Ft.Worth,Tx(Benbrook). It was so very nice to return back to my "roots" again. We plan on bringing our kiddos up to stay in the new house. Ms.Paula gave us a tour of it, while it was being built. Oh....don't forget to get some fresh eggs, they are wonderful! Thanks so much Ms.Paula and Mr.Jim for a trip of a lifetime. See you in October, and at the Ft.Worth Stockshow!

We stayed at the Treehouse for our 16yr anniversary, and we were so plesantly supprised at what we saw when we drove up. It was absolutely beautiful, with a view of the lake through the tall pine trees. The ivy growing on the nearby trees and the huge elephant ears in the garden, it really set the mood. The pictures really did not capture the true feeling of peace and comfort you feel when you arrive. The stairway leading up to the door to the treehouse was lined with christmas lights, and that also was a nice touch, espically at night. The room was so clean and the decor was so much more elegant than the pics reveal. It really was like a cozy little house in the trees, the view of the garden on the side and the view of the lake and countryside was perfect. I am not what you would call a "country girl" but I really felt at home here and adventurous in a way. I even went out on the little boat with my husband and fished. He was very impressed, and I caught the two biggest fish of the stay. The privacy was also much more than we expected, with it being a guest ranch. It was like we were the only two people in the world. I would suggest the treehouse to anyone who wants to connect with eachother without the distractions of everyday life. But you aren't completely disconnected from the outside world, there is a dsl connection that was very helpful for us, because our cell phone service did not reach in that area, so we stayed in touch with our kids by email. We also got to pet baby goats, they were adorable. The kitchenette was perfect, I am a cook and there was really anything you would need right there. We did drive into Pittsburg, only a short 7 minute drive, to the grocery store to buy food and drinks. The tap water was great, so dont waste your time buying bottled water. This was probably the most affordable anniversary getaway we have had in 16 years and deffinately one of our most memorable. We plan to come back in the fall when the leaves are turning with our kids and stay in the pine grove cottage.

My husband and I recently stayed in the Treehouse over the Memorial Day Weekend. The Treehouse is absolutely perfect for a couple wanting to relax, do a little fishing, enjoy beautiful scenery, and sleep in one of the best bed's we have ever slept in! Paula and Jim have a fantastic ranch and are so wonderful to share it with the rest of us. Everything is provided (even goodies to munch on) and the nearby towns of Winnsboro, Pittsburgh, and Mt. Pleasant are close enough to enjoy day trips. We visited the Los Pinos Winery for a sampling of great wines and delicious food. (open Fri-Sun.)and Efurd's Orchard (open all year) for peaches and other delicacies. Brewbaker's in Winnsboro was a great suggestion by Paula and Jim for lunch, but there are other restaurants we would have loved to eaten at but did not have the time! The fishing was great....caught a 3 1/2 pound bass thanks to Paula! We want to come back in the spring and fall to enjoy this great find again. You will NOT be disappointed at this terrific place!

I took my hubby here for a "surprise" get away... and boy was he surprised! HE LOVED the fishing of course. I loved that I could still be with him and "enjoy" his fishing all while sitting on the pier with him reading my book! The Tree house was PERFECT! VERY CLEAN and very COMFORTABLE! Jim and Paula were wonderful host. We are planning on coming back to stay in the cottage with our two children. Thanks for a wonderful, relaxing time!!! Kellie B.

My husband and I decided last minute to get away for the weekend. While searching tons of options, we chose the Treehouse! Our expectations were more than exceeded! The room was perfect for the two of us and we loved the inviting decor! There were (amazing) biscuits provided to us in the freezer and we had everything we could have wanted! The area itself is beautiful and relaxing. My husband and I fished for awhile- and he used the boat. The cool front made for a wonderful evening and we were able to play Farkle on the deck while listening to Sinatra's Greatest Hits and sleep with windows open (something we never do at home!) (The bed is super comfy too!) We also enjoyed all the animals on the ranch, what adorable goats, chickens, and the miniature horse! I'm recommending this reasonably priced, piece of Heaven to everyone I know... and plan to come back soon and often! Thanks to Jim and Paula for their hospitality, we really enjoyed out weekend!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in the Treehouse in December 2009. We needed a quiet getaway for the two of us. It was so wonderful. The room is very clean and comfortable and the view of the private lake is breath taking. The surrounding woods are so quiet and peaceful. It was just what we needed!! We will definatly be returning soon and we have already told all of our friends about this gem. We are also looking forward to bringing the kids out to stay at the guest house soon! You must stay here!!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in the Treehouse in October...We have visited many lovely spots in Texas but this beat them all...It was more beautiful than the pictures, serene, quiet and restful... The treehouse was just that...A Tree House...each window held a glimpse of the trees...And nothing like a comfy bed at the end of the day..Jim & Paula were both so helpful and lovely to work with...My hubby had a GREAT time fishing and I had a GREAT time trying to keep up but mostly drinking in each and every view of the beautiful surroundings...We can't wait to come back.....And hopefully it will be soon..........Thanks to both of you, Jim & Paula

We had a beautiful weekend! It was so peacefull! This is a picture perfect cottage and what a fun and educational safari type tour! We want to take the tour again in the fall! We fished from dawn til dusk, then cooked out on the dock! We then walked to the cottage and had a lovely dinner. What an amazing weekend we had. We can't wait to go back. The owners were so sweet and offered us so much more than we could have hoped for. The ranch hand was so nice and went out of his way to make sure we could clean our own fish. What a true luxurious weekend. We are going back in the fall, I bet the trails will be spectacular then. Kathy & Ronnie Overton, Texas
